Female Doctors
What are your experiences with the quality of care of female doctors (outside of bangs)?

I have a female primary care doc. She's pretty chill and I get the impression I could cajole her into prescribing me things I say I want.

Outside of primary care though, my friend recently had what was supposed to be an in/out minor surgery that has morphed into an overnight stay well into the 2nd day afternoon. She's pretty frustrated right now with how long it has taken her all female staff to get her in and out. Apparently the female doc's schedule is flexible and she decided to leave yesterday so my friend couldn't get discharged in the evening.

I'll be honest, but if I ever have any surgical work done i'm requesting all male doctors.

Shalom Alechem!

RE: Female Doctors
I find it extremely immature and insecure, if not outright gay in a weird way, when men prefer female doctors lest another man touch their balls or dick.

I have found female doctors, as people, and unlike most other female professionals, to have a character far superior to that of the average American woman.

1. A male doctor may have personally experienced the issue you are dealing with.
2. If you believe a woman's place is in the home, it would be immoral and deceitful to patronize female professionals where competent male ones are readily available.

RE: Female Doctors
For the most part women work in general practice or as a pediatrician. Men for the most part work in the more specialized areas. It's clear that women do well in the lower fields so it's not a big deal when it comes to checkups. As far as surgeries go well men dominate this field so it's nothing anyone have to worry about.

If I had a choice between a man who had gone through with 100 successful surgeries vs a female with 150 then I would choose the female no doubt. It's clear that she is a more experienced doctor

That's def not true.

Do you also think female nurses are more nurturing? Which is also not true

Females tend to think men are in less pain than we really are. The unpleasantness of females in the hospital is quite apparent due to entitlements and competition with other females.

Men tend to understand another mans pain and are less condescending

This is from my experience and other friends/relatives who work in the medical field

No hate here, my PCP is a lady and is pretty good. Again I could say, "give me 500mg of amoxicillian" and i'll have a script and leave.

I'm more referring to specialists and surgeons. My friend's experience has been pretty poor with delays and re-schedulings and this is in a major research city (Boston).

Oh man, I really need to quote this so guys do not make the mistake of thinking female doctors are more emphatic or nurturing. Actually, you don't need a doc to be nurturing (that's a nurse), you need your doc to be impartial, rational and open-minded.

Modern women in general, and a lot of female doctors, think men moan about being ill, when in fact men are much likely to not tell the truth about their pain. Women cry when they are in pain, men go out of their way to be stoic. A lot of female doctors don't understand this, for the same reasons they many western women don't understand men in general. This mostly only applies to western doctors though.

Also, for any and all matters regarding your dick and balls, go see a male doctor.

RE: Female Doctors
Outside of routine the routine check up smoke and mirror shows, I have only had to go to a doctor twice in my life.

The first was in HS after a motorcycle wreck scraped off about a thrid of my back, knees and ground my elbows down to the bone. I had to be treated like a burn victim with a couple treatments of dips in iodine whirlpools getting scrubbed with something akin to a scotchbrite pad. The old female nurse would rush me in to the whirlpool and just start scrubbing. Now imagine how bad a scrape feels and imagine that on a thrid of your back and your joints. Now imagine some battle axe skank manhandling you with a brillo pad. It was rough and she offered no anestesia or drugs during the process. So I just sat there screaming until I passed out a couple times over the next 15 minutes. I remember my parents freaking out and the nurse saying, "Oh, I can probably go get something for the pain." Thanks for thinking of that AFTERWARD!!!! Then I was out again.

[Image: bitch,die,insult,spongebob,truth,funny-2...eb91_h.jpg]

The second time was after a car wreck that required surgery and a week in the hospital to repair. This time I had some younger 20 something nurses. I was helpless and their attitudes toward me were nothing short of disgust. I am not attributing this to them being female, I am attibuting this to them being human beings being worthless pieces of shit at their jobs. I spent a week of pissing myself while trying to drag my body to the toilet because it would take an hour to get someone to my room to help. And if someone would arrive, the female nurses would give me a snarky "What is your problem!" response or couldn't help move me being I was 240 pounds at the time. The best nurse I had during that experience was the male PT staff. They had the physical ability to do the job.

I am not female hating here, this is all anecdotal and I put a lot of the blame on the deathcare industry because I have met quack male doctors too. I know a few professional female anesthetist, phlebotomists, and radiologists but if I had a choice of nurse, I would definately choose a male over a female if I was truly unable to help myself because most women I know have a hard time empathizing with men and some cannot physically handle certain tasks.

It's all good though, I developed a really high tolerance for pain and can probably take a bat to the face without feeling it now Smile

So bottom line, yes, I would see a female doctor and judge her on her abilites alone. Now as far as nurses are concerned, it really depends on the situation. If all I need is some drugs and something pretty to look at, I am cool with it. If I am helpless or am in extreme pain, I would prefer a male nurse.

Tough question. If it's brain surgery I would go with a male doctor. If it's a minor procedure or appendectomy, would not care.

Had a groin/torsion injury. Went to see a top notch male doc and he knew right away and got it straight immediately. He had it his own self before. It was like I did not need to explain alot. If you are an athlete, male doctors, especially the sports ones, are faster at figuring out problems and have the best rehab advice.

They also tend to have the best hookups and intel on what physical therapists are the best that the local pro athletes are going to see. Alot of them played sports or understand the stuff enough to check my blood work in a different way, my test levels, and BMI. Few female doctors do. I know one and she is sports medicine savvy, but she is still not the best one I have seen. Definitely not top 10 in my book.

Mentavious is right about the specialists and surgeons. Most are men. The elite ones are all men. The best neck surgeon in my city shook my hand and the grip was stronger than any non martial arts expert I have ever met. Stronger than any corn fed farm boy too. It was amazing.

Remember it isn't as simple as picking female versus a male based on face value of experience. How much time has each one spent practicing? If she spent five of the past 15 years of "practice" changing diapers at home, you may never know that, whereas the male doc has been in the work force the whole time, honing his craft.

Hit the nail on the head.

As a 50-something guy, I've completely given up on female docs. I can see in their eyes that they really don't care about my problems or my pain. They ignore what I say. I am male and therefore a non-person. Or to put it more precisely, I am male and therefore I'm disposable in their eyes. They have 100,000 years of cultural conditioning and evolution that makes them believe that we men should be the ones hurt and killed. Of course they won't admit it.

For a man, a woman doctor could literally be the difference between life and death, because she won't make that extra effort that can make a big difference.

Male doctors on the other hand, take their job seriously for BOTH sexes. They are conditioned to care for women, but they also know that their fellow men take most of the risks in society and suffer the most serious injuries.

As a 50-year old man, I have gotten incredible care from younger (30 and 40 year old) male doctors. Especially Chinese doctors trained in modern medicine. They LISTEN when I tell them shit. I take exacting care of my body, and I know what's going on with it.

If my body fails my family will be in the streets...literally. I don't take chances.

Agreed.

I've gotten this feeling too from female docs. But I don't think the reason for this is that female docs don't care about men. I saw them be just as uncaring with my ex-wife, who had a chronic back problem.

I think it's because women lack the obsessive curiosity men have. When you present a problem to a male doc, he usually puts on his "House" thinking cap and really tries to get to the bottom of it.

Conversely, I've found female docs try to put the problem in a predetermined "slot," which may or may not be correct.

I once had an ex-girlfriend excoriate me because I "tried to solve every problem" and she felt that was "a male quality" I needed to lose. She had learned this from her women' studies profs. Putting the stupidity of that aside, the "male quality" she spoke of is pretty damned important when you go to the doc and have no idea what might be wrong. Improper diagnosis = permanent damage or death.

Absolutely true. I have made it a rule to only see a male doctor. I would only ever want a man to perform surgery on me. It's a no brainer and something that feels very natural and instinctive to me. Aside from the reasons listed above and many more for why men are inherently better surgeons, women take time out during the most crucial period of their career to have a child and look after it, all the while the man of the same age is spending his time honing his skills and gaining experience.

Hades you mentioned that you wouldn't mind a female doctor performing a minor procedure on you but would for a major procedure. If you knew how many complications arise every year due to botched minor surgeries then I guarantee that you wouldn't be saying that.

Remember that there is a reason why most of the specialists and surgeons are men. Natural ratios like this occur for a reason and to go against this by instituting 'we need more female surgeons' campaigns means that we are going against the natural unhindered evolution of a craft towards perfection.

What's interesting though is how different female doctors are from female nurses. Nurses are catty & entitled like the normal american girl, but female docs are a different breed.

Dudes, let me disabuse you of this fallacy: I was married to a female doctor. I got to know her and her friends very, very well, as y ou might imagine. Young female doctors have 1) less dependency on men because they earn a lot of cake 2) tend to work in high-adrenaline situations with lots of other attractive, affluent people. This leads to hooking up in the closet at the hospital emergency room. They are ***NOT***, I repeat ***NOT*** higher in character, in my experience. I would NEVER date another female doctor (or lawyer, for that matter) ever again. Period. End of story.

As for their professional qualifications, I feel there are a lot of great female and male doctors and a lot of LOUSY female (and male) doctors. All that matters is whether the particular doctor, male or female, that you are seeing is strong. But in terms of generalities, I will say that women doctors excel in their bedside manner; you see fewer "great doctor but poor bedside manner" situations than you see with male doctors. But, as with EVERYTHING else in life, the doctors at the very high end of the performance curve are, with few exceptions, male.

This is my experience: The absolute best and the absolute shittiest docs I've had have been males. ie. the occupy the far ends of the spectrum. The middle range has been mostly female, which is fine.

The ones I am most uneasy with are fat female doctors or nurses. I just think "oh fuck, you are a walking hipocrisy" and most often their abilities in their job are poor.

I won't say ALL women are bad or less good though. I spent alot of time with my kid in intensive care pediatrics and those people are the gravy of their professions. Cool and competent nurses, doctors who actually stop and think about treatment and diagnosis instead of speed writing a prescription and then moving on.

Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing? Psalm 2:1 KJV
