Neil Strauss's new book
https://www.neilstrauss.com/neil/title

Judging by the description under the title, it will be about relationship game.

It's a catchy title & cover. But what I dislike about the title choice here, is it suggests The Game was about lying. And to quote the man himself, "It's not lying. It's flirting".

Personally, I might give it a download. Just hoping it won't be a "bad boy reformed by an honest woman" hollywood trope. Is this book interesting to the RvF?

The word relationship only means mutual reward

Every time you buy a coffee you are in a business-customer relationship

Every time you get a job you are in a employer-employee relationship

Every time you are in a mutually rewarding situation with a woman sexually speaking it IS a relationship regardless of how long it lasts

Even a one night stand is a relationship allbeit of a very short duration (as long as you both got what you wanted).

Relationship = mutual reward

Relationship != sexual exclusivity (at least not necessarily)

I dont have any sexual exclusivity agreements with women but I have a lot of sexual relationships with a lot of women concurrently (without lying or cheating) and have done so for well over a decade now.

Have been super curious about this book coming out since I met Neil.

He heard about Sex 3.0 (my book) and I ended up at his place in Malibu for a recording of his sirius radio show a little while back when he was writing this book.

After the show we had a long chat about Sex 3.0 and relationships and he said "that's pretty much where i am at right now and what I am writing about".

But, as he always is, he is totally secretive about the details.

Look forward to seeing it. Should be good.

He's a good writer. I assume since he wrote The Game and Rules of the Game that he has had some interesting experiences with his relationships and wants to tell about it.

RE: Neil Strauss's new book
I've read both 'The game' and 'Rules of the game'. To this day Neil is going for the cash hard and still selling products and coaching. At the end of the day he's not someone I want to learn game from. I've always thought he's not like the typical guy who's on RVF. I doubt he could write something meaningful for ROK. However glorifying 'sarging' and 'AMOG-ing' etc has made him good money - I'd say he's in the business of selling a fantasy to a particular demographic.

As far as I know he sells neither.

He's an excellent writer of proven worldwide mass popularity, with I think at least two NYT bestsellers. Another level of accomplishment.

Becoming a NYT best-selling author is like being a fucking NFL quarterback or astronaut. I feel there is usually VERY much to learn about execution from someone who achieves this level of success at ANYTHING.

I don't know what the name of his book about becoming an EMT was, but it is also a whole new level of looking at life from a wider point of view than game.

Let's be fair here, that was kind of his message by the end of "The Game." He came to the conclusion that he was in a growing process and that the next evolution in that was a relationship - he ended up in one at the end of the book.

Of course, Neil is a great writer but far from infallible (as illustrated repeatedly in his book), so his own journey is his own and no one else's, but honestly, most men who live the playboy life end up settling down at some point. It's a natural process.

But I also think you're misinterpreting the title of this book. Read the subtitle.

His implication is that there's a lot more than meets the eye regarding long-term relationships. It's a very provocative and effective title, but I don't think he's trying to draw that strong of a link to "The Game" - just leveraging it for the cred, as he very well should.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.
To be your own man is a hard business. If you try it, you'll be lonely often, and sometimes
frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." - Kipling

I can barely remember anything from The Game, but I don't believe Neil Strauss actually got laid much. How long was he even practicing pickup before he wrote the book? 6 months? A Year? Sure he's famous now and not to hate on his success as a writer, but I have a hard time believing a bald manlet dressed like a homo circus freak was killing it running around in L.A of all places in that time frame, especially using Mystery Method style corny routines. Certainly not enough to go and write books giving advice to people.

Quote:After leaving The New York Times to ghostwrite Jenna Jameson's memoirs, Strauss joined a sub-culture of pick-up artists known as the seduction community, creating the persona of "Style" in 2001[13] and pseudonym of "Chris Powles", eventually publishing an article in the New York Times about his experiences in 2004.[14] In 2005, he published The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists (Regan Books, 2005), a book about his transformation into "Style", a pickup artist under the tutelage of Mystery.

He claims hundreds of notches and I believe it. You really think he would be the most recognizable figure in game if he wasn't any good at it? Four years of living and breathing game, going out every night and renting a mansion close to the strip. If you've seen videos where he interacts with women he is definitely the alpha, thinks quick on his feet, and has a deep understanding of the psychology of attraction.

Granted, he's been in it for the money since, the guys running Stylelife Academy had some of the most obnoxious, dishonest marketing mailings I've seen before they finally removed me from their list. I'd never pay for any of his pickup courses but will probably buy this book anyway because he's an excellent writer and one clever mofo. You don't have to go around asking,"Who lies more, men or women?" to have been influenced by the guy. He sure got me laid more than a couple times.

He was a big time author, (best seller and rolling stone staffer) before he got into the game.

In fact, he talks about those very facts in the book itself.

How can I have all of these great accomplishments, but no sexy girl?

This question is the one that runs through the 90% of us who weren't "good with girls" coming out the womb.

A lot of guys in the game, on this site, in this thread even - don't think you can talk your way into pussy.

That you always need something
- fame
- power
- connections
- money
- good genetics
- height
- muscles
- killer fashion sense
- insanely funny

It can't ever be something as simple as talking to a chick.

Cause if it were, then a man's entire life up to that point has been pointless.

The man thinks to himself, "I talk to girls, how come I'm not swimming in women with their own condominiums?"

It's especially galling to men who find the game online.

I'd say on average, if you're reading up on game, you're a little bit smarter than the average bear. Good grades, good paper accomplishments, jobs, awards, etc.

So talking, communicating, thinking..those are things that you're good at. At least better than the average dude.

So it can't be talking, communicating, thinking.
It's not strategy.

It's got be something that's out of my control.

Right?

I'm not to blame!

And they bury their heads in the sand.

They look at themselves, and go into Monk Mode, thinking that diet and exercise is somehow going to change the entire world.

If I keep on working everything but talking to women, I'll suddenly be able to talk to women.

*shrugs*

No helping them dudes

WIA

RE: Neil Strauss's new book
The book drops next week.

NY Post article: Why I Gave Up Orgies and Porn Stars for Monogamy

Quote:The bald, 5-foot-6 journalist, who’s best known for his hit book “The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists,” seemingly had it all: a successful career, a modest amount of fame and more sex than a porn star. (He once got it on with an actual porn star in a bar bathroom.)

The lifestyle ultimately proved empty, though, sending him on a difficult journey to find himself and real happiness. The result is “The Truth: An Uncomfortable Book About Relationships,” on sale Tuesday.

It’s a searingly honest memoir detailing the most recent years of Strauss’ life as he dives into swingers parties, downs black-market liquid Viagra and parties at Seth MacFarlane’s house, before finally taking steps to improve himself via therapy.

Quote:Even the stars he interviewed were pessimistic. In the book, Strauss recalls Orlando Bloom, who was married to model Miranda Kerr at the time, telling him, “I don’t know if marriage is worth it. I don’t know why anyone does it.”

RE: Neil Strauss's new book
His profound question:
"How can I have all of these great accomplishments, but no sexy girl?"
Is probably the defining question for men of certain societies today.

There are millions of hard working "quite successful" but not rich people, like middle managers at f500 companies, financial controllers/ directors at banks, management consultants, at global consultancy companies, earning six figures, but they are not having sexy girl. Why? You would think they've spent all their lives working hard towards success, a sexy girl should be easy to come, right?

So were we brought up to the idea that if you work hard and become somewhat "successful" in the eye of the average joe and your ego inflated self, does this automatically give us a sexy girl?

Still on the fence about this book.

There's something odd about guys who seemingly become "reformed." Tucker Max also went through something like this-- crisis, disillusionment, therapy, monogamy. These guys fuck a ton of women then tell people it's not that great and that relationships are awesome.
