This was always my favorite Sade song. She also seems to have not hit the wall so hard, here's an article with a picture from earlier this year.

Pioneers of the 80's: Rap | Electro | Breakbeats | Freestyle

Prologue

The below selections include a mandatory nod to some classic hits known to many hiphop-electro fans of the 80's, along with some lesser-heard tracks or artists that laid the foundations of style for the future.

Acknowledging the work of previous generations is a must for understanding and appreciating the material, cultural and other riches enjoyed in the present day, and looking back at music of the past is one way to share this with others in a light, fun way.

On a personal note, there's plenty of sentimental value for me in re-exploring the sounds of the 80's* (as embedded or flagged with asterisks). I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I enjoyed compiling them.

I'll continue the party-music theme.

The 80s had such a positive party atmosphere. I just don't think it's possible to make music like this anymore because everyone's so damn depressed over the state of the world and fighting endless dumpster-fires on twitter.

How about a little "toxic masculinity" before anybody gave a shit?

Here's a really obscure one circa 1981-82

RE: 80s thread, best of the 80s
Here's a song that people old enough to remember the 80s haven't heard in ages, but the video typifies the 80s aesthetic: heavy makeup, spandex, and dance choreography:

(Quite a bit of "jiggle" at the end of this video in that kimono of hers. That sort of thing, as tame as it is, made an impact on adolescent boys like me back in the day. Stuff like that, the mud wrestling in Girls on Film, the cavalcade of bikinis in California Girls, Hot for Teacher, etc... Yes, the 80s were a great time for a boy to go through puberty.)

To me the best part of 80s in mainstream radio-friendly pop/R&B was the first half. After Live-Aid I think that music took a very hard shift towards hip-hop and heavy sampling and I just wasn't down for that. The 2nd half of the 80s for me is nostalgic mostly as the last-stand for musical virtuosity via metal in its various flavors.

Also, the early 80s featured a lot of veteran artists from the 60s and 70s who enjoyed a revival in the MTV era. They became popular to a new generation because of new hits in the 80s, NOT their back-catalog. Examples: Tina Turner, David Bowie, Yes, The Moody Blues. So there was a TON of variety during that era which faded after 1985.

In particular, here is an example of an old act that kids weren't "supposed" to like, but it became big. There were quite a few of these cross-generational hits. Kind of interesting seeing this in retrospect as the song itself is about nostalgia from a time as far back from the 80s the 80s are to now.

Probably Sade's best song, don't think it was ever a single.

Watched this tonight and damn if it doesn't hold up well. Scorsese knows how to make a movie that's for sure.

Also has one of my favorite Clapton songs:
