Quote:The conservation charity Save China's Tigers stated, "Recent research indicates that the tiger is indeed stronger than the lion in terms of physical strength. Lions hunt in prides, so it would be in a group and the tigers as a solitary creature so it would be on its own. A tiger is generally physically larger than a lion. Most Experts would favour a Siberian and Bengal tiger over an African lion."

I'm not too keen on speculation, even by "experts."

From an ex ante basis there are good reasons to favor the lion over the tiger in a fight, as well.

However, it does seem that tigers are indeed superior to lions in 1 on 1 combat:

Quote:In historical accounts where lions and tigers have fought in captivity, the tiger often came out the victor. The most recent account happened on March 2011, where a tiger at the Ankara Zoo attacked a lion through its enclosure and killed the lion with a single paw swipe.[16] "The tiger severed the lion's jugular vein in a single stroke with its paw, leaving the animal dying in a pool of blood", officials said. In 1857, a tiger at the Bromwich Zoo broke into the cage of a lion and a fearful scene ensued: the lion's mane saved his head and neck from being injured, but the tiger succeeded in ripping up his stomach, and within a few minutes he was dead.[17] At the Coney Island Zoo in 1909, a male tiger killed a male lion.[18]

Bengal Tiger without a doubt would kill a lion. They are bigger and quite more aggressive.

Killer whales are incredible. Planet earth showed tactics that their pods use to kill their prey. Any animal that plays with a sea lion before eating it has my respect.

A lion isn't even the most dangerous animal in Africa. Hippos have that crown.

Haha this thread sounds like something me and my buddies would argue about. I've actually hit on girls unintentionally by bringing them into a dumb "would a lion beat a tiger in a fight" style argument at the bar. My friends and I are very competitive in meaningless shit.
