Back surgery to stabilize a fractured vertebra, 2 rods and ten screws.

Go back in April to get them out after recovering substantially.

You haven't had pain killers until they've put you on the shit that they use to kill people on death row.

RE: Anybody Ever Have Surgery Before?
Wisdom teeth which was no big deal, I don't remember the procedure and I just spent a few days in bed reading the collected Sherlock Holmes stories afterward. My face didn't even really swell up.

I had an ACL reconstruction done as well. I had an autograft so they cut a chunk of tendon out of my hamstring and used that to make my new ACL. Kinda neat, the incision to remove the piece of tendon was way bigger than the actual knee scope holes. They sliced a two inch hole right along the shin bone; it's my biggest scar by a long shot.

The surgery was fine, of course I was under general anaesthetic but before I went under they put a fucking enormous needle into me not too far from the base of my dick. It felt like they stuck it damn near through my body.

The recovery day sucked ass, couldn't get comfortable and my back was super tight and knotty so I couldn't sleep. Getting out of bed when it was time to go was the most painful 60 seconds or so of my life (which is saying something) when all the blood rushed back through my knee. It's the only time since I turned about 12 that I cried in pain. It hurt so much I couldn't even move, I was just stuck half off the bed swearing like a sailor and crying until a woman who was visiting the other guy in my room came over and helped me.

The physical therapy before and after the surgery was infinitely worse than the actual operation. Some of the stuff they did to me would probably count as torture if they did it to POWs. All in all, I'd recommend not tearing any ligaments if you can help it.
