Canadians are known to have a chip on their shoulders, at least when it comes to relating to their power neighbor to the south. Most Canadian men are traditionally blue-collar, and those who are college educated are indoctrinated with highly liberal/marxist ideology.

Based on StatsCanada, number of hours worked in all industries in December was 600,000,000. 450,000 was based in the service industry, 150,000 in trades/construction. Apparently we're more than lumberjacks and rig workers.

Quote:Like in every cult there's not much room for honest analysis and introspective about their own precarious existence. So they grow up craddle-to-grave believing to be unique snowflakes. I am not saying that is bad or good, it probably has to be that way in order for them to have any sort of separate national identity at all (as well as to keep huge ass Quebec from separating from them), otherwise they would just become a 51 state.

Yes, yes, yes, one could make a real argument that they are currently in a better position than many other western countries since their multicultural welfare-based ("chill") socialism seemed to have worked for them so far. But to sit here and argue that their relatively trouble-free path up to this point is somehow also guaranteed perpetually, while at the same time blindly if slowly replicating much of socio-political blueprint of Sweden, is an act of cognitive dissonance of the highest order.[quote]

Proof that we're emulating Sweden? Stats please, policy proposals, need numbers not anecdotes. 25,000 Syrian refugees made up primarily of families is a drop in the ocean compared to the 280,000 skilled/post grad educated immigrants arriving in Canada annually from all over the world.

Sweden has created whopping total of zero net jobs over the course of 50 years. Of course uneducated refugees can't integrate, the stifling socialism of Northern Europe is a closed system and non friendly to capitalism and business creation. We're anything but Sweden. We have one of the lowest effective corporate and small business taxes in the OECD at 26%. Starting a business or a franchise in the non Quebec part of Canada is only limited by the amount of financing one can obtain for the brick and mortar and franchise license fees.

So far, you guys have done a good job with finding quality immigrants. I give props for that.

The problem is that you also have some of the lowest birthrates in the world.

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/tables-tableaux...5b-eng.htm

Furthermore, you cannot rely on immigration forever. It's just a band-aid. It's very likely you'll run out of quality immigrants to import as conditions around the world change. And if your fucked up SJW politicians let in hundreds of thousands of "refugees" (read: ISIS) while systematically targeting natives who defend themselves, it's just a matter of time before you go the way of Western Europe.

Certainly, it's not over for Canada yet. But judging from the types of politicians you guys elect, and their policies, you have less than 10 years to clean your act up.

You boys live in America, a country governed by a president named Barack Obama Hussein. I will let you think about that for a second!

So we Canadians have a chip on our shoulder and Americans don't? LOL I always got a kick out of American tourists in Europe wearing the maple leaf on their baseball caps.

I am not muslim, so I could not care less what you say about them. Recently, we have had muslim attacks in Toronto. Happy now!

Muslims aren't a concern for me in Canada, our sinking loonie is.

RE: Justin Trudeau is a cuck clown
We can't expect to live in hermetically sealed societies. The history of the world can be seen as the history of population movements.

I'd be willing to guess that the vast majority of the posters here come from immigrant backgrounds of one form or another. The people posting on this forum are not Aboriginal tribesmen from the outback (I assume!), Amazonian Indians, African pygmies, or North American Iroquois.

When it comes to immigration or migration, the issue is one of degree, and the rate at which newcomers can be assimilated or absorbed.

If migratory peoples can be absorbed leisurely and without destabilizing a society, then it may arguably be seen as natural. If they cannot be absorbed leisurely, and instead carve out cantons and destabilize a country, then it is not good.

This latter situation seems to be happening in some European countries, and it should be condemned, of course.

But I'm not yet seeing anything even close to that level of threat in Canada. Not yet, anyway. The sultan's army is not at the gates of Vienna.

Western societies will survive if they deserve to survive. If they can't respond to the challenges of falling birthrates, gender antagonisms, feminism, and all the other social ills, then I wonder if we should shed too many tears on their behalf.

RE: Justin Trudeau is a cuck clown
The native home of the digger wasp is also the home of its natural predator.

Canada's tradition (before Trudeau senior raped it and forced bleach down its throat) was that of the Red Tory. The hardworking conservative who nonetheless believed in taking care of one's own. The American cowboy doesn't survive on his own in Canada; in the frozen north you need a community, and during the long winter months you'd BETTER get along with everyone, or else you'll be kicked out into the cold.

This is about moral, K-type discipline, not r-type socialism, but it can be easily infected by the communist bug.

America has been a hotbed of rebellion, and later communism, from the get go, which is why it's so naturally resistant to it. To really dumb it down, you still have the first amendment here because of the second amendment. In Canada you have no such right, and freedom of speech hasn't existed there for quite some time.

The election of Trudeau was a death knell for Canada, piece by piece it's going to be sold out to China, turning it into a client state (look up Power Corp). There's no political will to fight against it, and even if there was the population has been trained like Pavlovian dogs to resist it.

That's why I'm becoming an American citizen. At least here there's still a fighting spirit of resistance.

The sinking loonie is the greatest thing for Canada in the past 20 years. Watch manufacturing, sawmill and pulp and paper plants start to fire up again. How can they not make money with a 50% cost advantage.

Also, if you have the money, buy a closed down/strugging american tourist outfit, hunting lodge, fishing guide operation. All of those Wisconsinites and Minnesotans that haven't visited for 10 years will be coming back.

I have witnessed it more than once.

I was in London and saw a middle aged couple sporting maple leaf hats and tags on their backpacks. Since I was feeling a little homesick, I approached them to ask what part of Canada they came from. They seemed embarrassed and admitted they were American.

Problem is in the 80s and 90s the sinking loonie worked great but now manufacturing means you are still buying all of your other required components in USD. Studies have shown that the sinking loonie isn't as much of an advantage as it used to be. Any thing manufactured here has parts that need to be bought in the global market in USD. Sure there are some benefits but its marginal at this point.

For the consumer it's a double whammy. Food and other goods are already getting tremendously expensive here.

Rogers, Bell, and Telus recently raised their prices together citing the "weak loonie". For the average consumer a .60-.70 loonie is not good.

Yes, there is a ton of Chinese money sloshing its way around the world. But something tells me that they're going to get their comeuppance, too.

The Chinese are good at short-term exploitation of resources, scamming, bilking money, and the like.

But I just don't think they have what it takes for the long haul. We'll see how well they do in Nicaragua for this canal project.

I just get the sense that despite all the damage the SJWs, cucks, dorks, and sellouts have done, the game is not over yet.

The backlash has not come yet. Things move in cycles.

The game is not over yet, Davis! Don't lose hope. Not by a long shot. Whip

You are, of course, correct sir; the solution at this point is very small scale. Not earth-shaking political movements, but small bands of brothers who demands better of themselves than mediocrity. The upcoming meet-up is palpable step forward. Small though it may be - a dozen men in each city - it's the start of the beginning.

The Canadian economy sucks though, cigarettes and liquor are four times the price, my seven years of service earn me derision from state and populace, and I feel naked without a gun.

The price of food has gone up noticably, I went into the supermarket just now and saw a head of cauliflower selling for $4.00. I have feeling as times get tougher the LCBO (government controlled liquor stores) might lower the price of booze.

It has been no secret that the Loonie has always been kept lower to encourage business with Uncle Sam and other countries, like you stated it sits at 0.69cents right now and some are saying it could go alot lower.

I really don't like talking politics, I have been in Canada for over 30 years, I have seen many PMs come in and help themselves to the cookie jar. The last joker Harper use to preach anti-immigration many years ago when he started out.
Before he was booted out, he was making many trade trips to China begging business and holding panda bears for PR purposes.

I also recall many years ago Canada was recruiting the Hong Kong rich people to come to Canada and take advantage of what we had to offer.

Yes, grocery prices have jumped exponentially in the last few weeks very noticeably.

The mentality of lower loonie = good for manufacturing/consumer just isn't' true anymore (though economists and politicians like to say that to save face). Whether we like it or not we are in a global economy and most companies are paying USD for the goods Canadians buy. Manufacturing ain't what it used to be and whatever does exist here still has to pay many expenses in USD when they buy parts/components etc.

I think the sweet-spot is around 80-85 where goods and food can be purchased by companies without getting hit by an incredibly low loonie, you can still travel internationally, and your manufacturing sector has a slight edge over the US with a cheaper loonie. When you start getting to 65-70 in 2016 you are hurting the average person on the street.

I think you have a good point on costs also being in USD nowadays, which hurts any manufacturing edge. Lets take forestry for example. Even 15 years ago you could buy heavy equipment for operations that was made in Canada, along with plant equipment for paper mills. Now the factories supplying those goods and the technical expertise are overseas or in the US.

My family has also been telling me about the rising prices of consumer goods. It sounds insane, but will also be a shot in the arm for HST revenues. I remember the last time the dollar was low (2003?) and retail and fast food prices went up...guess what happened when the dollar recovered 5 years later (2008) the prices didn't recede at all. This is a permanent price hike for Canadians.

Yeah, that's exactly my point. Economists and politicians point to the 90s when the Chretien/Martin Liberals took advantage of the low loonie to boost trade and eliminate deficits but the manufacturing industry has since eroded. And since then a lot of the costs are now incurred in USD and that takes away the advantage of the lower loonie. Before this the dollar did bottom out in the early 2000s.

We also know businesses use every excuse to increase prices and when the dollar was on par with the USD or in the 90s for a few years no company decreased prices.

Funny thing is there are still many products which are cheaper in the US even with our shit dollar. The worst thing right now for Ontario would be an increase in HST. Hopefully Trudeau doesn't increase GST which has been rumored.

RE: Justin Trudeau is a cuck clown
I posted this earlier in the Oilsands thread, but something big that hasn't been mentioned here at all is the looming bursting of the Canadian housing market bubble:

(01-19-2016 02:51 AM)HighSpeed_LowDrag Wrote:  What also bears mentioning is how a recession driven by oil prices could cause the housing bubble to pop in the Canadian real estate market.

CMHC has stress-tested the Canadian housing market, and their "Armageddon" scenario says that oil under $35/bbl for five years would bring unemployment to 12.5 % and cause a 26% correction in housing prices. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/cmhc-low-oil-1.3345304

We're now under $30 and (for the most part) likely to fall further with no end in sight.

And it should also be mentioned that Canada's housing market is potentially overvalued by some 63%, and is the most overvalued housing market in the world.

Oil and real estate are the two biggest sectors of the Canadian economy.

One of them going is bad enough. Both would be catastrophic.

I feel you, brother, I really do. Believe me.

It is downright shocking to be in a country like this that respects veterans. I point out that I'm a Canadian veteran, and yet they still give me a discount based upon my service (I refuse to accept a Veteran's Day free meal, however). Like I said, the home of the digger wasp also has its natural predator.

Sometimes I feel like I'm just a soldier without an army. I'd join the Marine Corp in a second, if we were fighting wars that in any way benefited American interests (these knees still got some life left in them), but that just ain't the case.

Hard to find people worth fighting for.

Again, if the weak refuse to save themselves, then there is no pity from me.

But there are plenty of innocent that the weak kill alongside themselves which I will bring to the attention of everyone.

For example, you've got old ladies like Merkel bringing mass rapists to Germany who target girls under the age of 17. Those girls do not deserve this. Standing by indifferently is immoral by any standard.

Preferably these innocent should be taken in as refugees to America if the countries themselves cannot be saved, but for the others let them reap what they sow.

Shit. That would be my Expat dream come true. The Canadian real estate bubble bursts, house prices crash and I'm sitting here with US cash trading at 1.40 Canadian.

I'd be all in to become a Canadian slumlord in the aftermath.

looking for a new signature.

Muslims aren't a concern for me in Canada, our sinking loonie is.

Samseau - aren't you half oriental?

Since you like to post pics.....

I would agree but this isn't the 90's.

Back then Mexico was still in squalor and still feeling from a currency collapse. Now in 2016 they offer substantial manufacturing capacity that directly undercuts Canada. Also the USA South we're many Corps invested in during parity years have new capacity with more business friendly laws which essentially make work peons for many factorys with the right-to-work laws.

It has been a decade of disinvestment and decay in our factories. Many chose to just run things more cheaply versus using this cheap money period to invest in building and modernizing capcity, while Govt threw money away at money lossers like Bombardiar instead of offering grants to manufacturing to help aid with capacity building.
