This guy is un-freaking-unreal!!!
I'm talking about Lionel Messi. This guy is simply un-freaking-unreal! He has an insane goal scoring record this season (52 goals in about 45 or so games)!!! The first player in football to have scored 50 goals in a season in a looong time. And when you watch him take on several players, game in, game out, as if they were just spectators, it leaves you speechless. This kid is better in real than in video games. His stats are unbelieveable. Not only is he by FAR the best player in the world, but I wonder whether, there is currently, a sportsman that dominate his sport as much as him, in any sport, in the world? And to think that he's only 23 is simply scary. He can only get better and will reach his peak at 25.

Btw, any football fans here? What's your team? I've been a Milan fan for ever and love watching Barça and teams in general that play an attractive and offensive football. Are you guys following the Champions League? Barça-United seems to be the final this year and it'll be a hell of a match, with once again, the Catalans (hopefully) and convincingly winning. Wink
On a side note, Mourinho should be banned for life. This guy is the ANTI-football at its best. Makes his teams play like retarded bitches, totally defensive, ugly and has the balls to open his mouth. He has an over-inflated ego for no reason. He's nothing special, just an average coach who's been lucky all his career to have good teams at his disposal. After listening to some of his comments after tonight's loss yet again to Barcelona, it's just ridiculous. I can't be bothered to translate that bitches' comments, but here's a link to his comments: http://www.marca.com/2011/04/27/futbol/e...38838.html It's in spanish, but says it all.

Mourinho OUT OUT OUT!!!ahahahahahahahahah

Gracias Messi y Barça!!!!!

Yeah he is unreal, but my god that game was painful to watch. Barca are a great team but they also have some of the worst play actors in football. Pedro and Dani Alves are 2 of the worst culprits, and any time something goes against them the whole Barca team surround the ref. It was an awful game but Messi lit it up on a couple of occassions, his second goal was ridiculous. Should be a good final.

Messi is amazing. If anybody is likely to pick up Argie girls with ease, it'd be Messi.

However, I think he needs to take Argentina far in the world cup in order to be considered a legend. WC is the biggest and most important tournament.

I agree with Gringoed. Messi still has to prove himself at the WC stage. Right now I would consider him in the same league as Ronaldo and Drogba. All amazing players but still unproven at the WC. I only got to see the last half but as a Real Madrid fan I was pretty disappointed with the play. Haha I don't even know what to say about Mourinho...

Here's an interesting article I read on Askmen about how football positioning is determined almost entirely by salary.

I watched the game yesterday and was dazzled by that goal he made through 5 men. That was unbelievable. Just beautiful to watch in slow motion. It's funny though how he doesn't do nearly as well when he's playing with Argentina. When they played the US a month ago, he didn't even score despite the predictions.

RE: This guy is un-freaking-unreal!!!
Guys,
Football is a team sport. Even geniuses like Messi need a solid team around them to win. At the WC, Argentina didn't have a good coach and that coach (Maradona) didn't make the right team selections, first with the players to take to the WC and 2nd, during the match against Germany. If you look at all 4 German goals, they all came from the German left wing which emphasize the weakness of the Argentina's right back position. Maradona forgot to take a real right back say like Gran Pa Zanetti, who despite his old age, is still the best Argentina has/had available. All this to say that Messi, and Argentina need a real coach, who knows what he needs to do to take advantage of the insane amount of talent at his disposal. Now, Messi, he's been the best in the world for a good 3-4 years, last year, he scored an unreal amount of goals, (49) and this season, he's already at 52 goals so far. Which is unheard of never seen since the days of a certain Pelé.

Messi is enlightening matches all the time. Every time he gets the ball, you know that something electric is going to happen. He's a totally electrifying player. Last time I remember a guy with such amazing talent, that each time he had the ball, you knew something special was about to happen were Zidane and Ronaldo, the real Ronaldo, the real Fenomeno from Brasil. Cristiano Ronaldo is a very good player at best, but to compare him or worst, put him in the same level as Messi is a travesty and a joke. Messi is light years ahead and above Cristiano. Messi is not only the best player in the world, by far, but is already being considered as one of the all time best. Says it all about a truly unique and special player.

I'm not English but I can tell you that Messi, even on a snow storm in the Siberian Tundra would do it. I'd venture as far as saying that whether you put him on a field as small as a basketball court or as big as an airport, he would do it with closed eyes. And with all respect due to the Britannia, if he could do it at the Bernabeu, with the Mourinho Thugs Boyz, he can do it anywhere.

Actually it's become a bit of a running joke here. Stoke City in the wet/cold have become the standard (partly because they represent the archetypal old-school British football team, partly because the last time they were in the 1st Division (as it was then) they set a record for the worst performance ever in the top flight) that all elite "fancy-dan" teams get measured by (yes Arsenal, I'm looking at you). The old attitude that the Continental teams can't handle the British conditions, which goes back to the 50s (and is why the Champions League actually exists).

One commentator actually said that during a Barcelona game. Literally everyone watching and listening that was a mix of Huh and Stfu

Then he got fired.

Really? That's hilarious. Was it this season tough? Why would he get fired for such a comment? It's not like he made a huge gaffe and said something taboo. I have heared far more stupid things from other British footie commentators...

Barcelona's tactic against Madrid is to get someone with a red card and then look for the goal, I don't think they can win any other way.

It's true the WC is the biggest stage but the quality of football is probably better in the Champions League. Lot's of great players played for countries that never really had the chance winning the WC (for example George Best). Ok Messi plays for Argentina but the WC is only every 4th year.
If you're looking at sheer ability, Messi is already up there with Maradona and the rest IMO and by the time he quits, he could very well be the best ever.

It was about 4 months ago. He didn't get fired for that...........

He got fired for this.

Well that and the fact that he was suing his bosses for hacking into his 'phone, this was the perfect excuse for them to get rid.

You are obviously familiar with Ron Atkinson then........

He is unproven at the WC because he doesn't have players like Xavi and Iniesta do half the work for him at the Argentina squad.

I like watching international football (WC, Euro), don't really watch club football too much outside of Champions League. But Messi's goal scoring rate is unbelievable. He is a master among students right now. He will need a WC to truly be considered a great, but he is still young. Didn't realize he is only 23 (is that right?).

My favorite player ever to watch was Ronaldinho. Electrifying. For a few years there he was a toying with everyone. Those were the days. At least Barca is still doing well.
