RE: Top 10 Rap/Hip-Hop albums according to OG
Heiro and Dead Prez top 10? Confused

On the topic of more modern joints, I'll share some stuff I'm bumping lately.

The prolific music maker with the lifestyle-rap-stream-of-conscious-vivid storytelling lyricism with an amazing ear for beats, Spitta Andretti himself:

"lyin' to them other guys but keepin' it sincere with me
at least that's what she wish that I'd believe"

"even though I knew shorty was bad news I played it cool
vowin' to never turn sucka like them other dudes
misreadin' signals, attachment issues
gettin' way too into the grip of them vagina lips
got homie searchin' for relationships

she's not tryna hear it, my typa bitch
she ran the story over grape juice and Ciroc sips
married to a doctor, cuddle master
don't fuck her just buys her, everything
tryna satisfy her
on the low she's fuckin' his partnas
felt a void inside her 'cause she wasn't fuckin' with a rider"

Kendrick Lamar's "Good Kid, m.A.A.D City, released in late October, has been lauded as a "classic" by many. Time will tell but dude is definitely one of the more talented and creative new artists in the game today:

The 17 year old phenom! Joey Bada$$ did his part to put his Pro Era crew on the map with two 2012 mixtapes that displayed a soulful style and clever lyricism beyond his years:

His 2nd verse (3rd verse total) is insane!

At 36 years old, Jay Electronica has yet to release even an official mixtape (yet several official track releases and over 50+ songs total collected on various unofficial tapes). Yet Hip Hop heavyweights from Nas, Jay-Z, Diddy, etc. have sung his praises and he drew offers from numerous major labels before signing with Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Did I mention the conspiracy theorizing rapper caused Kate Rothschild and Ben Goldsmith's divorce after his affair with the former was revealed? Who is this guy?

2012 Mixtapes I would recommend:

1. Curren$y - Cigarette Boats / Priest Andretti

2. Big KRIT - 4Eva N A Day

3. Joey Bada$$ - 1999 / Rejex

4. Freddie Gibbs - Baby Face Killa

5. Fabolous - The Soul Tape 2

6. Action Bronson (prod. The Alchemist) - Rare Chandeliers

Have you listened to Hiero's last group album "Full Circle" that shit knocks all the way through. It may not be considered as classic by underground hip hop heads, but I don't give a fuck, the list I came up with is my top 10, I'd imagine most people would disagree. Also, I don't think Dead Prez is that great overall, but "Lets Get Free" is a sick ass album, better than a lot of other albums most people would consider more classic, like BIG "Ready to Die", again Lets Get Free is good all the way through.

Any of their albums make this list?

Most heads consider the Blackstar album as one of the greatest of all time. A followup is rumored to be in the works and eagerly anticipated. Two of the bigger names in underground Hip Hop.

Blackstar (1998):

From Kweli's more recent album with Hi-Tek:

I actually like both groups, I'm just saying I wouldn't consider either album top 10 all-time material.

Binary Star - Waterworld/Masters of the Universe

Waterworld was produced on a 500$ budget, with all verses done in one take.

M.o.t.U. is the remixed and rearranged version of Waterworld. I prefer this remix album more than the original.

The group could only tour in Michigan due to probation, and didn't see much national distribution as a result.

Good albums. One Be Lo actually has some more recent solo stuff that's pretty good.

Hey Enigma, I've been playing some Curren$y lately too. I respect that he calls his music "lifestyle rap" - just shit from his day to day activities, namely smoking herb and swooping girls.

Right now I'm listening to Immortal Technique's mixtape "The Martyr" - I haven't listened to him in a while, and until today, hadn't heard much of his material beyond Revolutionary 1+2 and The 3rd World.

Immortal knocked it out of the park with "The Martyr," this shit goes hard as fuck at times.

Method Man's album "4:21 The Day After" is good, I recommend it.

Last night I listened to the two episodes of Joe Rogan's podcast on which Immortal Technique appears. If you've got a few hours to kill they're worth listening to.

I've been listening to his mixtape "Martyr" a lot these last few days. Last track speech is dope:

Blu - Below the Heavens. Chronically underrated album.
