I thought they were incompent at the airport. Now they can randomly search you in public? Granted this is NY Times so not sure how unbiased this source is.

Randomly search private citizens in public minding their own business? God help the bottom feeder that tries that on me.

RE: T.S.A is expanding its duties past the airport.
Some interesting points from the article.

"The program now has a $100 million annual budget and is growing rapidly, increasing to several hundred people and 37 teams last year, up from 10 teams in 2008. T.S.A. records show that the teams ran more than 8,800 unannounced checkpoints and search operations with local law enforcement outside of airports last year, including those at the Indianapolis 500 and the Democratic and Republican national political conventions."

"In April 2012, during a joint operation with the Houston police and the local transit police, people boarding and leaving city buses complained that T.S.A. officers were stopping them and searching their bags. (Local law enforcement denied that the bags were searched.)

The operation resulted in several arrests by the local transit police, mostly for passengers with warrants for prostitution and minor drug possession. Afterward, dozens of angry residents packed a public meeting with Houston transit officials to object to what they saw as an unnecessary intrusion by the T.S.A."

I wonder if you have a case to say this was an unwarranted search if they do find out you have drugs on you.

Next thing they'll do is broaden the definition of the word terrorist to include just about anyone. If you're not a white bread American in a suit and tie then watch out.

Democrats have found they get more done just by ignoring the constitution altogether. Come to find out all those god given rights we had were the problem. And since Democrats are atheists that nullifies anything god given anyway.

RE: T.S.A is expanding its duties past the airport.
A TSA agent almost always randomly searches my carry on bag when I fly up and visit my parents. Ive gone up there six times in the past two years and they pull me aside and open my bag up as I have been boarding the plane four or five times. Only happens when I'm leaving DFW though.

I don't think I look sketchy.

Anyways, back on topic, this is gay.

America is one of the few countries that terrorists will target.

I hate when they change the rule worldwide because some guy tried something bad in America.

Why do those people living in safe countries have to suffer?

Not just the democrats. PRISM was started in 2007. All the motherfuckers are dirty.

It might not be you, but your traveling patterns or shared name with a person of interest. There was a 2 year old that could not board a flight because a known terrorist had the same name.

From another article I read, people who refused to be searched could not ride the bus, train, and etc under the pretenses of, "using X is a privilege, not a right".

So 1 - Get searched 2 - Go back to your car/feet and be labeled a person of interest for refusing a search*.

* - Refusing a search might fall under "probable cause"...giving them a reason search you, depending on the cop.

You don't have to consent to a search! Just ask, "Am I being detained?" If the reply is no, then say, " I do not consent to a search and am going to leave now."

Walk away. These policies are meant to harass minorities.

Making unconstitutional laws like the patriot act and the NDAA is one of the few things that Democrats and Republicans agree on using the excuse "we needs these laws to keep people safe".

The TSA was actually formed in 2001, just 8 days after 9/11 in response to the terrorist attacks.

They did that a few years ago. If you complain about the government online in a peaceful manner, you're a terrorist. Aren't you happy that the general public bought into the media's narrative that Ron Paul was a kooky old man spinning tall tales of the government attacking our civil liberties?

They were using TSA agents for subway bag checks to free up NYC cops and save money.

The only reason I can think of NY Times criticizing this is that TSA was started up under Bush. However Obama had a chance to disband it. Seems it benefits him too. I can't remember what traveling was like without the TSA scarily enough.

I have been selected by them on the entrance to the subway. They don't really "search" per se. What they do is swap your bags with a piece of cloth and put it in machine that can detect trace explosives on your shit. The same scanner can also detect if you have been around drugs but they told me is disabled because it would go off every second in NYC.

I am guessing the scanner to the courts are no different than a police dog or a x ray machine. If the scanner alerts you are going to be detained and searched. You can resist if you want but they are going to do it anyways.

TSA is basically a giant job program especially designed(pay too low to attract Whites but higher than they would get working retail, fast food or staying at home) for hoodrats just like Police, correction and Fire departments are job programs for lower/middle class White guys who couldn't hack it in community college. imo, they are no ruder than your typical cop, at least I only have to deal with it at the airport. Anything that has hoodrats gainfully employed and on their feet. Therefore, too tired to fucked up their neighborhoods is good in my bookIdea. Also, they are paying taxes instead of being on the public tit.

Exactly, I do not know why this is news now. TSA has been doing bag checks on NYC subways, Metro North and Long Island Rail Road commuter stations for at least a couple of years now.

This is not surprising, once you create a new agency is almost impossible to kill it. That's the nature of bureaucracies, they are like cancer, it can only get bigger never smaller.

They are being given more jurisdiction to justify their existence. Sorta like how Giuliani made all NYC FDNY firemen EMT(Emergency Service Technician) because they weren't enough fires in the late 90's to justify their inflated head count. So now when you call 911 in NYC and request an ambulance a bunch of fire trucks respond and they just stand around watching paramedics do all the work. Sort like unionized construction crews, 5 guys stand around watching one guy doing all the work(usually the junior guy).

Also, there's more than meets the eye here. Federal Law says that Airports, Train stations and ports are required to be patrolled by their own sworn police officers which are generally very well paid. Those salaries are paid by whatever agency/authority who runs the facility. The long term plan is probably to make TSA a full blown law enforcement agency and replace all those cops with lower paid TSA "agents" and under one national unified command. The transportation facilities save money by outsourcing their security to the federal government and the feds get a new bloated bureaucracy to control.

This is what happens when you give near-minumum wage, low educated people authority. The abuse of power will run rampant.

Dunno if I should switch to the green party or side with Ron Swanson.

I think southpark nailed the invasion of privacy and sheer lunacy of the TSA. The problem is Americans put up with more shit out of fear of terrorism, just listen to the idiot in the clip below justify patting down a 6 year old

The agents in those NYT photos are armed. The only TSA officers that are armed are under the Federal Air Marshall program. Most of these guys come from special forces and I can tell you from personal experience that they have their shit together. They'll be the first ones to point out how fucked their agency is in all other areas.
