He looks amazing at 50.

Based on that last photo it's probably a very good bet that he's on steroids again. I don't really care what other people do to their bodies - and I'm certainly not ruling out I might be looking into TRT in another 5-10 years (generally in normal doses nowhere near steroids in terms of aiding muscle growth, if I've understood it correctly?) - but it's pretty much a given that any who's gotten "jacked" with hefty aid of drugs is going to shrink to much smaller proportions once they eventually have to give up the steroids, even the ones who keep lifting and staying in shape.

Of those before and after photos of the bodybuilders, the first, third and fourth guys look like they shrank down to completely average, infrequently exercising male proportions (and the fourth guy got fat as well). I'll leave out Mr. Wheeler since his situation has been explained. The last guy still looks in very good shape, even if he's lost muscle mass down to what is achievable through natural means.

There is some correlation, but you need to remember that just because someone has big biceps doesn't mean that (1) he is in shape, or (2) he has the willpower necessary to go the distance in life. I see a lot of this in the manosphere. Too much emphasis on lifting weights and taking supplements, and not enough on all-around fitness.

Exactly. I've met plenty of men with Alpha Bodies and Beta Minds. Actors, Bodybuilders, Rugby League Players, Gay Men. You have to develop strength in both spheres.

Was at the pub the other night and there was a team of rugby players all in FckH8 shirts even though I couldn't see any obvious Feminist Overlords in sight: I took a pic with them wearing one to make my mates who know how I really think piss themselves.

RE: When athletes let themselves go
You're missing the glaringly obvious.

Your body is only as good as you keep it. Drugs and going balls to the wall on heavy workouts several days a week, sometimes twice a day for months and years takes its toll.

You abuse alcohol, you liver, kidneys, skin and overall organ health will deteriorate. Same goes for those who give up everything to get that perfect physique.

Everything you put into your body the stomach, intestines, heart, liver and kidneys need to work. Lots of guys have died through kidney problems and I have done extensive research by myself and alongside Doctors because I have a very real kidney problem.

Once they start to go your shelf life is reduced to months or 2 years and remember they do not have regenerative qualitives like the liver. I'm not sure why so many guys at the top of their game ignore this but its their loss.

I haven't even mentioned the problems with joints and tendons.

RE: When athletes let themselves go
Some cultures appear to me to have a different relationship to athletics and fitness than I was raised with (west coast white American middle class). Instead of believing in some level of lifelong fitness for everyone, there is a strict binary: you are either an athlete or you are not. If you aren't then you don't do anything.

I'm thinking about the latino/Central American immigrant community, and the working-class African American community, especially the women. You'll see jacked, athletic black guys while their female counterparts are obese and soft. Latin guys may not be jacked but they stay trim--maybe work, soccer, and I used to see quite a few at the gym. The young latina moms turn into potato sacks. In each case the binary seems to play out as "sport/fitness is a men's thing."

Obviously with the examples in this thread we aren't talking about the same gender dynamic, but some of the examples at least are also from different cultures and I just wonder if a similarly stark binary is at work. I'd be interested to hear comments from guys in or with a better understanding of other cultures' attitudes because I am very much speculating from the outside.

This is not a good example for the simple fact that Mr Schwarzenegger had multiple heart surgeries. For a guy who has had mutiple heart operations, the fact is that in the picture above-right he looks fantastic. He's definitely the best looking 'cardiac' patient I've ever seen and he is still healthier looking that most people his age, despite the overwhelming challenge of trying to exercise with a buggered up ticker.

I can't really judge Naseem, he did go through a horrible car accident that probably leaves him unable to workout.

Injuries suck ass, and can happen to anyone. No need to hate. Even still, his wife looks like she cannot handle it. Sucks for her. She leaves him and feels like a dirtbag, but if she stays she's stuck with a fat goofball.

Better to develop a consistent habit that lasts overtime.

Push yourself in the gym, but don't figuratively kill yourself in there.

3-4 times a week is enough.

Play sports or swim to keep your body guessing and your fitness in good shape.

Get lean, put on muscle, and stay that way.

As far as the body builders go, it's largely artificial and the body cannot handle the abuse required to maintain that body (drugs/wear and tear) long term. It like anything else, you drive with your foot to the floor all the time, something is going to blow. There are a lot of natural bodybuilders well into their 60's that still look good, moderation is key, which is why I switched to full body workouts like rowing and cycling/MTB 15 years ago ( I'm 60).

I don't think you can get that fat unless your eating gets out of hand. What you eat matters a lot more than how much you exercise as far as getting fat.

He's short, so that makes putting on the pounds easier too.

We always think strong outside = strong inside. The opposite is often the case. Other examples include Mike Tyson.

I've accidentally misread this thread as "When atheists let themselves go", but that wouldn't make sense because they were already "gone" in the first place.

All that being said, the psychological weaknesses of people who obviously look after themselves are generally minor compared to that of the obese, (though, obviously, Not All Swole Are Like That).

A built guy might be a pussy and lack self-confidence, but an obese girl lacks self control, hates herself, hates you, hates society and will actively try to sabotage anyone she deems 'better' than them because 'they deserve it'.

It's only been a little over two years since I graduated and I've already seen some better-looking people get pudgy and gross.

You hit the nail on the head.

My brother was an all state fullback. He was jacked in high school. He just went to school instead of playing college ball (had a number of decent schools in the area calling my home phone about him). He has gained at least 60-70 pounds since high school. Works an office job now and can no longer do a pull up.

I was a fat fuck growing up but busted my ass as a late bloomer. Played college hockey and continue to play in tournaments against other ex college guys. I work a job on my feet and have still never peaked in either sports or fitness.

The problem is that people assume their peak is much lower than it really is and hit the slope like a snowball.

Nah, it's Believers who are gone from reality testing.

But it's more important for you to be happy than for me to be right, so unless religious people say something disparaging about realism I shut up .

RE: When athletes let themselves go
There have been days where I couldn't be arsed going to the gym after work or weekends and I just ate shit all day. The lifestyle athletes lead would be depressing. For girls you cannot even go on birth control or have much of a sex life and the guys need to be at the gym early, have their diets keyed in by nutritionist and if they deviate they can lose their spot.

Imagine going for a pub meal, seeing all the delicious meals but knowing you cannot have that delicious meat dish or a nice pasta based meal. Fuck that.

Athletes are always training to get those times and numbers all the time and doubly-so when competition is a few months off. No wonder the athletes village is an outright fuckfest at every competition.

RE: When athletes let themselves go
I used to live next door to an NHL player. One evening the neighbors got together and he came over. We were eating snacks (nuts) and drinking beers. He drank one beer and are some of the snacks, then said he better stop, he had a game the next day. He said he was going to have a big pasta meal. Not that relevant , but interesting to see the inside life of a professional athlete.

I saw him once during the off season. He said he was bored out of his fucking mind, couldn't wait for the season to start. He said it's hard to not sleep til noon ever day. Oh, he was taking fighting lessons during the summer. Some boxer was giving him lessons, and he was watching hockey fight videos. He said its key to pull the other guys jersey halfway off so he can't punch back.

When I say this I refer to actual athletes on the world stage and not the typical college/University sports teams. Even D1 college sports.

Some train all day or twice a day. Meal times, lack of alcohol, lack of time and girls like to be social with their friends, family and boyfriends outside of their schedules. With regards to guys they would meet going out or the likes of Tinder/POF.

Not all athletes are pro and need jobs.

Its basically normal flakey attitude of a woman combined with an actual busy schedule. When an athlete girl says she is busy it isn't because she is on facebook or dicking around with her friends.

Unless she is a total slut which most of them turn into come game day. Then my knowledge and experience of these girls goes *poof* Laugh

Never girlfriend/wife a female athlete.
