Am concurrently reading some Lee Child novels at the moment.
Have to say I like the Reacher character. No nonsense, resourceful, strong, intelligent, extremely perceptive (plenty of NLP type observations) and well versed in self defence training.
It's fiction but you definitely find yourself learning as you read these books, Child drops a lot of info on the various systems and equipment Reacher uses and comes across on his missions.
As well as detailed geographical descriptions of whatever country and town/city Reacher finds himself in.
Sure there's a certain pulp quality to it, it's not high art by any means but then it doesn't have it be.
Enjoyable and educational!

Yes, I think I have read every Reacher novel so far. And I share your interest in his powers of observation involving physical threats.

For someone who enjoys Childs' Jack Reacher I also recommend a more international version: The John Rain novels by Barry Eisler. The first books are the best.

Under the Dome by Stephen King. Good read, albeit long (1000 pages). The ending felt rushed and forced, but overall an enjoyable read.

Two I've recently finished:

Models: Attract Women Through Honesty, Mark Manson: It was a good read, and I have respect for his no bullshit, honest approach. Parts of it did strike me as a bit naive and I have the feeling you would miss out on a lot of opportunities by following this method. Not the greatest for racking up high notch counts, but perhaps better for going for a quality over quantity approach. Still something I think most men should read though.

What Every BODY Is Saying, Joe Navarro: A very informative guide to interpreting body language, covering from the feet up to the eyes. It even offers some pictures to go with the examples for better understanding. Only thing I didn't care for was that it started to get a bit dry about halfway through the book and I wasn't as eager to finish it as the books before it. Still very good, very informative, but reads more like a scientific study, so prepare yourself for that.

Up next: American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History, Chris Kyle

With The Old Breed by E.B. Sledge and Guns Up by Johnnie M. Clark. Both are about 300 pages each and I found them very exciting and enjoyable. They are non-fiction military books about life as a soldier in vietnam and ww2.

Rich Kids of Instagram by Maya Sloan pretty mediocre fiction read way too over done. I thought it would be more of a Life times of the rich and famous type read to kill time but it was an overdone completely overthetop fiction story that dragged on for way too long.

just finished Narcissus and Goldmund by Herman Hesse. Beautiful novel.

Let us try to maintain a higher standard of life than that of the multitude, but not a contrary standard; otherwise, we shall frighten away and repel the very persons whom we are trying to improve.

Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking
The man who fell to earth
1984
The way of men
Brave New world

That is what I have read since the start of the year and I would highly recommend each one of them. (Allen Carr's for the smokers who wish to stop).

Finished No More Mr Nice Guy by Robert A. Glove
Taught me alot about how to form average relationship with women. I was in a very many strong relationships while reading the book and using the information. After that though it kinda just was like ehh and returned to my normal quite life .

Adam says to God, "God, why did you make women so soft ?"
God says, "So that you will like them."
Adam says to God, "God, why did you make women so warm and cuddly?"
God says, "So that you will like them."
Adam says to God, "But, God, why did you make them so stupid?"
God says, "So that they will like you"

I finished re-reading the second edition of Sir Bernard Crick's translation of The Discourses on Livy by Niccolò Machiavelli. I find this book to be much better than The Prince which is quite dry. Would you guys be interested in a datasheet-of-sorts on the system of government (classical republicanism) Machiavelli seems to call for in The Discourses? It is very different from modern republicanism. Hell, you can have a classical republican form of government with a monarch!

Best book I read in 2014: Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep, by Phillip K. Dick (1968).
- the masterpiece which allowed Ridley Scott to produce the cult classic blade runner. However, the film is only a loose adaptation. The novel focuses much more on a lack of human authenticity. Dick actually predicts the effect of electronic devices in contemporary society being a sole source of happiness in his dystopia with the 'mood organ device' being unnervingly similar to iphones and tv in stripping authenticity and gluing up the brain.

- also of note: Blood Meridian, by Cormac Mccarthy (1985). State of Fear, by Michael Crichton (2004).

I just finished The Sword of the Lictor by Gene Wolf. Absolutely phenomenal series so far (Book of the New Sun), could not recommend it more for someone looking for some rewarding and challenging science fiction.

I finished Allen Carr's Easyway two days ago it is the absolute truth. If you want to quit smoking, get it. I am roughly 36 hours smoke free as I type this and it's been easy. I swear to God, it's been the easiest thing ever - completely fucking surreal to have this actually be enjoyable - and I never thought I'd write or say as much. I've made my life (at best) a living purgatory trying to quit smoking for over a year. Even if I could quit smoking without this book, I wouldn't... it's that dope.

Joe Karbo's Lazy Man's Way to Riches: I thought it was great because he is basically teaching inner game so you can quit the 9-5 jive and start your own business.

Eat to Live by Joel Furhman. He spends a third of the book breaking down how the traditional Western diet is basically shit is impetus for scores of health problems. I've made many changes to my eating habits thanks to this.

Finished Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder.

It was pretty incredible. The mindset of that man and the winning attidtude he has is incredible.

He just knows he will succeed and win in his mind, and then it happens. Not a surprise.

Highly motivational to get working out and great read to get in the massive success of a mind.

RE: Whenever you finish a book, post it here
I've been slacking on picking up new books lately, so this is a little delayed:

American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History, Chris Kyle: An awesome read, I highly recommend it. In the case of most books-turned-movies, the book is infinitely better than the movie and really capture the raw grittiness of not only his service in Iraq, but also the mostly negative ways it affected his relationship with his wife here at home. It will take you from SEAL school (BUD/S) to the streets of Sadr City in Baghdad and make you feel like you were right there beside him the whole way. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Right now, I'm currently reading How to Make Girls Chase, Chase Amante, yet most of my free time at work has been sucked up, so my reading has been a lot less of lately. About 1/3 of the way through it, so hopefully will be posting that in this thread within the next week or so.
