RE: Survival TV Show: Alone
I am so glad to see Dave back.

And I'm not surprised to see the MS actress tap out in the same circumstances as last time. Her first appearance she tapped out as soon as the free fish from her gill net dried up. This time they showed her scavenging for onions on day 9, so no fish there.

Time for the MS act! It can't be missing the step-daughter again this time, so it has to be MS and I have to fully commit!

Also, am I wrong or is this the first season where anyone actually got a kill with the bow?

RE: Survival TV Show: Alone
This season is really shaping up to be one of the most interesting ones.

Not too many bad luck location choices, everyone's skills are decent enough to survive, and almost all the struggle is mental.

The latest tap-out because of getting depressed by the colour of the tarp they'd chosen? Hilarious.

The incredibly angry man and his crusade to drive the mice in his shelter crazy? Also great.

Randy has a bad ass house. I think dave is a huge pussy for crying on camera about eating animals.

Ya, I was disappointed by him doing that. Shut up and eat them, Dave!

Late to this thread, but intrigued by the series, which season would you recommend I download first?

I agree with all of your assessments. This season is shaping up great so far. I think based on what i've seen from this and Naked and Afraid the Loneliness and mental aspect is the greatest challenge. I think all of them have built great shelters and so far food sources are kinda okay.. but alas. Winter is coming and we all know this is where they will start dropping like flies.

RE: Survival TV Show: Alone
Finished the current series. Really amazing ending.

Without too many spoilers, it was truly 'manly' in a very old-school way, coming down to who was willing to suffer the longest for their family.

The winner's speech really got me in the feels.

There are no cameramen with these contestants. They are completely alone and film everything themselves. They have an emergency beacon if they are seriously hurt and have a tap out call they can make when they want to go home. It's more real than the show Alaskan bush family which was totally fake and all lies.

Yeah, I think after 5 seasons and 8 pages in this thread people pretty much figured that out by now.

Also, why is your name Carol?

I was happy for the winner, but honestly he had an unfair advantage. No spoilers, but those of you that know who it was can guess what I mean. He sucked, and that advantage carried him through.

He was tough, and he outlasted the second place guy. That's always going to happen in this series, barring sudden accidents.

And if I get your point, they weren't surprised by going on the show, everyone could have prepared in the same way.

Sure. Totally. Still sucks though.

Season 6 just started.

Location is in the Arctic north of Canada, around Great Slave Lake. Looks like it will be seriously brutal weather.

6 is great so far, seriously tough place to survive alone.

Wow that guy with all the fish just quit cause he was bored?

He had like 20 lbs of fish left and a good cabin and everything was fine. Was just like "well I'm doing pretty good, accomplished what I wanted to. Might as well go home now".

Can't believe they pulled that crazy girl cause of her weight loss, she looked fine and had food, and was only 40-something days in! Those med-check motherfuckers clearly never heard of Jesus...

They sign various agreements related to med checks so they can't lose too much weight or they get pulled.

I'm enjoying this season but I can't be the only one who finds the editing a waste of time. Way too much recap and the previews show unneccessary spoilers.

So in a really bad situation where things wont be coming back online and all sorts of things start coming down the line, how well do any of you think you would do?

Me personally as long as I have my health, some weapons, tools and food I should be ok in the short term. No idea about long term!

The editing in this season has definitely started to edge into the standard US documentary style.

Which is stupid, they have more than enough footage to not need to re-use so much. And also much more dramatic stuff has been happening this time, some quieter moments would be a nice comparison.

If you had watched any of the other seasons, you'd know that is par for the course.

I know it's not realistic, but I'd love to see a future contestant just build a straight up small cabin. Imagine being in such a good position from a food standpoint, that you get a smaller one of these going while you're bored:
