Pathways by Quintus Curtius
I copyedited Quintus's new book Pathways, which is available now on his blog and Amazon. For full disclosure, Quintus is also my friend, but he did not ask me to start this thread and I do not receive any sort of commission for its sales. I simply felt like the book would be an excellent resource to the community and wanted to get it some exposure during its launch.

The book is similar to his first two books Thirty Seven and Pantheon in that it is a collection of distinct essays. This time Quintus groups the essays loosely by overall theme, with sections on Thought, Biography, Health, History, Language. He also adds a helpful index at the end of his book, which makes it much easier to refer back to topics that you want to revisit in future readings.

Strengths:

The copyediting! Banana Just kidding. Like Quintus's other essay books, the diversity of topics really shines in this volume. His takes on other literary works were so engaging that I found myself downloading and buying a couple of the works mentioned inside, even though they were far out of my normal literary tastes. In that way, Pathways is both an excellent standalone resource of wisdom and a jumping off point to deeper study.

The writing shows his trademark style and wisdom, and few other guys in the manosphere show the ability to write as consistently and engagingly as this man. Who else can you read engaging commentary on Roman bee keeping practices and the philological origin of words in the same volume?

Weaknesses:

Very few. If I had to quibble with two things, it would be these:

1) There are a couple essays that cut off a bit quickly that I thought could have benefited from additional explanation.

2) One of the longer essays on the structure of the Roman empire is quite long and very dry. One of Quintus's strengths is that he blends history with morality and lessons for the modern day, whereas this particular essay reads more like a history textbook and did not hold my interest as much as the material where he injects more of his voice and perspective.

Overall, the book is excellent and I would highly suggest that you pick it up for your personal library.

Quintus sent me a review copy. It's quite good so far.

The copy-editing is awful though...I kid!

Marmite:

Yes, it is available now, if you click on this link:

Pathways

The Amazon Kindle version just went live today. They say that it takes another 3 to 5 days before the paperback version is on Amazon, but for some reason it's there right now.

So, bottom line is that they are both available now...

I bought it for the Kindle, then realised I might have left it in Europe, which means it's probably mixed up with my mate's things, who has now moved to Boston.

The Australian Dollar is circling the drain, so a hard copy costs $40 to my door.

I didn't hesitate.

Looking forward to it, QC.

^^^^

For those who don't know, the book was dedicated to Anonymous Bosch, in honor of his great services to all of us here at the Forum, and for acting as something as a Muse to me personally. He's inscribed right after the title page.

Many thanks, AB.

Thanks, QC. It's an honour.

It goes both ways: you've offered me great guidance and inspired one of my best songs.

I'll need to drastically scale back my forum usage this year as I have some big projects nearing completion that will need all my spare time, but I'm here with you in spirit.

So thank you, more than you know.

Are there any personal stories like the one you mentioned in Pantheon when you were in the army or early lawyer days? Those were very interesting.

Yes, there are.
The chapters in the first section ("Thought") contain many aspects my worldview. Sometimes personal asides are used to illustrate points.

RE: Pathways by Quintus Curtius
I just picked up the book and read a few chapters and one thing that I noticed was the flow of writing is really good. Like I said in another thread it's clever and it doesn't make me stop to open google translator or the synonym finder every few lines.

How do you do that QC? When you first started honing your writing skills, what went through your mind that helped you write this way?

It's really cool to be able touch on every subject without boring the reader.
