News is celebrity gossip for smart people.

I don't watch tv, don't have facebook, twitter or any of that rubbish. Everything Else is definitely my biggest time waster, and also how i catch up on the news.

RE: No media challenge
I like the idea of going to a coffee shop to get shit done, I did it a lot my senior year of college.

Also, check out the K9 web filter:

http://www1.k9webprotection.com/

I used it to help kick my porn habit 2 years ago, but it can be used for anything. While you will know the password to get to the sites you block, literally seeing the screen blocked is so powerful. Checking media sources daily is an ingrained, unconscious habit. We mindlessly go to these sites and don't realize what we're doing. When you see the K9 screen page pop-up to block the website it stops that unconscious habit loop in it's tracks and allows you to think "Do I really need to be looking at this site now?"

I wrote about this idea here: http://www.rooshvforum.com/thread-34680-...92401.html

It's worth the effort!

I do the Tim Ferris thing, asking my friends if anything of note is happening, "no? okay thanks." then get on with my day.

RE: No media challenge
I've been thinking about this for a while and I think it has become necessary for me. While I already watch very little TV, news from the Internet takes up way too much of my time.

One article could probably answer the question I had about a particular current event, but this often leads to more articles, more sources, and really it's all a waste. You don't gain anything of substance from the news, no skills, no cognitive challenge, and the information you gather is relevant for maybe 1 month.

It's 'brain sugar'.

I want to get back to the point where I was using the internet to focus on whatever information I need for immediate application, instead of 'filing' information away for later.

I remember when I first discovered blogs like Roosh, Roissy and Krauser I would start at the beginning and read all of the archives, gaining a real sense of their philosophy and what was applicable to my life. I think bouncing around from source to source prevents you from properly absorbing knowledge.

@kazushu I like that tactic. It's actually frustrating knowing too much about a current events topic because you get the urge to correct someone instead of enjoying the natural flow of a conversation.
