Yes, I agree. In the Geraldo interview with him in the 80's, Manson claimed to have written the Beach Boys song "In My Room." Whether he was full of shit or not, when I hear that song now the lyrics do sound very Manson-like. I've never been able to listen to it the same way again.

Below is the Manson/Beach Boys song, which is called "Never Learn Not to Love" (originally titled "Cease to Exist"). Manson sold it to Dennis Wilson in exchange for a motorcycle. It was also placed on the b-side of the minor hit 45 "Bluebirds Over the Mountain," giving the Beach Boys the dubious distinction of getting Manson's music into thousands of people's homes via that single.

This song can also be found on the 1969 album "20/20," if you're interested. To their credit, the Beach Boys never attempted to remove the song from the album after what happened with Manson -- even though at the time it was seen as a major public relations problem.

IIRC correctly a lot of them had X's on their foreheads that they later expanded during their trials, just to be shocking apparently. I mean, I'm sure he could tell he wasn't ever coming out.

Well if you are a lifer or very long sentence, you might be better off joining a gang on the inside. White guys don't have alot of gangs or outfits to join up with as much as the Latinos and blacks. He may have joined them for protection more than because he hates other races. Last time I checked NeoNazi's are the strongest white group in US prisons. Problem with the US prison system is that almost every one ends up promoting racism within the population. Whites fight Latinos, Latinos fight the Blacks, etc. etc. The guards have to segregate the populations based on your tattoos and your gang otherwise you are a dead man walking. It's almost like most guys in prison gotta quickly pick a side and stick with it. All that does is condition them to be a much harder animal and psychopath than they ever were before. He didn't join any prison gang I don't think, he's segregated from everyone else. He's a high profile and dangerous inmate, I doubt he gets to interact with other prisoners at all.

Some years ago when he was in Corcoran, the gate was left unlocked to his deseg unit and a bunch of dudes broke in, beat him up and smashed his guitar. Guards found Manson curled up in a corner crying.

Are you sure about that? I thought only Federal SuperMax prisons, and more specifically, the Isolation cell/solitary confinement guys are isolated from all people.

California has the death penalty. It did back in 1969, too. But in 1972 the death penalty statute was overturned by the state supreme court. It commuted everyone one on death row at the time to life in prison without parole. It was reinstated in the early 90's, but those that had their sentences commuted in 1972 couldn't be added back to death row. (cruel and unusual punishment)

California doesn't kill as quickly as Texas, because putting one innocent man to death is not worth killing all these shitbags like Manson, Scott Peterson, etc. etc. You have to have due process. The appeals process is much too long for my taste. But if it saves one guys life is it not worth it? Believe me, I figure most of these guys are guilty as hell and need to be killed ASAP. Still, I'd rather live in a civilized society than a knee-jerk, bullshit, wild west frontier place.

Think about these poor bastards that are falsely accused of rape. How easy it is to lose your freedom, because you banged the wrong chick. It's a not a big jump to be accused of murder after being accused of rape. If I ever found myself in this position I'd hope their were some protections in place - so the word of one wacky bitch wouldn't mean lights out.
