Korean music video on fat women
Not usually into any sort of music even remotely like this but this definitely caught my eye and might speak for Korean culture a bit. Not discussing the quality of the music here. I think the message here is worth sharing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYs_GMfCqTI

first: WB. for sure.

This video has sparked controversy mainly due to the lyrics:

"Any woman would love to show off
Any woman goes on a diet at least once
When you’re a woman, you of course want to receive love
The prince of my dreams will certaintly appear to me"

"(I take note on everything I want to eat)
I live noxiously everyday
(I endure all the pains)
I’m going to be prettier
I’m going to love you more, I’m going to show you more of it
I will change, you will see
You do deserve it"

"Any man would wish for such a woman
Any man, as if they’re all the same, love pretty women
Every man thinks about sex at least once
If only they were thinking about me, would be great if it were me"

I find the message here seriously amazing. Doesn't seem like anything damaging to me. A lot of people were quick to label the whole thing as misogyny because "girls shouldn't be worrying about what their body looks like, they should love themselves and be proud regardless of their weight". Another all too common response was the "you can be overweight and healthy" comment.

The golden donut in the video represents a magical way for fat people to become thin. This, to me, is interesting because it raises a question for fatpride people. Would they take the magical way out or are they really proud?

My question here is: should this attitude from women be welcomed?

I can't comment on this from an insider perspective, but the Mc Loco is kinda nice.

And this song is a symptom of what's happening over there

http://www.economist.com/news/asia/21602...farmed-out

And even that story doesn't have a happy ending

"In fact, the number of Korean men taking foreign brides is dropping, from 31,000 a year in 2005 to 18,000 last year. And nine-tenths of matches are now urban, says Mr Lee. Vietnamese girls no longer want to languish in the Korean countryside, says Kim Young-shin of the Korea-Vietnam Cultural Centre in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital. They like watching Korean dramas and listening to K-pop—urban pursuits."

Welcome to Asia.

My main girl weighs about 90lbs and claims to be "fat". Who am I to disagree? Laugh

Dreambig, Looks like you have it made! It seems like such a complete opposite of western culture. After having come across a lot of fat pride propoganda lately this is so refreshing. An insider perspective would be interesting. I wonder if this is frowned upon as much as western people have been doing to this particular attitude.

RE: Korean music video on fat women
I've been seeing a white girl who spent the last 2 years teaching English in Korea. She's about 50kg / 110lb, tiny athletic girl, yet says she constantly gets shamed for being "fat" over there (Korean chicks would tell her that she needs to be below 42kg), which fuels her to work out hard to stay in shape lol. Thanks Korea!

It could go the other way though. My ex (white girl) went to Japan to teach English for a couple of years and came back only to whale up rapidly. Almost didn't recognise her when I ran into her again.

The difference is that the first one doesn't like feminism and wants to be a girly girl, while the second one has always parroted feminist lines.

This fat shaming from Asian countries is very welcoming, but I do have one criticism. The way the girls go about keeping themselves thin there is stupid. They don't exercise at all and they starve themselves, which often produces an unhealthy shapeless skinnyfat body void of sexuality. Obviously that's still way better than the fatties we have in the West, but tbh I'm not much attracted to that either.

I'd take shapeless over absolute whale any day. But this is an interesting occurrence. It means the fat shaming easily shows the true nature of a (at that time) skinny girl. It becomes a sort of fat potential warning. I suppose it's much easier to get girls who are devoted to staying skinny into the gym than trying to convince a whale to do so.

Fat pride is mocked everywhere in East Asia.

It's a given here that girls need to be thin to attract a man.

Vendors have tried to push the "pocchari (chubby) is beautiful" line on the Japanese, but nobody is buying it. At least for now.

It works the other way round too.

When I was bulking up this winter, colleagues and strangers were pinching at my belly.

"Wow. You got fat!" is apparently a sociably acceptable way to start a conversation...

RE: Korean music video on fat women
well seeing as how you were bulking up fat is inevitable. So rational thinking would prevent anyone from feeling upset over such a thing. Also a man shouldn't be bothered by such comments in my opinion.

I think I actually prefer that to how the people here in The Netherlands react when I tell them it's cutting season and I'm trying to lose fat. "what fat?". It's apparently close to a sin to burn fat.

One of the great things about living in Asia is that there's very little sense of "political correctness" as evidenced by this music video. Girls know that no one will take them seriously unless they're skinny and/or attractive.

It's so grody when Asian girls dye their hair blonde. It has never ever ever ever EVER looked better.

Agreed. A natural colour looks so much better. These girls change their heir every five seconds though. That said, she still looks okay. And the message is all the same. These thin girls (however weird their hair is) still do better than fatties...

You're goddamn right they would. The only reason they whine and cry about fat acceptance is because, like petulant children, they don't want to do the hard thing and go on a fucking diet.

Any of you have kid brothers who hated brushing their teeth when they were little? Imagine an adult version of some guy who still refused to brush his teeth and wanted to start a rotten teeth acceptance movement. This fat acceptance bullshit is similar to that.

"Accept me as I am because I'm too lazy and/or weak to change."

The world would be a happier place if we had more beautiful women. Women would be happy with themselves and men will be happy to look at them.

With that said, we need a lot more fat shaming.

My woman does that to me too. When I start a bulk cycle and she sees me lifting, she always pinches my stomach and tells me "ni duzi hen da!" (Chinese for your stomach is too big)

I ask her, what she thinks about my arms, chest, etc. or my gains, and she tells me they look the same as before. Makes me wanna die sometimes. Laugh
