'the Nomad List', 500 cities ranked on living cost, visa req, Wifi, etc.
This is a cool site made by a Redditor. He/she managed to list 500 cities from all around the world, based on a series of factors:

-Pollution
-Wifi speeds
-Commute times to urban areas
-Monthly rent costs
-Visa requirements
-Weather

Lots of customizations and different listing preferences to find a suitable city, for expats or locals. Recommended for a look!

https://nomadlist.com/?v=2.0

Edit:

There's more customizations, including flight prices, activities, city size. Definitely liking this site.

This is a pretty cool site. Not sure where all the data comes from but a nice way to start looking around.

According to the FAQ:

'It started out as a crowdsourced spreadsheet. That spreadsheet held about 25 cities. That was a great start, but crowdsourced data has by nature challenges with consistency. For example, some people have more expensive taste than others and will tell you the rent in a city is higher than the actual average.

To mitigate this, we've hired city editors to research data by a strict set of guidelines. That means I now have more consistent data. I also have way more cities than before. Since the start we've added over 500 of the biggest cities in the world and continue to add more every day.'

They hired city editors, wow. I wonder what the end game is to monetize it? Some redditors just like doing cool shit for free.

Looks like it leads to some nomad sight and to sign up it is a $50 one time fee.

Anyone sign up? Curious about the value. If it is good, it would be worth it.

Yeah I signed up a few months ago.

It gives you access to a Slack group where you can connect with other digital nomads in your area, e.g. #Phuket, #ChiangMai, etc.

I've met a few cool people through it so to me it was worth the $50.

But I haven't used it beyond the first few weeks, mainly because my location only has a few members.

I imagine if you're in a hotspot like Barcelona or Ho Chi Minh, it'll be a lot more sticky and valuable.

VV, always dropping good knowledge and helping others, thanks brother.

Interesting thing on safety in this search tool. It seems when it is not woman safe or LGBT safe then it tends to have an overall unsafe score. Not that safety should be the primary driver or concern. Especially, when some places I have been to had an unsafe score, but I felt perfectly fine there.

How accurate is the data regarding the cost of living? I can pretty much confirm Bangkok and Vienna. However, Bangkok only if you don't include the cost of nightlife.

In my experience so far with using this nomad site is that the data is somewhat mixed. Generally reliable but I have found that I can typically find the services for less than what is mentioned in the guide. I have been to Mexico City, Santiago Chile, and I am going to the Yucatan in a couple of week and I checked it out here.

I would highly recommend another website by the same guy http://remoteok.io for remote jobs.

When you click on the live link on that site it goes to the nomadlist.

I wouldnt call the guy a 'redditor'. Very impressive guy who was a semi-famous dutch dnb producer (100mil+ views on youtube channel) before building several successful and profitable apps. Quite the resume.

Appreciate that, thanks bro.

LGBT safe...WTF does that even mean?

I've found that a lot of these startup/entrepreneurial communities are ultra liberal.

I learned that the hard way.

Now when I go to conferences/meetups of a business nature I keep my mouth shut unless it's about business.

To quote Vincent, "I've found that a lot of these startup/entrepreneurial communities are ultra liberal."

In other words, not liberal - ie, not "free-thinking." But "PC" consciousness raising, ie, fascist.

Or to be more precise, "Gleichshaltung," the born-again Nazi doctrine of enforced coordination of social Belief. (Compare, "SJW," yada, yada, yada.) This aims to keep the reign of Diktat pure and unthreatened by deviant "thinking."

Ultra liberal... But in a leftist ultra fascist kind of way. Life's not supposed to be easy, I guess.

My thought here is, all these girly paradises on the list, Bangkok, Prague, Natal, and the mods and members in this forum is SJW LGBT TARDS? WTF? Any alternatives for us hetero cunt-impalers who work remotely, maybe would like to expand our portfolio of Internet hustles, and just shoot the breeze and exchange war stories with some brothers in arms? There has to be a niche for us here.

I've been doing this for a few years now in ASEAN, and I have to say the only thing I'm missing is like minded people, MRA/PUA, working online. So many people living in Asia are just irreparable losers, lowlives, miscreants, pensioners (not that I really mind old timers once in a while, but...), and the like. When you do find someone cool to hang out with, sometimes it seems like there's a 50/50 chance it's someone's last day.

That's funny because I was thinking how cool it would be to start an "all boy's club" of sorts with a focus on business/entrepreneurship.

It would be all male, full of red pill hustlers, and you'd have the freedom to call a spade a spade.

Kind of like a business/mastermind version of the Dynamite Circle, which is a cool group by the way, but definitely with an annoyingly leftist bent.

Too much startup building and not enough weightlifting I suppose. tard

This was my problem with Asia, too.

Great living and easy women...but barely a cool dude to be found.

It was like you had leftist english teachers or lecherous old men, and nothing in between.

And those digital nomad meetups...some of the strangest people I've ever encountered. None of them seemed to have any interest in hitting the town and picking up chicks.

Finding an honest wingman is a tough job really. I agree we ought to have a dedicated site, as the meetup section here gets overlooked.

This thread is technically a dupe.

I was on the fence about this site the last time it was posted, but it's completely worthless at this point.

Mike over at Danger & Play said something really funny in a podcast recently about the self-described "nomads", and that's that they don't really make any money.

And this list is now a painful indication of that. The prices for most cities have dropped drastically over the past six months or so to the point that they no longer reflect a reasonable standard of living.

Who the fuck wants to live in India with a $250 monthly budget, especially while trying to run a successful online business? Yet there are several Indian cities in that price range with 70%+ ratings.

Yea, the whole "digital nomad" movement is a big circle jerk honestly. A lot of guys blogging about their awesome location independent lives...when the reality is they're barely scraping buy.

I met very few people 'killing it' online in Asia. They were usually doing something shady...porn, or gambling.

Truth is it's a lot harder to make a living online than people make it out to be. It's a global marketplace. If you don't have some extremely niche skills or products, you get eaten alive.

Enigma, any chance you can point to which podcast that might have been?

It is always nice to have a light shined on people's claims.

Not saying Nomad lifestyle is like a MLM scheme, but if most Nomads make money by selling the dream to others who want to be nomads it is a bit sad.

Hmmm.. Ok, so let's just make it then. I have a domain, what should I put there? mrgreen

- Forum for digital nomad liberal males and anyone else interested who doesn't get special snowflake feelings hurt by other people's opinions and stories
- Calendar for meetups w/map + articles
- Chat
Erm..

Chick Magnet, you have a good point, but I think you're exaggerating. You need an education or some special (online) skill or a great idea, you need to be responsible and good at what you do, but you don't need be some exception with a genius business and a lot of money or criminal/semi legit. In my profession fulltime freelancers in the top half earn $50-100K a year on average. That's not too bad, especially when you can spend them where you want. I'm helped by the fact that my currency is high value now, but other Western countries aren't that far behind for good programmers, lawyers, translators, web designers, writers etc. on average. But sure, some people may earn less and find that they don't get by very well, especially if they're unrealistic, highly competitive market, low price market etc.

I have a frequent fliers gold card, I live in and go to exotic countries with women and culture I like, stay at 4 star hotels in big cities and quality houses and apartments in low income places, eat healthy and good food, even if I'm not wealthy. I wouldn't say I'm killing it career or salary wise, but I'm definitely progressing professionally and earning good money for a 40 hour work week. I feel a lot better quality of life and value for money living in low expense tropical countries and staying mainly with my family and friends mainly at Christmas and in the summertime in northern Europe. When you get a little older you realize your family isn't going to be there forever and it's a gift to have them, so suddenly it becomes different to stay with them. Nice list but the cost of living for a local resident for the places on here that I've been really just covers the basics: rent, utilities and home cooking. In a lot of cases I think you need to get a roommate to live for that cheap. When I filter by nightlife I get a weird list but at least Miami and New York are at the top...I wonder how they are doing that? Each dude ranks his own city??
