Trying the Shenmue games for the first time.
Now I didn't play them on release so it will never give me the impact it gave people 20 years ago with it's innovative features that are in many open world games today taken as granted.
That being said, I really enjoy the soundtrack and the immersion it forces you to have.

RE: Video games

Comes out Jan 25th/Friday! Finally!

I'm a big RE fan and have been waiting for some version of this remake for what feels like forever; probably since the RE 1 remake back during the GameCube era.

That said, I played the 1-shot demo of the remake recently and it's awesome. I was worried about the over the shoulder change leading things to being too action-y (which I don't want; I want survival horror) but it works well. Just hard enough to aim to make it interesting/challenging but not frustrating.

Speaking of survival horror, give RE 7 (the first person view one) a go too. Played that a while back and that was some real deal tense shit. Capcom really nailed it after going off the reservation with RE 5 and 6.

RE 7 looked kinda lame to me. No zombies? Some kind of weird texas chainsaw massacre vibe? Pass.

I'm buying RE2 remake day one, though. The demo was some of the most fun I've had in a video game in ages.

RE 7 uses the same engine as RE 2 by the way, though the vibe is very different given the perspective changes. Despite the lack of traditional zombies, I still very much highly recommend it. I had the same initial concerns and didn't really like the RE 7 vibe via videos I saw online but it will make you tense as hell once you're in the thick of it, believe me. There is also a VR version for PS4 and there is no way in hell I would ever play that on a first playthrough but it's supposedly beyond freaky as hell to play. You can get it and all the DLC (some of it is actually good) on a big discount every once in a while.

There is also a demo for RE 7 that gives you a good vibe for the overall game. I wasn't sold on it until I played the demo so I suggest giving that a go and then see how you feel about it.

But RE 2 first. I'm hyped.

Resident evil 2 looks amazing! I will have to play it. And Kingdom Heart 3 is out soon. The first 2 were fun but the plot didn't make any sense. Sounds like the same thing here.

Alright the weeb in me is going to come out:

The first Kingdom Hearts was an iconic game with classic themes, a SquareSoft highpoint, an action rpg with Final Fantasy/Zelda platforming elements which was rare at the time, amazing flowing gameplay, I have minor issues with the 2nd where the story became convoluted for its own sake (and removed some of the RPG elements), but its still excellent. They are the two I played back in the day as a teenager, but the series plot went to hell with all the spin offs on various machines I didn't have. They wanted to milk it dry, rather than do a proper 3rd title for years.

When a Disney and Square employee met in an elevator and said they should work on a game is how the series came to be.

Fantastic peerless music though, Yoko Shimomura the series composer, she is an insane talent, I sort of wish this was the kind of thing that had been in the new Star Wars films (if they had been good)

The main theme:

We all thought this was the 3rd mainline title back in the day (2006), so epic, back when Youtube was invented, this was everywhere.

Resident Evil 2 (2019) is fantastic and defied all hype and expectations. Most people thought it had been quietly cancelled after Capcom went silent after the initial 2015 reveal that it was actually in development (the first trailer/update didn't arrive until around 2017). As a long time fan, it's up there with REmake (2002, GameCube- later ported to PC/PS4/XONE in 2015) as the greatest Resident Evil titles of all time.

I also loved 7 and thought it was simultaneously an amazing return to form and reinvention of RE (especially after it cratered with 5, and the infinitely awful 6). Until 7, RE4 was paradoxically both the savior and downfall of the franchise. It's an absolute classic, but the success of 4 should have kicked off a more action-oriented spinoff series IMO.

The remake of RE2 is a beautiful synthesis of modern perspective, mechanics and polish- with the real survivor horror gameplay and atmosphere of the original installments. Highly recommended if you've played the original or dig survival horror.

Fun game. Good pick up.

Great concept, tense gameplay, very tight controls, great sounds, and the deep backstory of how the world came to be is so compelling and done with great imagination, nice to get an big budget original game with great lore and not what you usually expect. How the technological and mythological are brilliantly blend in with one another.

There's a character who's the biggest bastard I've ever seen in fiction. I can't think of any story that has a worse person in it. I will say no more for fear of ruining it for you, because the game is a great enigma at first. I expected to tear the game apart (particularly because a lot of the soyboy publications tendency to overhype anything with a female lead) but ended up loving it. A new favourite.

Apex Legends is apparently the new 3-player squad based royale hotness.

Of course the character roster is woke.

[Image: Full-roster-of-characters-available-in-Apex-Legends.jpg]

Despite there being no storyline whatsoever we're assured by the developers that two of the characters are gay. We're left to assume the sexuality of the other characters which I think is somewhat insensitive.

The only obviously white guy is behind a paywall, his name is literally Caustic and his special abilities revolve around firing "toxic" gas canisters. Wokeydoke.

I was excited to get a 3 man Caustic squad together respectively called "White", "Heterosexual" and "Male" and run around gassing fags, lesbos and other minorities but my son informs me that you can only have one of each character in a squad.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

I'm a pretty big Fallout lore fan and I would say it's a good but not great Fallout game. That said, it currently has the most hours played on my steam account with Don't Starve being the only game remotely close to it. The RPG aspects are...adequate at best, the gunplay is solid, Power Armor is a blast to play in, Robot fights (with DLC), the story is...good in places and bad in others. Lots of followers to add character to the game. Great voice acting. It looks pretty damn good out of the box in my opinion. Almost no bugs until I modded the hell out of it. I'd recommend it. I think you can get the base game and all DLC for pretty cheap when they have a sale. Don't worry about Creation Club there is almost nothing you need on there.

Speaking of mods, if you only grab one get "Sim Settlements", it will allow you to assign a follower to "build" for you on one of the many, many settlements. You'll enjoy the game a lot more with friendly bases everywhere and that look well built too. And if you really enjoy the game there are tons of mods that will fix almost any issues you have with the game as well as add flavor and immersion. nexusmods.com will cover you if you're on PC
