RE: Insomnia is killing me
My ability to fall asleep changed dramatically after I downloaded the Rain, Rain sleep app on my phone. I can't overstate how much better my sleep has been. I fall asleep much quicker and my sleep is deeper.

Like you I had racing thoughts while trying to fall asleep. The Rain, Rain app drowns them out. Check it out.

another reason to stay the fuck away from SSRI's. I would seriously only take these things If I were suicidal. seems as if they do more harm than good.

Anyways, hope you feel better man.

RE: Insomnia is killing me
I now don't have much difficulty falling asleep but my sleep is still not refreshing and I still wake up too early. I gave up on bright light therapy. It seems to make my insomnia worse. Besides, when I spontaneously wake up at 4 am I don't feel up to leaving the bed in an hour and sitting in front of a light box. I think the reason I fall asleep faster is working out and taking magnesium. Tried B5 too as I've read it's good for the adrenal system. It worked well for a while but now it makes me more groggy the next day than helping me sleep well.

I've even stopped eating my beloved dark chocolate. The only thing I've not done yet is quitting coffee. I drink just one cup in the morning. However I remember the first time I started drinking coffee in high school I got insomnia. Quitting it is not so easy; not just it gives me a kick, it tastes great too. Much better than tea. Also quitting coffee can actually give you temporary insomnia.

RE: Insomnia is killing me
You're basically stabbing yourself and wondering why you've got cuts all over.

You were on drugs, you eat a lot of chocolate, you drink caffeine, and you sleep in a cold room. You freely admit all of this, and at the same time you wonder what could be causing your restless sleep? You try to fudge things by putting qualifiers on each like, "I stopped the drugs this long ago," "I switched to tea," "I have subpar windows," "quitting coffee is not so easy," and so on.

It's really sad to see what I presume to be a grown man with such a strong level of denial.

Cut the crap you're putting into your body, eat real food, get a damn room heater if you need to, and stop being a little bitch.

Take care of your physical health, but more importantly, take care of your mental health, because your thought processes deserve a very strong slap to the face.

Try a guided meditation from The Honest Guys channel on YouTube.

I agree with Praetor Lupus. Train you mind to "shut off" at will through learning to meditate. Consider a late night yoga class. Yoga is great in so far as it combines the training of your mind (meditation) as well as physical exertion.

Spaniard88 is right, from all of the thread you started this is the only problem that emerge, you need to train your brain to follow what you want and not letting it take charge of your life.

Here is a book that could help you in that way but remember that once internalized you need to act according to it :

Quote:Facts:
#1: Brains Follow Directions
#2: Brains Externalize their Instructions
#3: Brains run on Representations
#4: Brains Transition in and out of the present moment
#5: Brains Induce States
#6: Brains Go in Circles
#7: Brains Frame Things
Solutions:
#1: Quality Control your Brain Instructions
#2: Rise Up in your Mind to become aware of the Games
#3: Beware of your Frame Referencing
#4: Lighten Up and Have Lots of Fun with Your
#5: Keep Teaching Your Brain New Tricks References

From "Brain101 How to Play the Brain Game for Fun and Profit" L. Michael HALL

Worth the read and the author wrote a lot about taking control of brains

Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral

Something that was suggested to me by a doctor and has worked very well for me at the time is to go to bed and to get out of bed each day a the exact same time (e.g. 11pm - 7am).

You need to experiment to find the best duration of bed time, for me personally this turned out to be 7:45 hours.

Of course it's not so easy to implement, because you basically have to built your life around it. But then again, it really cured my insomnia.

Excuse me? Yeah I was on an SSRI but guess what, I had to take it and quitting it was one of the toughest things I ever done in my life and I'm proud of myself for that. An ignorant and arrogant lucky guy like you who attacks people from the comfort of his keyboard has no idea how difficult this can be. (You can look here to learn a little: http://survivingantidepressants.org) And if you can read I mentioned I already quited dark chocolate. You say "you drink caffeine" like I did heroine. Most people I know drink much more coffee than I do and have no difficulty falling asleep.

Ah, I wish I was as smart as you. Who could have thought of that??

I'm sorry but belittling others by misrepresenting what they say won't make you a better person, except in your own eyes.

RE: Insomnia is killing me
Everyone has their own sleep patterns and the amount of sleep you get decreases with age. Stress is the main disrupter of sleep and one has to find out ways to control it and ensure that they get a good night’s sleep. Here i want to tell about how to cure insomnia in naturally.
1.Wake Up on the Same Time Each Day
2.Avoid Stimulants like Nicotine and Caffeine
3.Don’t Eat and Drink Right Before Sleeping
4.Reduce Stress
5.Aromatherapy
6.Keep Phones and Gadgets at Bay
7.Acupuncture
8.Set the Temperature Right
Hope these tricks will help you to have a restful slumber and make you feel relaxed throughout the day. Never underestimate the power of sleep and the magic it can do to your mind and body!

RE: Insomnia is killing me
Hi, me too I'm struggling with insomnia, especially I've difficulties in fall asleep when I wake up during the night. I believe that depends on certain foods, but I'm experimenting different strategies.

At this time I'm trying what is described here: https://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2013/0...0-seconds/

But as far as I can see there's nothing new, eventually you have to drop stimulants and wake up every morning at the same time.
The only difference is that in the article the author suggest to take a 20 minutes nap during the day, this in order to train your brain to limited amount of sleep that it can get. In this way you should train your brain to sleep more efficently.

RE: Insomnia is killing me
I've always had an issue with insomnia!

I bought a massage chair where it's only failed me once since I got it 4 months ago when insomnia kicks in. Usually, when I use it during the day for 10 minutes, it nearly puts me to sleep in zero gravity mode.

I noticed when I was in SEA, they have them at the airports. One day, I was about to pop from total rage at the airport. At the time, I was standing next to a massage chair which I've never used before so I jumped on one for 30 minutes and I was at peace by the end. 10 minutes later, someone bumped into me and I didn't care. I would have gone crazy at the person if I didn't jump on the massage chair!

I'm a bit of a hot head at times so when I go back home from SEA I bought one to calm me down when I'm in a bad mood. I worked out later it was great for insomnia and for after work when my body is sore from labouring.

A regular massage cost about $100 these days where you can get a basic massage chair that does the job (what I bought) for just over $1000 (10 regular massages) so it's well worth the money!

Too much light will wake your body up so I run Flux on my computers https://justgetflux.com/ and Screen Filter (android) on my phone at night.

Have been like this for more than a year. It started when I stopped taking an SSRI a year and a half ago. It wasn't cold turkey though. It's been a few days that I stopped drinking coffee and have restricted tea to the morning. But no difference. I eat a lot of 85% dark chocolate every day and can't live without it. About 20 grams a day but before 4 pm.

I have a 9-5 desk job and a car and this doesn't help of course. I have a spin bike at home but I feel so tired that I don't even use that. Just go for a hike at weekends.

If I don't have a very hard workout I can't sleep, I need to play MMA (boxing/Grappling/Kickboxing) or Crossfit also Weightlifting is good, just need something very hard. After that I fall asleep like a child.

I would suggest you to try Crossfit in early morning -first class in my gym is 7.00 am for example- then you would have a boost of energy all day and at 10 pm you only want to sleep.

Have you tried to play a sport like that?

Strain 3 TSP of Valerian (herb) in a teapot and drink 3 cups per day. You will relieve nervousness, over-thinking, stress, and insomnia. Quality sleep for sure.

RE: Insomnia is killing me
Just bought valerian tea today and tried it out, very relaxing and I recommend for insomnia but I only slept for 4 hours and am awake now. It clears negative thoughts and decreases anxiety before sleep. My sleep clock is so messed up but im trying to fix it, went outside to some nature today in the sunlight for 4 hours and then hit the gym with deadlifts, came home tired so im making progress.

7 days of straight crazy partying and temporarily having no daily routine is what caused my insomnia, my sleep cycle for the past days is fall asleep at 5am and wake up at 2pm (just like it was when I partied but now im fully sober), luckily its getting better as I woke up at 12.00 yesterday. I never knew it would affect my mental health so much but I will reset my clock through all these methods. Insomnia is no joke, I was thinking to smoke some weed before sleeping but I want to stay sober, ill stick to herbal tea and if it gets worse ill get melatonin.

Go see a Naturalpath doctor. The one I see I credit with saving my life. You go to a regular doctor for pharma meds; you go to a Naturalpath for diet & supplement advice.
