I think the problem is the girl got emotional.

If anyone, ever starts throwing personal attacks you start throwing it back.

He has enough money to walk away. The question is, would anyone bother watching Jeopardy without Trebek?

I think Gilbert Gottfried would be funny as a replacement Laugh

Only if it was hosted by Sean Connery

This 100%

It's feminism. Well, a result of.

It's because of single moms and/or really strong moms and weak dads (leveraged by the court system).

Moms have undying love to their children, to a fault. That's a good thing biologically speaking, because they have to protect the schitlins. Dad loves his kids, but dad also has to go bring home the bacon and, to protect resources, kick the little shit-heads out eventually.

Dad sees the long-term and knows they'll have to deal with the real world eventually, so it's dad's job to do a reality check in situations like these.

You see it in sports all the time. Single moms foster huge egos, which actually helps with success in competitive industries, sports being the most obvious, but no reality check with self-reflection.

Watch Southpark, specifically the Funniest Joke Ever episode. Cartman basically embodies this uber-narcissism.

What good would a re-taping accomplish? The girl already was already devastated. She would have to hold that loss either way. People would still know about it since they were not going to keep the episode from airing.

But I can assure you that the language Alex used to explain the situation to this girl is identical to what he has told every contestant who has ended up in the red in every such episode I've seen. Verbatim, to the point it's almost like it's just a "muscle-memory" thing for Alex. I'm really surprised the girl's hysterical mother was indulged even for a second by any rational person. Sounds like the producer who failed to bitch-slap her needs to be canned.

Lets not forgot that this didn't happen in a public school or some other tax-payer supported venue...it happened on a game show. Where you risk NOTHING and invariably walk away with a four-figure (or more) prize. It is a huge PRIVALEGE to be on a free-money game show and the mother is whining about it. FUCK YOU!

Trebek's cold asshole demeanor is an integral part of Jeopardy. Did this girl and mom even watch the show before going on? What the fuck did they expect?

(12-17-2014 10:18 AM)Mr. Wolf Wrote:  ^^ About Alex's statements at the start of the next day's show, I think his intentions were good. It wasn't an apology of course, nor should it have been because he had done no wrong, but more like an acknowledgement that he realized she took it hard, he seemed to feel bad about that fact, and that he wishes her well in the future. Also, the guy's 74 years old, born in 1940 for goodness sake. I think he deserves some slack when dealing with eggshell-skull millenials. Most men in their 70s are not nearly so pleasant.

True, poor Alex was born at the tail end of the Great Depression and at the start of WWII. In a time when being "strong and independent" didn't mean:

- making everyone around you responsible for your happiness
- expecting the world to jump into action every time something makes you upset

No wonder he's so out of his element. Alex needs to get with the times!
