RE: Ayahuasca and the body
Interesting thread, it's great to hear a range of experience's with Ayahausca.

I'm not sure i will ever choose to experience it as i don't handle nausea very well, Psilocybin has in the past caused a great deal of physical discomfort and i have issues with my digestive system. Although i can imagine the experience been incredibly cleansing..

I can't add much on Ayahausca but i did have an opportunity to smoke N'N-DMT some five years ago which fundamentally altered the way in which i perceive myself and the world around me, breaking-through on that substance was the single most intense mind-shattering event i have ever experienced, based on that i'm not sure i would handle the duration of Ayahausca well.. but i also understand that the intensity from smoked DMT is much more pronounced.

You enjoy going for a walk were before you wouldnt even think anything of it.

Long term effects I will report on later if there are any.

Thanks for sharing your experiences here.

Now after 5 months, what do you think are the long term effects, both positive and negative, and will you take Ayahuasca again?

RE: Ayahuasca and the body
I don't understand how it works on a physical level, there has been no science carried out as far as I know. But in my experience, you will feel rejuvinated, refreshed and enlivened from ayahuasca. From the inside out, it heals the physical body, the emotional body, the mental body. Everything "works" a lot better because after taking it, the effect is the aging process becomes a lot smoother. It's quite common to meet ayahuascaros in their 80's really full of life and ayahuasca drinkers in their 50's to be extremely healthy.

For this effect to really be noticable, you'd have to do it once a month, and not even a full dose is necessary. It is quite possible to take a more medicinal dose, which is not completely visionary, which is how people in the amazon were taking it before the gringos came along and wanted the full power visions and mystical experiences. It is quite possible to buy ayahuasca vine yourself online and prepare it in this way if you are dedicated enough to learning about it what it can do for you.

RE: Ayahuasca and the body
I cosign seeing older (45+) indigenous guys who are full of life and have no issue going for hour or daylong hikes in the amazon. Part of it is the regulatory effect on your bowel I think. And regarding the science. Current medicine has like two black spots in the body: the brain and the stomach, the two which ayahuasca seems to penetrate. I might go for a second round the coming year in Ecuador.

RE: Ayahuasca and the body
Puckerman, reading your ayahuasca experience is very strange to me. You describe it like you went to eat a hamburger or something. I mean, for me personally, it was one of the most intense experiences of my life. You describe things like the people, the dog, how you sang songs!!?? This while I was out of this world, nearly not able to move for 3-4 hours, etc. It makes me think that you had a very light dose perhaps or another combination of plants.

Also: "I do think things are happening at the subconscious level though." To even wonder about this after ayahuasca to me is just bizar.

The shaking represents an involuntary release.

You should feel clearer in the days after drinking ayahuasca.

RE: Ayahuasca and the body
I'd be interested in knowing the dosages you guys are taking if anyone thinks to ask, would be a good addition to the thread so those who are experimenting on their own know where to begin. How much vine goes into a brew, how much brew brew per person kinda stuff. I dosed Syrian Rue (mao inhibitor) and Mimosa Hostilis years ago with a close friend and it was one of the more powerful trips I've been on. Believe it was 30g of MH. They share the same active alkaloids in ayahuasca.

One guy said to me that it's "like beer." In other words, everyone has their own brew.

RE: Ayahuasca and the body
I just finished watching an interesting documentary on Netflix, mainly about DMT, but also touches on other psychedelics such as Ayahuasca (which contains DMT).

It's called DMT: The Spirit Molecule.

RE: Ayahuasca and the body
^ DMT The Spirit Molecule is a good documentary and others can be found by searching “ayahuasca documentary” on youtube. People considering ayahuasca should learn a lot about it before doing it. People will also get a lot more out of ayahuasca if they prepare for the experience.

"Stepping Into The Fire" was a good documentary but after it was made there were major problems at the ayahuasca retreat featured in the documentary and it was revealed that the shaman was a fake. Many ayahuasca shaman are fake although most of them aren't that dangerous and are just trying to make money. Ayahuasca isn’t very dangerous for informed and pragmatic people but it can be dangerous for naïve people seeking a magic pill. Ayahuasca is not a magic pill and taking two weeks to go to an ayahuasca retreat is not a magic pill either.

People who want to get the most out of ayahuasca can do a lot of work to get their mind right and their body right beforehand. Health and lifestyle improvements can make a huge difference:
* sleep habits
* nutrition
* reducing or eliminating drugs and alcohol
* exercise
* reducing stress levels
* surrounding yourself with positive people
* eliminating negative people and negative messaging (tv, social media, advertising)
* meditation can be very helpful because it can be hard to focus when on ayahuasca

Canadian kills fellow tourist during ayahuasca ceremony

Quote:A Canadian man killed his friend and fellow tourist after both men consumed ayahuasca in a ceremony outside Iquitos last night.

According to Reuters, Joshua Freeman-Stevens stabbed British citizen Unais Gomes after the latter attacked him with a knife.

Witnesses say Gomes was suffering a bad experience after ingesting ayahuasca, which contains the hallucinogenic chemical DMT, and attacked Freeman with a knife from the kitchen of the Phoenix Ayahuasca retreat outside Iquitos. After a struggle, Freeman stabbed Gomes with the same knife in the chest and stomach.

“It might be folkloric, spiritual or whatever else, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a drug that dramatically alters your state of mind,” Iquitos police officer Normando Marques told Reuters. He added that Freeman was in police custody.

The Phoenix Ayahuasca is a hotel and retreat in Iquitos catering to foreign tourists looking to take the hallucinogenic drug, ayahuasca, which is legal in Peru as indigenous communities of the Amazon jungle have taken the drug in religious ceremonies for hundreds of years. According to Reuters, ayahuasca tourism has increased in recent years. Phoenix Ayahuasca charges $1,200 for a 10-day stay which includes three nights of ayahuasca dosing.

“Approximately 40 minutes [after taking ayahuasca] visions begin, which may be of ‘other worlds’ or new perspectives on ‘this world’ and/or recollections in words, sights, sounds or feelings of episodes and events from your life which need to be healed and which can now be approached from a position of knowledge and strength, aided by the spirit of ayahuasca,” reads the Phoenix Ayahuasca website.

A New Zealand man died from a nicotine overdose after ingesting tobacco tea in the purging stage of an ayahuasca ceremony last September. In February a Canadian woman also died from an overdose.

Ayahuasca is currently classified in the United States as a Schedule I drug with “no currently accepted medical use.” However recent studies have shown it could be useful in the treatment of diabetes or addiction to alcohol and nicotine.

While there is certainly merit to the healing properties of Ayahuasca, you should remember these ceremonies can be fucking wild.

RE: Ayahuasca and the body
Yikes, talk about a bad trip. Can't even imagine what life will be like for that guy after being attacked with a knife and then having to kill his friend while tripping on DMT. I knew a guy who ate a bunch of mushrooms and possibly some acid with a friend and then his friend killed himself while they were tripping together. Dude was messed up for life, never talked except when using cocaine and then he wouldn't shut up. Supposedly he was completely normal before this happened though I met him after. Eventually moved to the southwest to feed his addiction and no one ever heard from him again, presumably dead as well.

All the more reason to know your dosages as I mentioned above. I wouldn't take anything made by someone else without knowing what they put into it, and any reliable source selling extracts etc should be able to tell you "X amount of product per chocolate" or whatever. Legal and natural doesn't necessarily mean safe.
