Great suggestions thanks guys. fuck crossfit and fuck strippers chillin in my peripheral. Distracting as fuck. the gym is the one place I'd like to be completely free of self-imposed approach anxiety.

RE: Lifter's Lounge
Starting a cut today. Im trying to lose 15 lbs in the next 5 weeks, going from 170 to 155. I'll be happy at 10 lbs though. I'm doing it by tracking my macros to make sure i get 150g of protein per day inside of my 1800 daily calorie allowance (my maintainence is 2800) and just letting my dietary fat and carbs be whatever as long as i dont exceed 1800 calories.

I tried low carb for a few days but was having really awful/explosive shits so I had to stop. Upping the carbs/veggies hopefully prevents that problem again. I'll be lifting 3-4 times a week, HIIT 1-2 times and 1 5 mile jog. I'll cut back on HIIT and jogging if my energy levels dip too much. Anyway I'll update yall a couple times over the next 5 weeks with progress.

Took this pre-Vet girl on a date to the Zoo on Sunday. Never seen a Kangaroo in real life before.

They definitely do not skip arm day. Very impressive arm development along with low bodyfat.

Possibly my new favorite animal.

When you guys are on the road and you can't really count calories accurately - do you go IF? Or just have days where you avoid carbs and then let yourself enjoy food one day. Alternating days?

Thanks.

I've head great success just skipping grains. Dropped 10 lbs in 3 weeks by doing that. No bread, no rice, etc. but plenty of fruits and veggies. Not too bad, but man do I miss pizza.

RE: Lifter's Lounge
Does anyone know of a good fish oil supplement that has smaller, easier-to-swallow pills compared to usual fish oil pills?

I have these which are rated #1 on Amazon. Good price, and two pills a day gives you Omega 3 + 800mg EPA + 600mg DHA which is apparently a pretty solid daily intake for a man who is trying to gain muscle, grow a beard and reap the other hundreds of benefits.

But the pills are the same size as most fish oil pills I've seen, and I can't convince myself to get them down.

I've looked at a few mini capsules but all of them have not-as-positive reviews that question the brand's authenticity and lack of EPA/DHA, etc.

Or should I just man the fuck up and learn to deal with the size...

RE: Lifter's Lounge
1/31 this year I decided to cut way back on carbs / sugars (after an inspiring Joe Rogan podcast I posted)

I started for reasons mentioned in the podcast. Generally, because I think humans were meant to run on more fats and some protein and less carbs, overall. Possibly feel better, etc.

I wasn't exactly sure where this would take me, and even if I don't go ketosis or whatever, it will make me eat healthier in the future.

So for the last 2 or so weeks I've been eating spinach salads at lunch with chicken or egg, a lot of nuts, peanut butter (I know this isn't the best thing), veggies, etc. My treats have been whole wheat bread (the good stuff) with butter. On the weekends I've splurged and not really paid attention. Point is, I've basically just been generally eating healthier, more veggies, less processed carbs.

I've lost 5 pounds without trying. Mind you, this wasn't a goal. I might rather have the extra 5 pounds. But it's amazing what dropping carb intake does.

(Five pounds for me is a lot. To give you an idea, as an adult I've only been at most 10 pounds heavier than my high school weight.)

Just wanted to share.

I eat slowly until the hunger just goes away, never util I'm really full. After a while, that becomes easy. I also get pretty good at portion control by now, and I roughly know how many calories are in each portion.

Ha, that's the podcast that got me started on a low carb approach too. Stopped eating grains and processed sugars that day.

Noticing a lot more definition in my upper body from hitting accessory lifts as well as other physical activities. I was afraid of going hard on other sports when I was doing 5x5, because it would kill my ability to get all 5 sets completed. 5/3/1 is a lot less severe in that regard.

Have also set a definitive goal for legs that will make me hit a new level of strength.

RE: Lifter's Lounge
I have rejuvenated my weightlifting by starting Layne Norton's PHAT lifting program. I have been on it for about 3-4 weeks and I have been noticing consistent gains in terms of size and strength. It is a combination power and hypertrophy program with 2 days a week of power lifts (heavy weight low reps) and 3 days of hypertrophy lifts (lighter weight, more reps). It has a serious amount of volume so I leave the gym knowing and feeling that I had a good workout.

I think the most concise article on the program is found here. It also has a standard routine listed to try which I started with and have since modified slightly.

How do you guys deal with possible injuries ?

I made a list:

Pectoralis minor (little moves and bringing my arm close and across bugs me)
Ankle (from deep tissue damage falling climbing)
Shoulder (rotating my arm backwards and shoulder press issues)
Lumbar L4 L5 (xray showed L4 disk was somewhat smaller than the L5 normal)

I work alot and I know the chiro/doc is going to say chill out on working out.

Should I go to a sports specialist ?

I went to a Chiro before but the results were mediocre.

I have lots of old injuries because I exercised poorly (too heavy, bad posture etc) when I was younger, and now I have to pay the price for it. I get pain in certain muscles and joints once in a while.
But I have learnt to live with it. I hate taking breaks in my training but what I do is find other exercises that doesn't cause any pain. For example, sometimes I have pain in my right shoulder when I do incline bench or shoulder presses. When that happens I just do flat bench presses for a while until the pain goes away.

Muscle memory is real, first time in gym in a year yesterday due to injury, could quite easily get to 70-80% of max with no sweat. I've lifted for 5-6 years in total and it seems that the muscle is there to stay, meaning it is an actual lasting tissue adaptation in some form.

I do feel the doms hard today.

I know it'll suck stopping, but if it helps long term, I don't mind skipping a few specific workouts.

I remember when my right shoulder started hurting crossfitting, I quit, went to a normal gym, and I did more cardio and legs to make up for it.

I think I just might to a sports clinic do an initial check to see if there's something serious.
