Originally written for Donna Summer "You Can" was another ground breaking production from the incomparable Georgio Moroder. When Donna regected the song he gave it to up and coming Swedish pop/ dance star 22 yo Madleen Kane who ended up making the song a global hit. Very sultry, sexy, genius production:

Here's somebody I bet you forgot all about.

Dancer. Singer. Actor.

Gregory Hines was all over the place in the 80's.

The VCR covers. Netflix is gonna deprive a whole generation of going down to blockbuster video and picking movies purely based off of which one has the most awesome cover art. Guns? Check. Babes? Check? Gangsters? Check. Renting? You bet.

RE: 80s thread, best of the 80s
I might be wrong on this observation, but movie soundtracks of the era seemed to have a better "design philosophy".

Unlike contemporary OSTs, which usually sport the tagline "music from and inspired by the film", most 80's soundtracks seem to be compiled from b-sides or throwaway tracks (exceptions being actual theme songs like "Axel F.", "Theme from Fletch", "Ghostbusters", "Footloose" or the entire "Purple Rain" album).

There weren't that many songs made specifically for the movie, and it shows.

For example:

“As long as you are going to be thinking anyway, think big.” - Donald J. Trump

"I don't get all the women I want, I get all the women who want me." - David Lee Roth

Fast Times at Ridgemont High had a great soundtrack.

I was going to disagree with you about it being B-sides, so I looked it up and you are right:

Purple Rain had a good soundtrack. Not B sides. But probably the exception.

Seeing Apollonia cleanse herself in Lake Minnetonka, on a big screen? Mercy.
Never saw it in theatres (too young for that), only on a very worn VHS, which I still have.

Speaking of Prince protegés:

(featuring The Time as "the band behind the curtain". Sounds better/funkier than the album cuts.)

This one's a piece of curio, an unreleased Apollonia 6 mini-movie. And a very rough cut, some FX are missing.

Not sure if mentioned yet, but Eddie Murph was on a blast back then. He even sang!

Here with Rick James, another 80s iconical figure.
