After about day 4 this feeling slowly went away and was replaced by... boredom.

Have you solved this? How?

HonantheBarbarian-

Bravo. After a recent experiment of total sobriety and then returning to smoking weed, I have to admit to myself that smoking weed makes me completely retarded. I'm over it. The only things it's really good for is going to see a movie.

Lime, I solved it by getting busy doing things that didnt involve a computer screen or my tv. Things that were staring me in the face for years that I couldnt pick out through the haze.

I got some nice shirts I had laying around tailored, I plan on wearing one out tonight, actually. I took over all of the new accounts at our small business and revamped the entire inventory. By September were going to have some badass merchandise that can seriously compete with bigger retailers. I negotiated aggressively with the company reps for these deals, my father (who oversaw and watched it unfold from a distance) was pleased. He always criticized my negotioating style in the past, saying I was too nice and polite. This time he was like wtf has gotten into you?

When your thoughts arent consumed by getting to your next smoke break, you turn your attention to winning the actual game. An uneasy restlessness settles in that can only be appeased by getting shit done. I havent felt like this in years, I feel like im in highschool again!

Weed really is in the same category as porn, video games, and Netflix. No wonder it is getting more and more popular. It's a form of easy entertainment that takes away your swagger and motivation.

I spent a good amount of my life getting high. The less I smoke, the better my game. Barely ever do it now. The most beta guys I know are all huge potheads, all they do is smoke, it's a vicious cycle.

RE: Going from smoking weed everyday to once a while
Using MJ for a specific purposes is what i'm still debating.

Say you're feeling a lot of anxiety, stress. When it's anxiety or stress, Is it best to embrace this "difficult time" sober or high to help you through this period of your life?

It is a coping mechanism obviously. But what happens when you're "go-to" coping mechanism doesn't work (exercise, eat healthy, take a walk, or hang out with your friends, falls flat), what then?

MJ is good for helping to cope. But what happens when you start using MJ for any "tough" situation. It can become a slippery slope then.

I get my bar results this Friday, in 2 days, so questioning whether I get high all day and night until then is on the table.

Any thoughts in regards to this or your own personal experiences in using substances to cope, will be appreciated.

(background situation: exam is offered 2ce a year, and you have to wait 3-4 months in between to know your results, usually resorts to work for shitty attorneys for shitty pay through the year. taken it multiple times already. but now i'm pushing on my own business as an alternate route).

You answered your own question. If I were to fully assess your situation I'd need more information about your history with smoking weed, but I can tell you that you shouldn't rely on it for any purpose. Sleep, eating, and stress relief - these are the "uses" that will turn your habit into a full blown addiction. What if you can't get any? What if you want to travel? What if the situation makes it inadvisable or downright dangerous to get high?

Despite what anybody says weed can be addictive (I don't believe it is or isn't).

I'm well qualified to comment in this thread so AMA. I smoked every day for 10 years and all day for at least 6 or those. I robbed myself of a variety of important life experiences during what should have been my best years. It's not really weed's fault per se. If you're having trouble coping with some aspect of life turning to drugs will not improve it unless you're talking about a psychedelic experience with a specific intent. You'd be much better off addressing the real psychological issue, whatever that is.

RE: Going from smoking weed everyday to once a while
There needs to a distinction when it comes to weed in terms of smoking up and edibles.

I have been baking my own brownies for years and they have become so popular that I even get friends wanting to buy some from me as I might turn it into a online business with Canada set to legalise it next year.

Since edibles go into your blood stream the high lasts much longer as much as 6 -8 hours. Unlike smoking up where you get a intense high for a few hours and are craving more ... by ingesting it the effect is usually more mellow and chilled out. Everybody reacts differently as I avoid giving it to girls as they tend to get sleepy.

Since I have been into a fitness routine this year I really hate smoking and negatives associated with it compared to the edibles.... however usually the brownies or cookies take a hour to kick in.

Most people should take a break from the weed from time to and detox but I really do find I'm at my creative best when high on the weed.

Another interesting thing is people doing weed tend to drink less and this was born out in study I saw about how alcohol sales are down in Colorado since legalisation.

I agree with the first part. Strongly disagree with the second. Because it does take longer to kick in, it's much more difficult to dose yourself with edibles. In my experience and that of many other people I know edibles are much more likely to cause a panicky, distinctly un-mellow experience.

If people are wanting to follow the trajectory described in the thread's title then I don't think edibles is the way to go. If you're limiting yourself to once a week it's not going to adversely affect your fitness regimen provided you don't smoke right before running or doing intervals.

For what it's worth, some people like to get high before they lift because you feel less pain and can therefore dig a little deeper.

Longterm puffer here - Always was a lightweight though, with one/two puffs sending me off into a nice orbit. Unable to buy any in Tbilisi but people will puff you out. It's considered rude to exchange money for it, since the mtn people basically throw it at you

Although my best ideas ever came while being baked, coffee was needed to fuel the 'follow through' of turning them into reality. Took a full year off once, becoming more social but ended up drinking more beer (which I also love)

It helps being in a legal city that has the full spectrum of strains/vapes though. Some sativas make me wig out whereas a few indicas can be amazing, especially when I need to feel content with what I have. I had some outdoor in Albania that was wonderful - not too strong at all, but super pleasant.

What the fuck? This post started somewhat rationally, but then you just say this. Fuck being high for two days straight, it's a waste of time and money.

I don't understand why people smoke in the morning, sure you get high, but then you come down again, and trying to get high again hardly works at all. Then by the end of the day you've wasted an entire day doing nothing, feel like shit and can't even get stoned anymore. You want to keep this going for two days?

I know a lot of people smoke all day and night, but it's a complete waste, those people hardly ever even seem stoned, I'm wondering why waste their weed like that, just to be very slightly stoned forever.

I realised in college, I was completely useless if I smoked weed in the daytime, so I set a strict rule not to ever smoke in the day, don't smoke until you've finished what you've planned for the day.

Oh and smoking before lifting because it "reduces pain, allowing you to lift more"

LOL, only a stoner who's too far gone comes up with silly rationalisations like this.

You're conveniently leaving out the part about weed making you lazy as fuck, making you lazy and shitty in the gym. And you know it, but you will argue about it anyway, because the truth hurts too much.

I smoked a lot of weed in high school.

We were a group who decided to quit. Began by only smoking on weekends, kept that up for months, then eventually quit. Do you have someone to help you quit?

You should probably think about why you smoke, what could be a substitute. Sports, outdoor activities are the best for quitting addiction. Too much of sitting around leads to drinking/smoking. Get a hobby, fill your lungs with fresh air, get fit.

All of my 1rms have been achieved after a smoke, but its nothing to do with reducing pain. It just helps me stop overthinking, and just lift. It's also very popular among BJJ enthusiasts for the same reason.

You hit on an important point here. If your social life is 100% based around smoking weed then you'll never be able to stop or even cut down. You can still hang out with your stoner friends, but it will need to be much less. If you depend on weed to be able to socialize then as I said earlier you need to diagnose what the real problem is and what's causing it.

RE: Going from smoking weed everyday to once a while
Some people are more easily influenced than others (i'm unfortunately one of them) and during my job this summer I smoked weed for 30 days straight after maybe smoking once a month previously. Now where I live the weed culture is so small that I haven't touched it for nearly 2 months, I feel good, once on a special occassion I may smoke a J but otherwise it's not beneficial at all, if you surround yourself with people who don't smoke the likelihood of you bunning weed will be much lower.

RE: Going from smoking weed everyday to once a while
Thank you for the words of encouragement, and ass kicking, guys.

I took the advice and instead of ignoring the stressful situations and getting high, I manned up and sucked it up and went on sober. I did some deep introspection of why I would throw away days just being high and doing nothing while waiting for my results.

It was pretty tough. In sum, I came to the conclusion that I've put the past 2-3 years on only becoming an attorney. I ignored healthy relationships, friendships, and was surrounding myself with people with little to no integrity.

So i'm refocusing my life and efforts. (1) Studying for the bar exam again (shit happens, get over it and move on), (2) continue to build my side business. (3) Remain keto and nofap strong. (4) Keep practicing game. (5) Finally, one of the RVF martial arts post encouraged me to check out a martial arts studio that offers both Aikido and Systema, doing it tomorrow.

Building healthy relationships is key, as you mentioned.

In all, thank you guys for giving me insight and putting a mirror up on my face.

Weed, although it has medical benefits, should remain for real medicinal patients. Not for "recreational" uses.

RE: Going from smoking weed everyday to once a while
I'm looking for some advice for dealing with insomnia related to quitting weed. I was smoking pretty heavy over the past couple of months and also doing edibles/blazing at night so my THC levels were pretty high, then I quit cold turkey because I have a piss test coming up and it really affected my sleep. I was off of work for a week so decided to do my detox but wasn't expecting it to affect my sleep so much, for the first three nights I only slept for about 3-4 hours and it was interrupted. Then it improved to about 5-6 hours but I was still waking up. Last night I decided to hit up the weed store and smoked about a half gram in my vaporizer before bed then slept like a log for ten glorious hours.

During my detox I was taking 10 mgs of melatonin and a GABA pill before going to sleep but it didn't help very much, does anyone have any other suggestions?

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

Orally taken GABA doesn't usually make it across the blood/brain barrier. If you want something over the counter that touches the GABA system there's valerian. Otherwise you can get a script for one of the z-drugs. Back in the college university days of trying "better living through chemistry" I never got more than a couple nights of sleep out of any of the GABA affecting drugs before the brain adapted.

The antihistamine type sleep aids always left me feeling awful the next day, but they are still available over the counter. If you go the prescription mediated route, low doses of remeron (mirtazapine) can induce some rather profound sedation and sleep.

All of the pharmaceutical sleep aids have the common problem where, you're going to some insomnia coming off of them as well. Since they don't linger in the system as long, you might not suffer as many bad nights coming off of them. Or you could suffer even more.

Warm milk or some other easily digestible but satiating protein before bed can help a bit with getting the body used to responding to its natural sleep inducing chemistry again.

Detox related insomnia tends to be a self limiting problem. Eventually sleep does come, though it may not be at the time you want it to. If you ride out enough nights of shit sleep the healthy, natural, quality sleep will come eventually.

This is going to sound crazy but special K. I don't know if it'll show up in your test but I my friend offered it to me for the first time recently and it aided with my insomnia. Just once and you don't need to do anymore, special K has also been approved to cure depression, it's not very harmful and if done once there will be no negative effects.

RE: Going from smoking weed everyday to once a while
Haha fucking ketamine no thanks, I’ve been in a couple of K holes over the years, they’re kinda fun but I’m trying to get straight man. Same with the benzos, I took a few xanax last month and they knocked me out but they also stay in the system for up to a month. BBinger I agree, the good natural sleep will come, I really just have to tough it out. I think I’ll have a few puffs before bed over the next couple of nights then go off cold turkey again, I have a strong indica so hopefully it does the trick.

Getting sober is a weird experience, I haven’t touched alcohol in over five months and quit cigarettes (again) a couple of weeks ago. I usually quit weed a couple of times each year due to work and always relied on booze and cigs as a crutch. Now I don’t have those to help me out so this time getting off of the ganja has been more difficult.

Maybe I’ll just hit the gym or jerk or something.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

RE: Going from smoking weed everyday to once a while
I haven't smoked in a month but I have found myself missing it. I think it's mostly because I am in between jobs and have a lot of free time. I was only a night smoker and rarely smoked during the day unless I was doing an outdoor activity by a body of water on the weekend.

It really does help me creatively, since I quit I have like 5 unfinished songs and haven't really had a breakthrough on any of them. When I was smoking I could rip a bowl, get comfortable in front of my laptop with my guitar and if I sat there for 2-3 hours I would usually make some progress. The main con of this process was going to bed late. Also as it has been mentioned before on this thread, weed + sex is awesome. A combo that just about can't be topped.

My concern was the long term effects on the brain. I've only smoked for a few years but I had the sneaking suspicion that I wasn't as sharp and/or hungry as I was when I was a few years younger. Putting a chemical in your brain day after day for long periods probably will have some consequences. It's easy fun, makes being bored and doing nothing cool, but nothing is free: there must be some cost. Now that it's getting legalized and everything I'm questioning it even more. I do miss it though. Once I have my shit together I could see myself doing it once or twice a month. I just feel like I need every edge I can get. There are people out there not smoking and moving ahead of me in life.

For you guys that quit after smoking after a while, did you feel sharper or notice a return of faster mental capabilities? I have considered that I could just be kind of dope

Disclaimer: I use a Mighty and vape homegrown weed almost every night. I only use the vaporizer and do not rip the bong or smoke Js like I used to. It's been about 4 months now since I made the switch. I would recommend it to anyone who uses frequently. Saves a lot of bud, much cleaner high (no coughing, stuffy nose, watery eyes), and doesn't smell. Expensive up front, but saves you money in the long run. My best purchase of 2018 no question.

I would say I've personally been sharper since I stopped smoking, which I do attribute in part to switching to vaporization. Inhaling smoke on a regular basis just cannot be good for your brain and lungs, I can see how cutting that out would help your ability to focus. I suspect that the lack of focus from smoking weed is attributable to the smoke inhalation, and not the cannabanoids.

However I have always been highly skeptical of those who claim weed kills their motivation. Personally, my motivation has been rock solid even while smoking weed. I also never use until the evening/after I have accomplished something big so that might be part of the reason.

Life is short. Work hard, but don't be afraid to enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I use a Mighty and vape homegrown weed almost every night. I only use the vaporizer and do not rip the bong or smoke Js like I used to. Nice. That's a pretty hefty price but if the benefits are there as you say then it's probably worth it. I had a cartridge pen for a bit and while it was super convenient and didn't smell, it was hard to get legit cartridges and it was a different high than actual bud (I prefer the real plant). And who knows what kind of chemicals are in it. Thanks for your input

I also don't buy into the weed-motivation link. I think weed just makes you more honest about how you really feel about the work on your plate.

I used to get high a lot when I was working on some projects that were interesting to me. I had no problem maintaining motivation and got a lot of work done despite getting high every day. If anything, it helped me unwind at the end of the day.

Later I was working a dysfunctional corporate job that completely burned me out. Getting high no longer felt as relaxing as it used to. I was still burned out and getting less productive every day.

I also recommend the use of a vaporizer.

The thing about weed is it makes boring shit interesting (which is bad in many ways.)
Last fall I had quit besides when I saw my brother every week or 2. I was spending a couple hours a night walking around bumping headphones and enjoyed it about as much as smoking before winter drove me indoors and I've been smoking most nights (ONLY nights is a good rule of thumb, if it's not at least 9pm there is probably something I can accomplish better sober.)

I'm actually going to give the "weed wagon" another spin in a couple weeks when spring rolls in.
