RE: The Philippines thread
I feel for you with the parcel situation. There is no hope with the postal system, I made that mistake before and I was able to get my package after waiting 6 weeks, going to the post office and paying the fee. The Makati main post office was like something from Charles Dickens' London with piles of paperwork, no computers and the staff ushering me from one official at a desk to another in another back room and so on.
You can get packages delivered door to door but you need to use the international shipping solutions, not the Philippines post.

Dr Johnson rumbles with the RawGod. And lives to regret it.

RE: The Philippines thread
Online dating has.gone down a lot because of several reasons:

1. low barrier to entry to tavel.here. ts cheap.
2. no language barrier
3. cheap and accessible to set up an online dating account.
4. blogs / internet / etc.
5. more people working online

I.feel really comfortable here in makati and.bgc, like I'm still in the U.S., but I also get a lot of upside. i was in.US a month and.that was enough for me.

I think the regular posters mostly stopped posting. Probabaly not wanting to.discuss on forums cause there are too.many random lurkers online. what's left? not as much high quality discussions.

but still some good ones here..

RE: The Philippines thread
Has anyone lately tried to extend their tourist visas for 6 months lately? I went to extend today and went for 6 months as always. (its not the first extension) He told me he could only give me 1 month. I asked if there are new regulations or what the reason is for that and he brushed me off. While waiting I went up to another employee there and asked the same. He said it'd be either 1 or 2 months now. I told him the other guy would not even give me 2 and he said oh yeah its up to him. I asked again if that's a new regulation and he said "maybe" and brushed me off too. Then I asked while paying and I was told 6 months extensions still exist but "they are currently monitoring all foreigners very closely" I later on heard an Asian guy asking the same thing getting an answer as vague as the one I got.

This is worrying, but did you go to the main immigration in Manila? I've met guys who couldn't get six months either, but they were going to smaller branches. I've never had a problem at the main one.

Which immigration office was this? They've started hassling me when entering the country lately about all my Philippines stamps (but never done anything).

To the RooshV mates that pmed me...

My older account in here got banned because of insulting a guy who was basically writing ''Nazism and Muslim people extermination is the cure Europe need'' in the Budapest thread. (Nice job of the Mods to ban someone active in here for many years without any warning if you ask me)

I could create a new account but I can't actually reply your PMs... :/ Sorry...

A six month extension is a privilege not a right. They can also deny you from getting an extension if they have suspicion you are here under false pretenses. Like working, etc. Plus a multitude of other reasons. Many people lately have been entering the country to work in the BPO industry, Offshore Gambling industry, construction, and tourism(dive instructor, etc). Instead of getting a proper work visa.

Has anyone applied for a retirement visa here?

Does it make it easier if you have a fresh passport to get your Visa processed, or is it also in their computer systems in places like Thailand or Philippines

Cheers!

Well, I should say that I wasn't able to get a six month extension in the Dasma office, and they said they don't do six month extensions, only the main one does. So I went to the main one in Manila next time and had no problems.

Yes, only certain offices can give a 6 month extension. Its always been this way. Why post your grievance if it was resolved? ie you going to the wrong office

Since the OP didn’t state which office he was at, I was just mentioning that the smaller offices will often not give out a six month visa.

Does that make sense to you?

My bad! I thought you were the guy venting about not being able to get a 6 month visa. I had to look back at it again

Like anyone is trying to work illegally in the Philippines.

That’s one of the funniest things I’ve read on this forum.

RE: The Philippines thread
Ok let me rephrase.

Like a western tourist bothering to go to immigration for an extension is a high risk to work illegally in the Philippines.

Chinese prostitutes and gamblers not included.

They are not Chinese gamblers and prostitutes
They work in the offshore gambling industry, construction, and restaurants

Second I know westerners working here illegally in the call centers. Also its a known fact that backpackers do odd jobs to fund their travels along the way. ie traveling dive instructor

Should I post more articles...?

In essence they are cracking down in general. Whether westerner or not.

No need.

Just seems odd to me that a country where most women are unhireable once they reach their mid to late 20’s, and that pays the majority of the working class absolute shit, would have a big enough illegal workforce for immigration officers to give Joe a hard time when he’s trying to get an extension.

Of course it’s the Philippines, where common sense is absent.

I've heard if they get visible tattoos it further limits their employability, even when young and good looking. Can't say as I dislike that aspect though. It probably keeps a lot of them from looking like wallpaper the way many western women do nowadays. Just disgusting.

Work is pretty tough to find there, which is why so many go abroad to work and send remittances back. Most domestic helpers I've seen in other parts of SEA are definitely well over 25 yrs old, which would make sense if it's even harder for them to find work than it was when they were younger.

I don't know how long a backpacker would need to commit but even for a short duration working ten hours a day in a call center at Philippino wages isn't something I'd do without looking for other options elsewhere. Given the choices for locals I can't blame them though. I read about some guy who gets paid $480 a month to filter images for Twitter, and that buys him a middle class lifestyle in Manilla, FWIW.

So he and hundreds of other Philippinos fry their brain looking at pictures of murder and child molesting for peanuts so that silicon valley globohomos can get rich while lecturing the rest of us on the narrative and blocking political initiatives that they don't like. Clown world, indeed.

Thats significantly higher than the minimum wage which is around 550 php a day last I heard.

I hear you on the tattoo thing. I saw an otherwise beautiful chick at greenbelt once but she was obviously on the prowl. Gigantic tits, small outfit and just covered in tats. Its like she was stamped by her Barangay boyfriend.

On that note, I saw a middle aged (at least) woman with sleeves yesterday. Not a good look.

Just came on here to rant about some common sense bs here and this is the first thing I saw in the thread. No wonder!

Asking for directions is pathetic here. I ask where is it located? She says "J Camus"
then she says "going toward Malfori"

Is that a street? a neighborhood? A mall? Or what? I don't know wtf "J Camus" is! And if they indeed are street names, it appears to be 2 parallel streets far from each other! so none is going "towards" any other of the other of the 2! So how can it be "going towards" ? Makes no sense!

Then when she says I was wrong about what it is, she says alongside "upper st"
Upper WHAT street?! You still have not told me the STREET NAME. I give up!

When a person was meeting me in the mall, I kept asking where they are because they kept saying it is the "grocery department". I can't find a place by that name! Later it turned out it was Robinson's Supermarket. First of all, that is not a "department" it is a separate "store". And it is called a supermarket. People here need to stop calling their 'made up names' for everything. If there is some special 'code name' for the store, well how am I supposed to know it? Robinson's Supermarket is Robinson's Supermarket. If you are going to meet some foreigner there you call it Robinson's Supermarket! Not something else or they may not even find you!

You're right, NO COMMON SENSE AT ALL in the Philippines.

Tindera wages are like 5K or less per month, so they say. They get african wages along with some free rice for lunch. About the same wage as in east Africa for manufacturing wage. Poor service sector jobs are about as common here as manufacturing jobs that employ the masses in places like Bangladesh and east Africa. No wonder the Philippines looks just as poor as them despite official minimum wages on par with Brazil, China, Malaysia and other quite industrialized countries.
