What would you do if born in great wealth, but not THE greatest?
Common advice on the forum here generally focus on career first and foremost. But what would you do if you came from wealth? But not billionaires yet.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/articl...d-all.html

Quote:"The man in question was Nat Rothschild - the 35-year-old scion of the wealthy banking dynasty, one-time black sheep of the family, and now a rising star in his own right.
Earlier this month, the New York Times highlighted his extraordinary metamorphosis from playboy to hedge fund prince, and tipped him as "a kingmaker in his own right, and an investor who some say may become the richest Rothschild of them all".

Now he obviously had a lot of connections to begin with.

But imagine that you already have a million dollars by age 22 and very wealthy parents. Say net worth low 9 figures, who will help and support you if you want to open your own business.

How would you live? Would you endlessly chase girls and travel until you get bored? Would you learn about investing? Would go to university and everything? Would you work for other companies to learn, and ultimately pursue your own company?

Pretty much. We already know the answer to that:

I don't have any experience with being a trust fund kid. If you've earned your low 9 figures yourself then you've built up personal contacts along the way to help you start new businesses. Just be sure the spread the money around so you're former employees will be eager to work with you again.

Quote:How would you live? Would you endlessly chase girls and travel until you get bored?

Multiple houses, travel often. Lots of time with friends and family. Only chasing girls will get old quickly. Charity work.

Quote:Would you learn about investing?

When your net worth gets that high, you learn about investing. Otherwise you'll be easily taken advantage of in investment schemes. A good amount of your time is spent managing your "stuff". Nobody else will do as good of a job as you will.

@Cr33pin and Max James.
That is a possibility but suppose you are intelligent and curious. What would you learn or do?

An interesting documentary about this is 'Born Rich' made by Jamie Johnson.

I don't know that I'd live any differently than I do now. I know that sounds cliche and insincere, but aside from paying off a few bills and helping my family, I'm pretty much doing everything I want to do now.

I already taunt minimum wage workers, snapping my fingers at them, talking down to them. I guess with more money, I'd go to strip clubs and torture the dancers there. No more respectful conversation, no more doing some fancy bathing thing before getting up close and personal; my balls would smell like burnt limburger cheese and I'd say, "hey, if you do that thing where you vibrate your lips against my nut sack again, there's an extra $20 in it for ya." Then, I'd see how long she could hold her breath. It's really fun around the holidays because strippers are desperate for cash to support their kids and guitarist/boyfrien--uh, to pay for their college education. Yeah, that's it. Every time you wave a $20 in their faces, you see "that would buy Skylar another set of strings and a Happy Meal for little Billy" as they're calculating how much they'd keep after paying the house.

That's a weird question. Is becoming an ultra-billionaire that big of a priority for anybody sane?

I'd probably take a few million off the top and travel for a long while, and reinvest the rest where I can't touch it and live off the interest in perpetuity.

If I then feel like fucking off some more I'd probably be a permanent student or something.

You "taunt" minimum wage employees and would "torture" strippers? I'm guessing Daddy paid for college and you were too busy matching Sperry's to salmon colored khakis to bother supporting yourself.

RE: What would you do if born in great wealth, but not THE greatest?
First of all you picked one of the richest people in the world for your thread.

The Rothschilds are so rich, that most of their wealth has left the Fortune lists. Many people in NYC in asset management know that the family has more than 1000 billions - they are essentially trillionaires. They have been billionaires in the 1850s.

What it feels like when growing up like that depends on the family. Some let you go through your own hell, neglect or worse by own family, sadistic British elite schools etc. It's certainly different growing up like that than earning it yourself. Those two things cannot be compared. When you are born into it, then it's usually tied up to a greater degree and you keep on managing it or are not even given access to it to a full degree.

When you create the wealth yourself, then it's something else, but you appreciate it more.

When you're poor, the demons that attack you attack your body (cold, hunger, and sickness).

When you're rich, the demons that attack you attack your mind (depression, self-loathing, liberalism, SJW).

With that said, i'd probably do more charity work and become a benefactor to a small church community.

Shalom Alechem!

I wouldn't doubt it. The US is worth something like 230 trillion in total assets so while the Rothschild net worth sounds obscene it would probably be like them owning New Jersey or something. Even then it's probably too much for them to fully liquidate without fucking up the market somehow.

Just read your post - you sound one of those morons who kick those below and lick asses above - true psychopaths and weak ones at that.

IF you treat minimum wage workers as beneath you, but don't have enough cash to taunt strippers with 20-100$, then it tells me clearly that your plans of world-domination have not moved forward sufficiently.

It brings us to an important point : "How would each of us behave when having 100 mio. $+ at his disposal?"

If your idea of life is to torment those who have less money, then congratulations - you are on your way to become a full-blown sociopath complete with an animal torture chamber and maybe even a dungeon for hooker vivisection.

However this is not a forum of psychopaths and future serial killers, although there are elite schools which train those traits within the political class:

http://thedailybanter.com/2015/09/i-went...d-cameron/

Quote:Places like Oxford and Cambridge breed politicians, bankers and Prime Ministers – invariably white men from extraordinary privilege who have been molded from birth to rule over everyone else. Peculiar clothing, accent and aristocratic breeding are necessary to succeed at the top end of the social hierarchy, and bizarre, fetishized clubs within an already the already elitist system serve to put the finishing touches to the David Camerons and George Osbornes of the British power structure. Cameron was part of the notorious ‘Bullingdon Club’, where burning a £50 note in front of a homeless person was part of the hazing process required to get in. Elitism and breeding isn’t always sufficient to be accepted by Britain’s ruling class. One must present adequate disdain for the poor to be truly welcomed by the country’s nobility.

And people think that men like David Cameron have great "compassion" for the common people or "care" about the refugees. What a ridiculous idea.

Oh - keep in mind that most of those guys are not even the upper money class - they are the scientific, political and managerial elite. Of course - even they are very rich by conventional standards.

This actually brings me to an interesting question.

If you had enough means to actually make a legitimate difference in the world, but lacked the network necessary to do so - would you make compromises to your moral fibre (e.g. burning money in front of a homeless person) in order to obtain valuable resources that would be able to help those people?

Sorta of like the old question would you kill a person to save 10 kind of thing.

I personally can't say what I would do if I was in the 1% of wealth. I've never been wealthy and never been close to anyone who was so I have zero experience first or secondhand with it. I know a lot of them go into anthropology - and a lot become hyper-hedonists. Like anything else it likely has a lot to do with your environment, how you were brought up, and who you surround yourself with that influences your lifestyle and pursuits.

Easy. Build a self sufficient compound near a 2nd or 3rd tier college town....you know those minor campuses in towns of say 10 to 20 thousand

1. Use my money to become a large local university donor to by continued access to campus, perhaps establishing an interview based scholarship for each sorority.
2. Use my money to corrupt municipal officials and police, making me immune to prosecution like a modern day Boss Hogg
3. Employ illegals to work on my mini farm that supplys my food in my compound
4. Spend the summer and late fall camping, hunting and fishing on the lands of my private compound

Allright I can say that the situation described applies to me, which maybe could mean that maybe I should have posted this in lifestyle section. Many liked this post, but at the same time, in other topics, mock the absence of class and culture in Arab countries. Hypocrite!
Don't compare me with oil Arabs Dodgy.

For now I put up smokescreens, do maybe one more internship, then go on a year long gap year, and then perhaps either go in a career that complements the family business or go in business with younger relatives (already, but it has to go from a lifestyle business to a serious business at that point in my life).

In the end I have to stick close to myself. I know quite a lot of very rich kids and most go in business themselves. Going in a career that helps with the family business is good, I see it happening sometimes, but takes a certain kind of personality I think.

Being an analyst at a major bank, working 90 hours a week, sounds too shitty in my position.

If I was born into that kind of money, knowing the kind of person I was when I was young, I probably would have died of a drug overdose in my late teens or early 20s. I would be surrounded by luxury and women, but just as dead regardless.
