Losing libido - what is the cause?
Depression? Age (32)? Overweight? Disease?

Basically, since maybe 9 months I've had far less spontaneous boners than just a year or two ago. I don't have erectile dysfunction, but my boners are less hard unless I am actually fucking or doing something intimately sexual.

I used to get hard just having a girl with a nice ass or tits smile at me. These days, I do not have the same strong drive to get laid as I have had for all my adult life.

I had a bad period of about one year where I basically shut down after being overworked, grieving due to death in family and just dealing with too much shit. Didn't get laid for probably 8 monts where before I was on the regular. I'm also 10 kg overweight and recently balding.

Anyone tried something similar?

Get your testerone levels checked. Natural T production in men begins to decline after age 30. Your T level should be somewhere around 500-600 at your age. Blood tests are cheap and quick.

So lets say my test levels have decreased. If they're low, I have two choices: Deal with it and accept this is natures way of telling me to settle down or begin taking supplements which will make me temporarily sterile. None of those options seem cool.

Stop porn, hit the gym, remove yourself from stress. I had a monumentally stressful year about 2 years ago, had no sex drive for about 3 months and did about 5 years of balding at once. I had to take some time off of work, ate clean and hit the gym hard. After that, my sex drive was back to normal.

Are you taking any hair loss products? They can all have as a side effect loss of sex drive.

RE: Losing libido - what is the cause?
Stress/depression will do it. The excess weight doesn't help.

The idea that you have to either accept this as any sort of permanent reality or start using hormones or whatever is ridiculous. You're a young guy and can have all your libido back and more in no time.

1. Find out what your sources of stress are and to the extent possible, eliminate them. The ones you can't eliminate, accept and try not to worry about.

2. Lose the extra weight. You don't need a special diet -- all you need to do is cut your portions. Just eat less every meal.

3. If you're not lifting weights, start lifting weights. If you are, figure out how to do it harder.

4. If you're abusing either alcohol, or caffeine, or other drugs, stop doing that.

5. Consider getting a light box to regularize your sleep and counter any depression. Are you in Denmark? It might be a good idea to do this now as the fall and winter really kick in and days get short. I posted about this in other places. It's a great tool.

Do these things and you'll be as hard as you were at 18.

RE: Losing libido - what is the cause?
Do a six week stint of lifting and ketosis. Keep the protein (very) high and the fat moderate to high.

The numbers at the gym don't matter, just training regularly does. Go with some boring routine like Starting Strength (though with more upper body emphasis!).
For example, do SS, and add two days per week of 5-10 sets of incline press or many sets of (weighted) dips.

Ketosis will slow you down a bit in terms of lifting (lower numbers) but that doesn't matter either. If you don't currently train expect some very quick gains.

Just being fat will depress your testosterone significantly - get down to 8-10% bodyfat after six weeks of blubber burning mode and see how frequently you get random erections. You should feel like a teenager again.

Word of caution, once you get down to that bodyfat, you will 'rebound' a bit once you reintroduce carbs. For instance, you'll lose 15 pounds of fat and put 5 pounds back on. That is OK and to be expected.
Just cycle your diet one or two more times to get damned good and lean. The body has a "memory" of sorts and will try to get you back to your old level of fatassedness.

My honest recommendation though is to stick with some kind of atkins diet for life, and on Fridays and Saturdays, do cheat meals with a little bread, soda, and donuts to stay sane.

RE: Losing libido - what is the cause?
I haven't been able to work out in a few months now because I recently had back surgery and my doc has not cleared me for lifting. Will probably still be a few months at least untill I can return to the gym. I've lost a ton of muscle mass and now look mushy. I've felt my libido drop through the floor. I know working out makes a difference. Can't wait till I can get back to the iron.

I get the same thing recently. I'm wondering if it's falling testosterone or other factors such as lack of sleep, alcohol etc. I'm 28 by the way and I lift 3 times a week.

These days I can be grinding a hot girl with the whole club seemingly watching and I don't even get a boner. Maybe a twinge down there but no boner at all.

Sex is fine but it takes more to turn me on than when I was younger. I rarely have a boner until the girl is naked in front of me and even then I sometimes need them to blow me. Is this weird or just a part of getting older?

In a way I don't even mind the lack of spontaneous boners because it helps me stay aloof but it has got me worrying a little bit.

PM me for accommodation options in Bangkok.

Get these asap: http://www.amazon.com/Solgar-Korean-Gins...B00014HOC2

They work. No bullshit. Ginseng was given the nickname 'manherb' many years ago and for good reason.

Also try edging without porn. Basically you masterbate 30 minutes a day without ejaculation. It helps as far as penis health and hardness goes. Also visualize sex with hot girls more. The mind is a powerful thing, it can make or break you.

Get your testosterone levels checked. Get some good free range eggs and some raw goats milk and consume those on the daily.

On top of lifting (gaining muscle and reducing b/f %), eating clean, getting good rest/sleep, jerking off less - take some supps like Zinc, ACV, Maca, ZMA etc.

The combination of lifestyle change and known libido increasing supps should get you some desired results.

I'm in the same boat. I think part of it is definitely age. Morning wood stops coming as frequently and just seeing a nude woman doesn't give me an erection. I actually have to kiss or touch her. When I was 18 and went to a strip club for the first time my boner was so hard it literally hurt. If I went into a strip club now I wouldn't even get an erection.

I would say my libido has fallen of a bit of a cliff. I'm not sure if this is cause or effect but my sleep hasn't been great lately. Lifting weights and zinc does nothing. If I wanted to jerk off it would take a major effort on my part to even get in the mood. Sometimes I feel slightly aroused in the mornings before waking up but thats about it.

I think that there are many men who experience this around this time of year as a consequence of fall/winter blues. There is a sharp decline in natural sunlight which throws off your normal sleeping cues, and also typically results in lower production of endogenous D-3.

Try doing the following:

1. Strongly consider using bright light therapy to improve and regularize your sleep at this time of year. It is extremely effective and very safe, and you will be surprised at how much your sleep quality improves if you do this correctly and consistently. The libido will follow.

2. Up your vitamin D-3 supplementation. These are both good brands which have undergone extensive quality control:

http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Vit...blets/1216

http://www.iherb.com/Thorne-Research-D-1...Caps/18445

3. Is there an unusual amount of stress and anxiety in your life? Think about that, and to the extent possible, eliminate the sources. If you can't eliminate them in the short term, work to eliminate them in the long term. Nothing will degrade your libido like sustained stress over a long period of time.

With all that, also realize that libido is cyclical in many if not most men and undergoes natural ups and downs. It will come roaring back when the conditions are right. But doing the above is a very good idea in any case.

RE: Losing libido - what is the cause?
Out of curiosity, how many of you guys are big coffee drinkers?
The reason I ask is because I recently cut out almost all of my caffeine consumption, and the first thing I noticed was that my spontaneous throughout the day boners became more frequent. Naturally, I googled to see if there was any connection between the 2 and I found this little snippet which makes sense to me,

"Consuming too much caffeine on a regular basis leads to chronic over-stimulation of the adrenal glands, flooding the body and brain with hormones normally produced in times of stress. These hormones are known to negatively impact libido and sexual performance."

Quitting coffee isn't easy, those withdrawal headaches are some of the worse I've experienced. However, it may be worth a shot.

I've worked out consistently for 16 years. I'm living proof that working out doesn't do jackshit for testosterone. My levels are horrible. They're definitely lower than they were when I started working out.

Plenty of factors. Try keeping up your zinc, vitamin d3, selenium, good fats, proper sleep, proper lifting regime, cardio.

Sugar lowers testosterone, as does watching porn.

In my case it was carbs. I eat low carb on rest days, but there is a threshold. If I eat less than 60g of carbs, my libido goes to zero, no morning wood, I have trouble concentrating and I start to feel cold.

If you go keto, go keto. Drop to sub 20gr and wait the flu out (concentration, libido and wood will come back after the flu is over). Or eat full carb diet.

Porn?

Myself and engineering buddies attest that continuous stress over the period of months/years can definitely cause it.

Some prescription drugs have as a side-effect a negative effect on the libido. So if you are taking any prescription drugs I suggest some Google searches to check this possibility out.

I'm surprised no one corrected you on this.

Proper hormone replacement therapy doesn't make you sterile. There's a long thread on this in the lifestyle forum. Talk to your doctor and get your levels checked. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose with propet HRT therapy.

Shalom Alechem!
