Stretch Marks
I've been getting some nasty stretch marks recently from lifting. Do you guys have any tips for lessening them? Will they eventually go away?

RE: Stretch Marks
Mine never went away on their own. You can try using something like

Bio-Oil Specialist Skincare Oil

or other stretch mark oils/creams.

They should work anywhere. You got stretch marks on your stomach? That's a bit uncommon for lifters.

RE: Stretch Marks
Interesting point captian_shane. I could probably just get tan to make them disappear.

May not really work depending on your complexion. I'm a dark skinned black guy, so my stretch marks look like tiger stripes because they're lighter than the normal skin. On a really light white guy it's the reverse. Your stretch marks are usually darker, or slightly reddish, and when you tan they look lighter.

Coconut oil before you workout may save you from making them worse.

RE: Stretch Marks
Unfortunately they usually don't go away.

You could try some Tretinoin Cream which will help some.

Some laser treatment offered at a Dermatologist's office can be of help.

A Dermaroller will get the job done. Buy the original one, not a shitty cheap knock-off. However, since your marks are new you can get rid of them just by applying things such as wheat germ oil and shea butter. Again, buy the real stuff.

RE: Stretch Marks
When you get stretch marks it's a result of the dermis tearing and the deeper layers of skin showing through, so they can't ever go away. The colour will fade with time, but I still have fairly purple ones left over that I got at around 17-18 (I'm now 31). At the time I tried lots of things such as bio-oil, cocoa-butter, and prescription retin-a, but none of them did anything that just giving them time wouldn't have done.

I honestly think that the best strategy is just to embrace them as signs that you're growing and motivation to make the body you have worth the stretch marks. Fuck wasting your time and money worrying about them and applying all sorts of creams.

RE: Stretch Marks
I have read that taking high dosage supplements - multi, vitamin C at doses of 5000 mg + as well as plenty of zinc and vitamin E (200IU+) - lets the skin not develop them as you go through weight gains and losses.

Plenty of pregnant women have experienced it. Also women with 80-10-10 diets and massive doses of nutrients experience no stretch marks at all. These are obviously indicators that our bodies' skin has massive regenerative powers.

Now - getting rid of those is more difficult vs. not making them happen. Preventing them via supplements and nutrient dense food is one thing. Eliminating them is another matter - naturally it is likely extremely hard or next to impossible.

Don't think it matters much to a man unless you are a male model.

RE: Stretch Marks
I have a few, and I'm not remotely close to being big at the moment. I never think about it at all.

I was surprised the other day when a buddy mentioned how he thinks stretch marks are so ugly and how it ruins men's physiques.

I was caught totally off-guard with this mindset. Really?

It's like the closest thing to scars man. I remember back in elementary school every time you got a wound from recess you would be showing all the other guys and you seriously hoped it would become a scar.

I wouldn't ever deliberately seek to get scars, but the point is made. In this context, stretch marks are a testament of blood, sweat, and tears in the gym. Not to show off to others, but to remind yourself of the pain you've gone through to get where you are at today.

RE: Stretch Marks
I had them where the anterior deltoids meet the pectorals a few years ago.

They went away on their own without me noticing as they dissipated.

RE: Stretch Marks
You can prevent them by using good moisturizer in your skin like coconut and rice bran oil. I've never had the issue of stretch marks at my biggest since I always have had good moisturized skin.

Prevention is the key. Going forward you take the steps to not make them amplify or grow in the amount.
