Stylish Dress Shoes and Boots for the Rain
Hey Guys!

Anyone have advice on good buys for stylish dress shoes or boots that function well in a walk-oriented city where it rains a lot?

I go back home to get the rest of my clothes next week, but any good tips would be great so that I can make the purchase off of Amazon.com.

Have had to wear sneakers with nice dress clothes this past week, which I'm not a fan of. Thx!

This is pretty sexy.

Really I would just buy any high quality leather boot or shoes that lace fairly tight. Then put a few coats of shoe wax on them before you wear them out. After that just maintain and apply wax whenever they need them and that should water proof them sufficiently.

Good quality leather chukkas. Keep them polished, put on a topy and enjoy.

I will be going into winter 4 with mine and they are still brand new, no wet feet and I live in Vancouver.

Downfall is they are not 'stylish' but just a damn good boot. Stylish? Perhaps a Chelsea boot.

RE: Stylish Dress Shoes and Boots for the Rain
You only need to look for two things:
- rubber sole
- storm welt. Check the following photo - notice that the welt (join) contains a piece of leather between the sole and the upper part of the shoe: http://www.rawrdenim.com/wp-content/uplo...ickers.png

Shoes made with regular Goodyear welts have a much deeper join which is not as waterproof. See this example: http://mydenimlife.com/blog/wp-content/u...odyear.jpg

You can use a special wax called dubbin to waterproof leather shoes. The leather will look very dull/matte for a couple of days while it absorbs the dubbin. After that you can polish them as usual. I use dubbin about once per month on mine. Apply it with an old toothbrush so you can get into all of the joins. You don't need to use much... one tin should last a few years.

I would also recommend that you have two pairs of shoes so you don't have to wear them on consecutive days. It's better to leave them dry for a day in between wearing.

This is especially important I find with leather shoes in general. Of course use cedar shoe trees, but even then after a long day the shoe needs some time to air out. If you move through your shoe collection throughout the week you will really notice a difference in the feel of a shoe. And the shoes last far longer.

DaveR- Show some pics of what kind of rubber sole shoes you like.
I am open to rubber soles, I have just never found a pair that I like. Most look like 'retirement shoes' to me, but I need a pair for Vancouvers long rainy season.

One more vote for rubber soles. Leather soaks through and wears much quicker when wet.

I'm partial to the To Boot NY low profile rubber soles and stacked leather heel. They also make a bunch of shoes, I just prefer boots.

RE: Stylish Dress Shoes and Boots for the Rain
I have two pairs similar to the following for heavy snow and rain. These ones are with a standard welt but mine are storm welted: http://www.loake.co.uk/bystyle/boots/hyde.html
Loake is at the lower end of handmade shoes.

For cleared snow and light rain I have a two pairs of Church's and three by smaller brands from Italy. All rubber soled but standard Goodyear welts.

That would probably be overkill for most people, but I spend a lot of time in St. Petersburg where the snow cover lasts over half the year.

Not really stylish, but peacocking as hell in Florida at least where nobody else wears them are LL Bean full length duck boots

They are my go-to footwear during tropical storms. I wear the boots, shorts, and a light quick drying shirt and hit the bars. Always get girls coming up to me to comment and ask about them. Keep your feet totally dry too

Crockett & Jones and absolutely badass. The boot is what Bond wears in the movies of course.
Any idea how much they would set you back?

I just had a look through their website for the first time! Amazing collection of shoes. No idea on the price, but these shoes here have me salivating.

If you are dealing with serious rain you want serious boots like this. If you wear boots like this commit to the serious outdoorsman look and role. This isn't the most stylish route, but you can sell the practicality with competence and confidence. Maybe some beta hipsters might be around going for the same practical angle, but you can win the bar if the rest of you sells the look as incidental to what you do.

Make sure your details work with this get up too. Carry an actual zippo and keep it fueled. Most importantly dress and act like the man you are.

C&J Handgrade usually cost about 500 Sterling / 800 USD. Their standard range cost 300-400 Sterling.

So you sort of go around looking like this guy with the shorts and boots?

What is the consensus on Frye? Saw a pair in Nordstrom Rack for $150, the Dawson Lug model. Thinking of pulling the trigger but there’s differing opinions on quality and this model is made in China. They look and feel great tho.
