some may not be "pros" in the truest sense, but there will be some gold diggers or other "pros" who will GF you up and expect you to take them out/buy them stuff etc.

I guess it can depend on the night you go as well, any given day it can change.

What do you guys usually drink in Bkk?

My home bar is down to a couple mostly empty bottles and I haven't bothered to replenish it since foreign alcohol is so overpriced here. Any Thai spirits enjoyable instead of just endurable?

Maybe I should just stop being a pussy and grab a couple bottles of lao khao.

I've considered the cheap Thai whisky when I've been broke too. I usually drink Johnnie Walker Red at home or Black/Chivas Regal if I go to a tax free zone such as between Laos and Thailand. Best value for money imo, the 0.7l Red is 700THB. I know what you mean about spirits though, the cheapest red wine is stuff like Mont Claire at 300THB which you could get a quite good bottle of italian or french red back home. Over here, any bottle worth drinking is 600+THB.

I'm thinking I'll just grab a couple of bottles at the duty free when I get off my plane and have enough to pre-party for the 3 days I'll be there

Vodka and Bacardi. If you bring a decent girl back to your spot, she isn't going to want to drink Sang Som or Hong Thong.

Quite liked the place in terms of mix of people, despite the somewhat douchefactor and expensive drinks. Seemed like most girls there were not pros or if they were, then they hid it well. Only issue is the way overpriced drinks, but I figure you can actually just take the elevator down and knock down a quick double whisky coke in the street bars if you're low on cash, then head on back up.

Levels is actually not bad. Checked it out quickly when I was there... since there actually is a dance floor. Hated the tables set up in BKK. Still infested with pros (i'd say over 50%). The whole area around Asok is infested with pros during the night.

Avoid avoid avoid Nana / Asok. Stay in Thong Lor if you want non pros. But prepare to work for it.

Personally, I like rich girls who I know aren't fucking me for money. And do a little bit of rawdogging. Banana

RE: Bangkok Datasheet 2014.
I investigated and managed to find a premium Thai rum made in Nakhon Pathom called Phraya. It's supposed to be pretty legit, has won several awards, etc. But It's about 1500 baht a bottle, so not super cheap like Sangsom and the like. Still seems to be a decent deal though considering it's supposedly among the best rums out there. Gonna try and find a bottle.

Also, anyone know where I can find some Mehkong? I've heard about it a lot but never actually seen it for sale. Anyone tried it? How's it taste?

I just finished off my last bottles of Bombay Sapphire(hate this shit, BeefEater is better) and Smirnoff, so sorry if I'm rambling a bit.

By the way, I'm probably gonna hit up Snop tomorrow if anyone wants to meet up. They're giving away free bottles of 100 Pipers.

I've had Phraya, it's pretty good, dark golden rum. The bottle is a little over the top with faux-gold, it is a Thai product after all. I don't know why you just don't buy a couple of good whiskies tax free if that is what you want for yourself, which it seems. I must admit, I find the idea of doubling down on Hong Thong rice whisky too much of an admission of being a poor drunk, so I'd rather stop drinking if I get to that point.

no love for yadong?

50baht Thai moonshine for about 330ml. It is mean to be an aphrodisiac. Tastes pretty bad but after 2-3 shots it tastes not so bad.

10/baht shot otherwise, they will love you if you buy some. But dont tell thais your friends with you drink it, a huge "no no" lol.

They are hard to find unless you live kind deep in a thai area
[Image: moonshine.jpg]

only mosti drivers drink it because its so cheap

Sang Som has won a bunch of awards too, but it still tastes like fermented rat piss.

Some Japanese friends and I used to drink Mekhong back in 2005 / 2006 when we were backpacking, because it was a bit cheaper than sangsom. Nasty stuff, awful sleepless hangovers. I've never drank it since.

If I'm in BKK and I don't want to spend, then I just drink Regency brandy or Leo beer. If I'm out then usually some kind of half decent vodka as I get the best hangovers from vodka soda.

Can anybody recommend a good hair stylist in Bangkok? Specifically a straight, stylish male. I don't trust women to cut my hair.

I went to a very good place near thong lo BTS. Its right next to "tulip massage" next to soi 38. I dont know if they have a guys working there as it was about 6months ago, but that place is very good. No harm in walking past and taking a look.

Uber has been launched in Bangkok!
http://blog.uber.com/bkksecretubers_EN

I use Uber in Manila all the time. All you guys in BKK need to take advantage of this.

https://www.uber.com/cities/bangkok
Looks like the area covered is limited right now as they are in the start up phase. If it is like Manila they will still come and pick you up and take you anywhere in the Metro. You will just have a longer wait for a pick up.

Why would I need a taxi service in Bangkok when there are about 50.000 taxis already and more than that motorcycle riders?

Just signed up, looks good. On nut - Siam should be around 200฿ according to the app so it's cheap. And first ride free so will defensively try it. In the right situation it might create magic for just 200฿.
There is a referral system too pm me for my link. Wink

What's the difference exactly between Uber and taking a taxi? On their site they say 1000 baht from the airport to main business area in Bangkok, that would never be more than 300-400 thb in a normal cab. What's the deal? Almost everywhere in Bangkok I can just hold out my hand for 2 minutes and I have a taxi.

@berserk
You can read how I use it all the time in Manila. I am sure it can be used the same in Bangkok.

Sorry guys, I don't see the point in Bangkok. In Manila yes, in Bangkok, no. It's just overpaying, taxis in Bangkok are fine, cheap, plenty and easy to find.

Make sure you show them a photo on your phone! Can't stress this enough!

Even if you specify what you want it'll end up too Asian

My co-worker in Taiwan once came in with a grade zero on the sides of his damn head. He wore a cap to work for a month!

I got given a bowl cut by some Korean woman once. Went for a second haircut to sort it out.

I need to find a good place to get an undercut done properly. Last time I asked for one they put the partings too low down on my head. I'm worried the next one will give me a mowhawk #HipsterProblems
