I have lost all interest in movies and TV. I don't think I will ever watch a film again. That decision is easier to make since there has been a drop off in quality over the past decade. Even The Coen Brothers are not making films as good as 'The Big Lebowski' or 'The Man Who Wasn't There'.

But that isn;t the driving factor behind my feelings towards film. I just cannot be bothered sitting through one. I get antsy having to sit in one place. I would much rather surf the net or read a book. The great thing about a book is you can put it down after 20 mins and pick it up again. Whereas with films you are stuck there for two hours.

Anyway - just curious if anybody else has come across somebody who started to develop a dislike for films in general? I can't believe I am the only one.

It always seems like the more I read the easier I get bored while watching anything on the TV. Even stuff that is entertaining and I enjoy I can feel my mind start to wander off after 10-15 minutes.

I had a girlfriend who would want to watch a Netflix movie every night and it was from her that I learned how boring girls generally are, even hot ones. I couldn't ever fall back into that kind of routine again, it drove me insane. But if I'm in the right mood, which is usually determined by how productive I've been lately, then I can relax and smoke a joint and enjoy watching a good movie, especially in a nice movie theater. But only occasionally.

It is amazing how many couple's lives revolve around films and working through the latest TV box-set.

And I pin most of the blame on the women.

My first job was at Blockbusters and I used to enjoy watching the bored couples come in every Friday and Saturday night looking for 2 hours of entertainment to distract themselves from their self-created misery.

Nowadays - they just get that shit delivered in the post.

I refuse to have a TV in my house. Which I guess means I will be alone forever. Cool! I'm MGTOW for life, baby!

A hot musician friend I've worked with in the past was complaining about how her songwriting had tapered off recently and was asking all 'you talented bois with guitars' to write her some 'sick trax' she could sing her lyrics over.

2 hours later, she was bragging about her 5 season box set of 'Alias' she just bought.

I said: "That's hours of life experience that could go into your songs that you'll just burn up. Get out there and live, and the songs will come back."

Her: "OMG, you're *so* right."

Today:

Her: "I binge-watched seven episodes last night!"

A few hours later: "[Dweeb A] and [Fuckwit B] have great songs for me! You're such good friends. Love u bois XXOO"

At least she's got her tits going for her, for now.

I just can't stand those Hollywood movies anymore. It is always the same story and as soon as you start to watch the movie you already know the end and every time they say it is "based on a true story" to make it sound more interesting. That's so painful. There are however a few good independent movies.

Bosch - that's funny.

In the past I've been a sucker for girls with nice tits and a box set of whatever bullshit show we would watch while she would lay around in her underwear in the evenings and weekends worn out from her tough office job. Ordering take out food and watching an entire season of a TV show in a weekend with whatever dude is currently wowed by her semi-naked presence, that's how a surprisingly high number of girls spend their time. Now I value my time too much for that. As others have said in this thread it's better to either be out in the world doing something or at home reading a book or working on something. A relaxed evening every few days is fine, but that's it. There are many awesome things to try to do before dying instead of wasting time on the 95% of movies that suck and the 99% of TV that sucks.

RE: Anyone else hate films?
I love film. I love cinematography, music, set design, editing. A director is truly a man's job, there is so much management and vision you need. You have to oversee every little detail. Its one of the few artsy professions that is 99% male because you really need a vision to tie it all together.

Having said that, the problem with film is that they are all written and produced by rich liberals of the 90210 area code. You have a tiny fraction of the population dictating to the nation how they perceive life.

For the last few years I've been mostly going through film from 1950-2000. There's some real good shit but unfortunately I'm at the point where I've dug through all there is to offer. I see myself transitioning purely to books in the next year.

If anyone wants to know what some good films from 2013 are; The Hunt, Gravity, Wolf of Wall Street, Prisoners and Like Father, Like Son.

The feature film is just not the medium for this era. People these days like to multi task and divide up their time into small chunks. 22 minute sitcoms, videogames and even books are better adapted to that than feature films.

I was a huge fan of films in the past. And have watched most of the 'classic' films that people praise.

So - I am certainly aware of what cinema has to offer.

But these days - as Andy_B mentions above - it just doesn't feel like fun having to sit down for 2-2.5 hours. I'd much rather pick up a book and read a few pages.

If Tarantino, Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, Coppola and Scorsese were still making kick-ass films. Then I might still take a small interest. But as it is - I don't see myself ever watching a film again.

Most girls are homebodies, and 'sloth' is their default state. One of the bigger lies girls always say is claiming they want a guy who is 'spontaneous'.

They purely mean in a way that favours them whilst requiring them to exert no effort whatsoever: gifts, displays of affection, taking them out to dinner.

If they settle in with one of their box sets and your phone buzzes with something urgent and / or more interesting, odds are, she's not moving. The longer you're with a girl the less interest they'll show in spontaneous sex.

They'd rather invest their emotions in watching fake relationships than the one they actually have. I don't understand it.

I just watched "The Wolf of Wall Street." Meandering story. Uninteresting characters. Pointless movie.

I would have been better off spending that time doing push ups and studying Russian vocabulary flashcards.

Interesting thread - something about this year, I've been having a harder time watching TV. I used to be a real tv junkie, and still am to an extent... But it just seems so... repetitive and frustrating. You see shows that have great potential, and instead of being good it's like watching an aborted stillborn baby still being alive somehow as some kind of horrific frankenstein monstrosity.

I've been wondering about trying to quit TV - but somehow I end up rebelling against myself. What I have been doing is just slowly tapering off. Focusing on shows that I genuinely like and following some others out of habit. I've actually just started skipping alot - most of the time not much happens anyway.

Not films, but the new hbo series True Detective is pretty awesome, and House of Cards is back next week. Real life can get mundane. One doesn't always have the energy to be running the gauntlet full time. Take film and television for the unwinding escapes that they can be. Doesn't all have to be bad.

The Wolf of Wall Street was just Scorsese giving Jordan Belfort a blowjob in the form of a film. That story could have, and should have been told well. If I hadn't been with someone, I would have walked out in the middle. It was 3 hours I won't get back. Its only redeeming quality was Margot Robbie.

RE: Anyone else hate films?
I hate most films that I watch, which is usually with friends. As far I can tell, the point of going to a movie theater is to watch a new film on a large screen with friends so that you and your little group can have something to bullshit about for twenty minutes that isn't sports, the news, lifting, chicks, or anything having to do with work. I did get to see The Dark Knight, Inception, and the Hobbit in theater and I thought they were all pretty good.

If I ever decide to see a modern comedy, I'll watch it in a theater. Modern comedy is only ever good for one viewing. After that, it's boring and canned. Not sure why that is, either. I've watched Blazing Saddles and Mrs. Doubtfire countless times because that shit is hilarious.

I've got a real thing for Michael Mann films. 'Heat' is a homage to Alpha in my book.

The soundtracks in his films are awesome, cinematography top-notch and his characters always kick gratuitous amounts of ass.

But yeah, I can't stomach most TV or films to be honest. I'd rather read a good book.

Loved films in high school but as I started reading more I find that passively sitting in front of a screen makes me feel like a prisoner. I'd rather just listen to film soundtracks, if anything. Film really is the best form of propaganda, and with all the crap Hollywood's churning out these days, I'm not buying.

If the weather really sucks and I have nothing to read, I'd consider a Godfather or Connery-era Bond marathon.

Also noticing a lot of girls these days getting super lazy by going straight for the movie and only reading the 1st 20 pages of the book.

The I'm too cool for school meeting has commenced, please proceed to tell us how every modern movie sucks, you like obscure foreign flicks that the directors families can't even get copies of and how you don't even own a tv... I didn't take a lot away from film school, I learned the old fashioned way of getting out there and film making but the one thing I did learn there is, that there is always going to be a subset that is going to complain about everything that comes out because liking anything means having to stand behind an opinion and it's easier to be a pretentious dick than stand behind an opinion. Few people talk about all the movies they love, but they'll tear down what others liked all day, it's sport for them... Can't please everybody but our industry will survive despite your 20 bucks not going into the coffers...yup little bitter but this is a personal pet peeve.

And that's another thing I hate - 20 bucks for a shitty movie, and about another 15 for a frozen coke and a medium popcorn. Best believe I'm going to "rob studios and artists of their rightful income" by downloading it instead.

That I cant defend. Prices are outrageous and the concession is obscene but as long as they keep putting asses in seats thats not gonna change unfortunately.

Truth is that once you get into all of this manosphere stuff, the hollywood stuff start to have very little for a real man to relate to, and their are very few if any redpill Indie filmmakers that I can think of who are active right now.

Most of them are probably scripted and created by betas.

For more alpha movies you have to go back in time I believe.

100% right; and going back in time really shows the decline we see today.

I respect the determination and creativity that goes into making films. My knowledge only scratches the surface, if that (William Goldman's Adventures in the Screen Trade was an enjoyable read), and I still probably have no idea what some of these producers, directors etc. go through to get a movie into theaters.

In the end I prefer books to films. So, anytime I'm watching a movie with other people I get antsy like I should be doing something else.

Different strokes, as they say.

RE: Anyone else hate films?
I have bigger problem with the sheer amount of mediocre remakes, progressive propaganda that seem to consistently flop, and changes in movie theaters. There is no reason the price of the movie should be close to the cost of a DVD or movie download. Also 20 minutes of commercials for tv shows and games are annoying. They rarely change the commercials so if you end up going every week you see the same commercials each time. After that you get the same trailers with the same voice talking about the same movie you probably have seen before. Once you finally get the movie you are constantly blinded by smart phones users texting in the movie, or some little brat kicking your seat. I have been in theatres where it was rated R and there is a bunch of babies crying in the theatre. Don't they have childcare and grandparents to help out with that? My father was threatened by this prick who kept texting during the movie. He went right up to my fathers face and was started to yell and threatened to attack him. The problem was he was a minority so if I beat him up, I would be charged with a hate crime and assault charge.

Another problem is if you watch a pg13 movie like a comic book movie it will often be flooded by 12-15 year olds. The most obnoxious age group. They talk loud, never stop talking, and constantly are moving around. Very solipsistic as well.
