I wonder if something similar could happen again...

Amid Violence, Factions and Messages Converge in a Weary and Unsettled Baltimore

Quote:Minutes later, Representative Elijah E. Cummings, a Democrat from Maryland, appeared in the middle of a spontaneous march. He was surrounded by several hundred people, walking arm in arm down West North Avenue, singing, “I’m going to stay on the battlefield.”

They walked away from the police gathered just a few blocks away. Every few steps, more people joined the group. A man in a blue shirt locked arms with a man in a gray suit; a man rolled forward in a wheelchair.

“We’re out here, and this is peaceful,” Bishop Walter S. Thomas, pastor of the New Psalmist Baptist Church, shouted to the crowd. After a pause, they continued, singing “This Little Light of Mine.” Helicopters shined spotlights on the group, the thwack-thwack of their rotors competing with the music.

The march ended at New Shiloh Baptist Church on North Monroe Street, where people raised their hands in a moment of silence to commemorate Mr. Gray, who died a week after his arrest. Several of the ministers, led by the Rev. Ron Owens, convened a meeting with some of the young rioters. While about 50 people sat in pews, six or seven young men went to the front of the church with the ministers, where they laid out their own mix of chaos and calm.

A couple of the young men wore bandannas to hide their identity. The young men identified themselves as members of the Crips, Bloods and Black Guerrilla Family street gangs. One of the Crips members, who called himself Charles, wearing a red Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose T-shirt, said the gang members had taken to the street because “there is only so far that you can push people into a corner.”

“We’re frustrated,” he continued, “and that’s why we’re out there in the streets.”

Then he described how he and some Bloods had stood in front of black-owned stores to protect them from looting or vandalism. He said they had made sure no black children, or reporters, were hit by rioters. They pointed them toward Chinese- and Arab-owned stores.

You have to just laugh at this. What better way to protest racial discrimination than to turn violently on a completely uninvolved group of minorities?

If you've lived in the poorer more "multicultural" parts of Southern CA or anywhere else with "interesting" demographics you'll know the truth that what all this boils down to is primitive tribalism.

It really has nothing to do with racial discrimination at all.

If you want to see real world race war type conditions just live in a neighborhood that is divided down between blacks and latinos.

Any other unrelated groups of people will also get caught up in the storm in one way or another just like the Chinese and Arabs living in hoodville.

Or not. The LA Riots happened in 1992 under Bush the Elder as President and the ever so republican Pete Wilson as governor.

Liberals undoubtedly encourage it, whoever may be in office.

Liberalism by its nature strives to get away from order, towards chaos.

Any movement by the police to bring order to Baltimore is a movement towards order, Liberals oppose it.

Violence, destruction, all that is just the chaos that liberals are openly supporting.

Yeah this type of violent rioting does nothing except give people an opportunity to be thankful they don't live around or near people like that.

There is absolutely no reason to want to live in those types of neighborhoods. Even if you're a struggling immigrant go elsewhere.

For people on the political fence it pushes them way in favor of militarization. This is why Martin Luther King jr wasn't really into violent protest.

I agree the thank goodness I don't live near these Baltimore residents

Definite cause for a militarized state to quell primitive behavior. Who would dare invest with these types of people ? I cant stand these damn looters!

I, a white man, have been detained and questioned after being found to have over $2000 cash on me. This while driving a brand new truck and dressed well. They never did tell me exactly how it's illegal to carry cash...

Cops, pricks that they are, can and do ruin everyone's day if they want to. Anymore I let them "have their fun" then get it thrown out by my lawyer. (Actually I avoid the morons, but sometimes shit happens)

Saying that, I do not weep for this shitbag that apparently crossed the line too many times.

Kevin Williamson has an interesting take on this in a piece he wrote for National Review (conservative rag). He blames the Dems for creating this sort of environment in cities across America:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/41...ng-kevin-d

I'm kinda halfway there on what he's saying, but there are obviously other factors involved as well. The media are as usual involved in the way this mess evolved as well.

Even Obama was upset at how they (the media) tend to exaggerate and use the "shock" factor to stir up controversy & anger/hate across the board in these drive-by news stories. I think it's hard for someone not from the US (or hell even many Americans) to really understand the situation, who's conning who here and/or being played and also how our media loves drama and "undercurrents" that are root causes, when sometimes a lot of this sh*t is just plain opportunistic looting and criminal activity.

Watching the videos of the riots, I'm reminded (as another poster mentioned) how quickly things can fall apart in this country. I was in high school when the 92 riots broke out in LA and remember the video of that truck driver, Reginald Denny, who got pulled out of his truck by rioters and nearly beaten to death.

The idea of police who aren't accountable for their brutality scares me. But the reality of a world without cops scares me more because every now and then (LA, Katrina, and now Baltimore) we get a glimpse of what that world looks like.

Jack Donovan wrote an article Violence is Golden where he touches on some of the same issues:

Quote:When violence comes knocking, we simply make a call, and the police come to “stop” the violence. Few civilians really take the time to think that what we are essentially doing is paying an armed band protection money to come and do orderly violence on our behalf.
...
It is when our ordered violence gives way to disordered violence, as in the aftermath of a natural disaster, that we are forced to see how much we rely on those who maintain order through violence. People loot because they can, and kill because they think they’ll get away with it. Dealing with violence and finding violent men who will protect you from other violent men suddenly becomes a real and pressing concern.

RE: Riots In Baltimore After Death In Police Custody
I feel the article should be quoted in full. Thanks for the reference Akula, great article:

Riot-Plagued Baltimore Is a Catastrophe Entirely of the Democratic Party’s Own Making

Quote:A few weeks ago, there was an election in Ferguson, Mo., the result of which was to treble the number of African Americans on that unhappy suburb’s city council. This was greeted in some corners with optimism — now, at last, the city’s black residents would have a chance to see to securing their own interests. This optimism flies in the face of evidence near — St. Louis — and far — Baltimore, Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco . . .

St. Louis has not had a Republican mayor since the 1940s, and in its most recent elections for the board of aldermen there was no Republican in the majority of the contests; the city is overwhelmingly Democratic, effectively a single-party political monopoly from its schools to its police department. Baltimore has seen two Republicans sit in the mayor’s office since the 1920s — and none since the 1960s. Like St. Louis, it is effectively a single-party political monopoly from its schools to its police department. Philadelphia has not elected a Republican mayor since 1948. The last Republican to be elected mayor of Detroit was congratulated on his victory by President Eisenhower. Atlanta, a city so corrupt that its public schools are organized as a criminal conspiracy against its children, last had a Republican mayor in the 19th century. Its municipal elections are officially nonpartisan, but the last Republican to run in Atlanta’s 13th congressional district did not manage to secure even 30 percent of the vote; Atlanta is effectively a single-party political monopoly from its schools to its police department.

American cities are by and large Democratic-party monopolies, monopolies generally dominated by the so-called progressive wing of the party. The results have been catastrophic, and not only in poor black cities such as Baltimore and Detroit. Money can paper over some of the defects of progressivism in rich, white cities such as Portland and San Francisco, but those are pretty awful places to be non-white and non-rich, too: Blacks make up barely 9 percent of the population in San Francisco, but they represent 40 percent of those arrested for murder, and they are arrested for drug offenses at ten times their share of the population. Criminals make their own choices, sure, but you want to take a look at the racial disparity in educational outcomes and tell me that those low-income nine-year-olds in Wisconsin just need to buck up and bootstrap it?

Black urban communities face institutional failure across the board every day. There are people who should be made to answer for that: What has Martin O’Malley to say for himself? What can Ed Rendell say for himself other than that he secured a great deal of investment for the richest square mile in Philadelphia? What has Nancy Pelosi done about the radical racial divide in San Francisco?

Mychal Denzel Smith, toy radical at The Nation, offered the usual illiterate slogan “f**k the police” and declared of the rioters: “I also hope they break s**t.” Writers at Salon also endorsed violence for its own sake. “I do not advocate non-violence,” Benji Hart affirmed. Most of this can be credited to juvenile posturing, and it should be noted that the rioters in Baltimore mostly are not burning down tax offices or police stations but are in the main looting businesses and carrying out acts of wanton opportunistic vandalism — that’s not a revolt, but a crime spree. Meretricious “black rage” rhetoric notwithstanding, what we have seen in places such as Ferguson and Baltimore is much more ordinarily criminal than political.

But there is a legitimate concern here — from which no one seems to be willing to draw the obvious conclusion: There is someone to blame for what’s wrong in Baltimore.

Would any sentient adult American be shocked to learn that Baltimore has a corrupt and feckless police department enabled by a corrupt and feckless city government? I myself would not, and the local authorities’ dishonesty and stonewalling in the death of Freddie Gray is reminiscent of what we have seen in other cities. There’s a heap of evidence that the Baltimore police department is pretty bad.

This did not come out of nowhere. While the progressives have been running the show in Baltimore, police commissioner Ed Norris was sent to prison on corruption charges (2004), two detectives were sentenced to 454 years in prison for dealing drugs (2005), an officer was dismissed after being videotaped verbally abusing a 14-year-old and then failing to file a report on his use of force against the same teenager (2011), an officer was been fired for sexually abusing a minor (2014), and the city paid a quarter-million-dollar settlement to a man police illegally arrested for the non-crime of recording them at work with his mobile phone. There’s a good deal more. Does that sound like a disciplined police organization to you?

Yes, Baltimore seems to have some police problems. But let us be clear about whose fecklessness and dishonesty we are talking about here: No Republican, and certainly no conservative, has left so much as a thumbprint on the public institutions of Baltimore in a generation. Baltimore’s police department is, like Detroit’s economy and Atlanta’s schools, the product of the progressive wing of the Democratic party enabled in no small part by black identity politics. This is entirely a left-wing project, and a Democratic-party project.

When will the Left be held to account for the brutality in Baltimore — brutality for which it bears a measure of responsibility on both sides? There aren’t any Republicans out there cheering on the looters, and there aren’t any Republicans exercising real political power over the police or other municipal institutions in Baltimore. Community-organizer — a wretched term — Adam Jackson declared that in Baltimore “the Democrats and the Republicans have both failed.” Really? Which Republicans? Ulysses S. Grant? Unless I’m reading the charts wrong, the Baltimore city council is 100 percent Democratic.

The other Democratic monopolies aren’t looking too hot, either. We’re sending Atlanta educators to prison for running a criminal conspiracy to hide the fact that they failed, and failed woefully, to educate the children of that city. Isolated incident? Nope: Atlanta has another cheating scandal across town at the police academy. Who is being poorly served by the fact that Atlanta’s school system has been converted into crime syndicate? Mostly poor, mostly black families. Who is likely to suffer from any incompetents advanced through the Atlanta police department by its corrupt academy? Mostly poor, mostly black people. Who suffers most from the incompetence of Baltimore’s Democratic mayor? Mostly poor, mostly black families — should they feel better that she’s black? Who suffers most from the incompetence and corruption of Baltimore’s police department? Mostly poor, mostly black families.

And it’s the same people who will suffer the most from the vandalism and pillaging going on in Baltimore, too.

The evidence suggests very strongly that the left-wing, Democratic claques that run a great many American cities — particularly the poor and black cities — are not capable of running a school system or a police department. They are incompetent, they are corrupt, and they are breathtakingly arrogant. Cleveland, Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore — this is what Democrats do.

And the kids in the street screaming about “inequality”? Somebody should tell them that the locale in these United States with the least economic inequality is Utah, i.e. the state farthest away from the reach of the people who run Baltimore.

Keep voting for the same thing, keep getting the same thing.

Did you read the article?

Politics are never about who cares more. Or who cares at all. Politics are about *policies*.

It's not about democrats vs republicans. It's about the party's policies.

It's "riot-shaming" to condemn arson? What the fuck am I reading here? I wonder how she'd feel if someone burnt her fucking place down or someone she cared about (if such a person even exists in her life) died in a blaze started by some asshole?

These people are nuts. They really think society's "victims" should get to do whatever they want without repercussion because of patriarchy, white privilege or other bullshit they come up with.

It's becoming utterly crazy.

Raping, pillaging & killing all men and children also had always a place in history.
Also we should stop serial-killing shaming - there is a time and place for everything.

You really can see the French Revolutionary roots of this batshittery. Social Justice Warriors are nothing more than Marxist agitators who dream about violence and applaud it when it's the "right" people doing it against the institutions they hate or people whom they think deserve it.

It's a religion that allows these people to kill their own consciences and justify anything, if they ever had them to begin with.

I love how they ignore the innocent blacks hurt by the rioters and don't give a fuck about the poor whites, Chinese and arabs affected by the destruction. It's all just collateral damage to them in what they view as a war of revenge to right historical wrongs.

These rioters almost murdered a woman and her disabled son via arson.

And here we go:

People wonder why we have a crime problem in the inner-cities? Because psychopathic motherfuckers like this bitch get teaching jobs there and tell the kids this shit. They preach their leftist religion of envy and revenge to young minds.

Does anyone know where she lives. I've got a hammer, planks and nails to make sure the property is secure.

Ugh, it's a shame, Rania looks like she could get it, but instead she's the anti-viagra.

Flying, I'll bet my next paycheck she's somewhere in D.C.
