My Suggestions For America (and any other developed nation)
*Fewer people need to go to expensive universities and colleges. This is a huge waste of young adult productivity (18-23).

After high school, young people would be invited spend four years working for the government instead of going to traditional post-secondary.

During their four years of labour, they would work 30 hrs per week and get free classes for 10 hrs for week. After 4 years, they would have the equivalent of an associates degree with transfer credit if they really want to get a 4 yr degree.

During those 4 years, they would have the college experience in affordable dorm style housing, but they would mostly work, improving the nation. Food and shelter would be provided in addition to a stipend of spending money (enough for the sort of entertainment most college students can afford).

The study would be skill based. Foreign languages, trade skills, computer programming, accounting, etc.

This would not be mandatory, but simply a good option for young people who didn't wanna pay the $75,000 to get a four year degree, but wanted to learn skills and were having trouble getting a worthwhile non-dead end job right out of high school.

Similar to joining the military for a few years, but directed at nation building, rather than national defense.

*Incentivise marriage. Make it a clearly stupid move for women to put men through the divorce ringer. Two parent homes are more economically feasible than single parent homes.

*Intercity high speed train transportation.

Put high speed trains between places with lots of employment and places where people can afford to live.

*Outlaw the word 'creepy.'

*Outlaw political ads and political campaign spending. Instead, require politicians running for office to answer a questionaire on issues and have a single website the reports the answers. Have people make their decisions based on the real issues.

I know most of these ideas are never going to happen and some may sound completely stupid to some people, but they are a few ideas that have been floating around in my head and I'm interested in hearing some feedback as well as your ideas.

They could plan ahead and build "Cities of industry" with high speed trains connecting them to the suburbs or country.

There's plenty of cheap land left in the middle of the country.

Resistance to building infrastructure tells me 100% that Govt has been fully infiltrated and bought out. Because infrastructure used to be a cash cow for corruption and Govt and Industry would collude with each other but the public would still get solid roads, bridges, transit, and canals out of it. It was a win-win and and the economy grew off that for many many decades. The inability even to do classic old school swindle deals like that lets me know Govt in the West is running on fumes.

The high cost and high reward of large capital projects would put millions to work and provide the needed kick start out economies need to stay ahead. The reason places like France still chug along with relevancy is because they put substantial investments in capital an infrastructure which is still decades ahead of the crumbling crap we have here in North America.

High speed rail should be standard all over te Eastern USA, all along chocked and gridlocked I-95, it should be also standard in Canada between Toronto and Quebec City. The costs is minimal to the windfall of opening up avenues for trade and travel. The cars off the roads fees up trade routes, same with rail. The ports and canals are all shit also, only after a complete fuck ups like Katrina, Sandy, or a bridge falling into the water will Govt step up with funds, and then even it over spends on to much technology whih grossly inflates the price tag. If I was dictator for a day I'd force banks to buy bonds to find are roads an canals. Jobs would be there for any willing man to take on, women... Go do the paper work for these projects and get your cheques, and anybody unwilling to take the opportunities of work.. See ya later.

I had an idea like that for Canada. The Toronto housing market is so inflated and public transportation so bad that it would make super sense to build a suburb up in the cheap land 1.5 hrs normal drive north of Toronto. Then build a bullet train and you've got a 30 minute commute to the downtown, much faster than current Toronto commutes. Finance it by selling condos in the new suburb to rich people who wanna immigrate for 5x what housing would normally cost in that area.

If they buy and keep a condo for 10 years, they get citizenship. If they sell it or don't make payments, they lose their PR card.

You know there'd be takers.

A big part of a reason why real estate becomes expensive is because of policy & NIMBYs with the perverse incentive to block development so they can increase their property values. Low interest rates, restrictive development policies, retarded tax policies or cultures that give an incentive to leave houses unoccupied go hand in hand with overpriced real estate. You can also add special high property taxes for unused (for corporations) or non-resident (for direct person ownership) for properties to increase property supply.
