Other thing to note:

He started bodybuilding in is 40s due to a bad marriage.

Been looking into different programs over 531. As mentioned before, 531 is relatively new to me (~5 months), but before then I had been doing some variation of 5x5 for 2+ years.

Thinking about giving the Arnold split (3-4 set variation, not the monster 6 set roided variation) a try during the summer.

This is my default program when I get sick of training, or end up stalled for a while. It's great, I always make progress on it, and it doesn't take long. Part of the point of it, particularly if you are busy and work a stressful job, is that it is sufficiently short that you can face it at the end of a hard day. You can always find 20 minutes, and you can always get through it. There is no need for excuses with this program. You can get in, at worst maintain the results of your hard work, and get out.

Man, how did I miss this one?

Yeah, I use it all the time. I did it with Clean and Press and I added 15 lbs to my max in six weeks and I got bigger and better conditioned.

This is my default program when I don't know what else to do because it seems to hit all the bases, strength, mass, and cardio.

I also get one hell of a pump doing it. I've been doing 50/20 for a dip/chin superset the last 8 weeks and it's great.

50/20 really takes all the guesswork out of lifting. Just set a stopwatch and do work.

I tend to go hard the first session. Let's say I get 35 reps. I'll stay with that volume range for a couple weeks, then bump it up. I used to go hard every session, but you get burned out doing that, especially if you're doing bigger lifts like deadlift and back squat.

RE: Lifter's Lounge
Decided to totally switch it up and change programs during the 531 deload week.

Did a medium weight, not balls out, Arnold split. Today was chest and back. Nice pump going compared to what I was getting on 5x5.

As it was deload week and I did some extra activities this weekend 3 sets of 10 reps were easy to power through. 30 reps of 135 on bench felt good. As did the chin up bar.

Will see how it goes when I hit real weight next week.

Guys have you ever worked out with a girl? I've got this one girl I met some time ago, she joined my gym and I had a short chat with her today. Things are looking good, I suggested we should work out some day. I'm just gonna hit her up in a few days. I've been thinking of doing legs with her as this is probably the best workout to spot and go full kino on her. (especially squats)
Do you have any other suggestions though?

It's a waste of time. You're going to spend more time explaining what a kettlebell does or whether or not a 15 minute pushup cardio video thing from It Works! is worth doing.

I decided to do really light weights with the p90x program to get that tone and I'm only eating twice a day, one of those meals is a Shakeology shake. They're so good, you ever try them? I was thinking about doing a spinning class but no one ever wants to go with.

Your goal should be to get her out of the gym and into your bed. Being her workout partner isn't really going to benefit either of you - least of all you.

Seems like loading and unloading of a lot of weights.

I'd say this will be interpreted by her as crossing the line from indirect game to a weightlifting partner (or, weird guy who doesn't let his intentions known).

Let's grab a drink is an indirect way of saying let's fuck.
Let's do squats together is like saying let's change the brakes on our cars together.

That said, maybe she'll interpret you spotting her as you being smooth. My guess is, though, if you do get to swap spit, it'll be because you asked her to go grab a drink. She'll probably wonder why you went through the trouble of working out with her instead of just asking her to hang out.

I chase girls who lift. I often invite them over to my garage gym to "work out and chill". I always work out before they come over because it would be a waste of my time as a work out, and because we never really work out.

So to answer your question absolutely not in the setting you describe. You would be better off going to a park and doing yoga together.

Make sure to spot her just like this.

On a more serious note. I'm with heavy. Just ask her to do something that makes your intentions known.

Working out with girls sucks. It pretty much always just slows you down.

Thanks for the responses on the 50/20, I enjoyed the session I did with deadlifts, so I think I'll run it for a while.

Doing a weights workout with a girl is awful. You'll waste so much time answering questions, correcting form, loading and unloading plates (because there'll be such differences in what you two are lifting) and just being generally distracted. I've tried it and I don't recommend it at all.

Doing HIIT with a girl on the other hand is great. Its something they can almost compete with you at, and its very simple. I try to bring any girl I'm dating on weekly HIIT sessions if I can. Its good fun, it gets them in shape, you establish a bit of dominance by outpacing them, and the post-workout shower sex is usually great.

Dont you just hate it when know it all teenagers on the juice walk around the gym thinking they own shit? This one group was fucking yelling about anavar and dianabol dropping plates on the floor throwing dumbbells and did maybe one or two sets of a workout for every body part. Heres the kicker, they were all skinny fat, kind of strong (with shitty form) but this stupidity blows my mind

Great interview with Pendlay from 2011. He talks about how whole-body workouts stimulate powerful horomnal responses, training for speed and explosiveness, the push press, etc.

I should have just gotten them straight away. I was overseas and got the Inov-8 Fast Lifts because I didn't want to drop the money, these are worth it in every respect. Tighter fitting shoe, more secure lacing, extra strap over the toe, much wider sole which increases stability, and a .10" higher heel than the 335's. I PR'd C&J @ 140 lbs with them yesterday.

I never had squatting shoes. How beneficial are they? Do they help you out up more weight?

I'm looking to get a new belt. My Velcro one is a piece of crap. I want to get a customized leather but haven't found any good ones on line. I want a design or some words on it.

^I have the red adipowers, I think the difference between the adipowers and the nikes are that the nikes are wider and adipowers narrower from what i heard. I've never tried the nikes on though but have friends who have them. i prefer the looks of the adipowers.

when i wear them i feel like my feet are planted in the ground because unlike a typical shoe, their soles have no cushioning and are firm. Also the heel is elevated so it helps you get a deeper squat if ankle mobility is something you lack.

The best way i can describe wearing them is its like your feet are planted in the ground with cement. theres no wiggle at all.

one thing to note is that doing deadlifts in oly weightlifting shoes is harder than a regular shoe or barefoot because the heel is elevated higher meaning compared to the other two, you will be starting at a small deficit. this is a really minor detail but makes a difference when you get bigger numbers.

For belts I hear good things from Inzer and Titan. both run around $100

I do high intensity, low volume, reverse pyramid training 3 times a week, push/pull/legs style. My question is it OK to do shoulder exercises with legs on leg day? Normally I was doing it on push day with chest and triceps but it's tiring to do shoulder presses etc after demanding chest exercises.

Might be better to split it up into 4 workouts in a similar way to how 5-3-1 has a bench (chest) day and a press (shoulders) day. You can still do 3 workouts per week with that template.

But you could totally combine legs with shoulders. Lots of people press and squat/deadlift on the same day. Just make sure there's enough rest before the next workout.
