RE: Fashion and Style Lounge
Is it beta to wear my (high school) class ring? I've been wearing it ever since I got it freshman year, but in the past year or so I've been wearing it less when I go out.

Typically when I'm out, my attire is a v-neck t-shirt, jeans or khakis, and a silver watch on my left wrist. The ring would go on my ring finger on my right hand.

Recently it just feels a little tryhardy and over the top, especially with casual attire. I also think rings in general are a little beta, but I've always thought class rings were an exception.

Thoughts?

Objectively?

Class rings are low on the totem pole of coolness. Letter jackets are cool, but your actual letter jacket from your high school days is not cool.

Rings/Jewelry
- fashionable ones are liked by women
- outside of wedding rings, all rings/jewelry are considered low class or feminine by a lot of men.

First exception is tribal membership.
- If you're a biker, you can wear a skull ring.
- You're a rapper, you can wear a gold chain.
- You're an Italian dude, you can have some bling around your neck.
- If you're Christian, that James Avery look will be attractive to that target market.
- If you're Indian, a gold ring is damn near mandatory

Second exception
- You've just got a whole lot of game, and very strong sense of your own identity. Then whatever someone thinks of what you're wearing beforehand, doesn't matter when you step over towards them, start talking, and bring them into your world.

Suddenly, the god awful Fedora is cool as shit, when she realizes that you play the saxophone. The class ring, the muscles, and the smirk make sense because you're still a jock at heart.

Ultimately, they can change you...or you can change them.

The only other exception would be watches. Watches are definitely masculine.

Since I imagine you're on the younger side I highly recommend a Swiss watch.

Those are pretty hard to dent or scratch and they can look fly as hell.

My favorite brand, but a bit on the pricier side.

If you're on more of a budget highly recommend Vostok. Military watches that again are hard to dent or scratch, but have a very unique look with affordability.

Carrera looks sexy...but there is a problem...it is Tag Heuer. If, for example, you buy one today and it breaks in the next 5 years, the manufacturer will not be able to service it due to lack of spare parts - that is what I have heard, at least.

If someone owns one, I would like to hear his opinion, of course - I really like their designs and I really want to be proven wrong on this one.

Back to the topic - I am considering buying the replica of the Ring of Mordor, and wearing it on my neck (of course, attached to a necklace), like Frodo did in LOTR. What is your opinion of that folks?

I am. College student.

Here are my four watches:

I literally never wear the white one. Got it almost a year ago. Looks cool, should definitely put it in my rotation.

The silver one is all that I wear. Almost every day now. First watch I ever bought (a couple years ago). Any silver/gray watch with a dark-blue/black head looks good with good-looking casualwear.

The black one looks good with a shirt and tie, though I haven't worn it in over a year. I hardly ever dress up like that.

I used to always wear the gold one but now I don't because I realize how goofy it is. It's fake gold - about $20. I'm white.

---

The Swiss watches basically look like my silver watch. What is it that makes it good for younger men?

If you're ever asked why you are wearing something like that or what it is, deflect and give a different reason/response you can use as a springboard into different conversations.

I'd say they are better for younger men based on one thing. They are the hardiest and hardest to damages watches in my personal experience. The one I own doesn't have a scratch or dent after various drunken nights, one time backhanding a guy with the face in anger, going out camping, and all other manner of wear/tear.

The thing is as a college aged student or a guy recently out in the world you're more liable to have the energy and want to go too a lot of more active events so it won't mess up even with that. They are also all waterproof so no need to ever take it off.

I meant LotR, but yes it means Lord of the Rings, but to elaborate on my earlier post. Discussion of Lord of the Rings discussion has never and will never fly with hot chicks unless she brings it up saying its cool. It's about as effective as talking about anime or comic con.

Makes sense. Do these watches come with a lifetime warranty?

I probably won't get one anytime soon since they average at about $600. But definitely a first-in-line purchase to keep in mind after I graduate and pay off my debt.

There's a few brands that do have lifetime, but they are few and far between. After doing a bit of searching I realized that they have mostly stopped doing it. One of Invictas has lifetime warranty, but I bought it a while back so meh.

Lately, I've been wearing all grey denim..

This shirt:

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT3bdoZoNl0T9_Umg_xbDa...GNiS9IAWhT]

(Zara -- Denim)

These pants:

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSW0-4DfMHQrHojTh7tgg5...o7_LtCYRWQ]

(Levis -- 511)

These boots:

[Image: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSvJiACxUSrKMebDFEPPUx...zf7QCC0xrn]

(Timberland -- Earthkeepers)

--

I like to dress a little different from everyone else.

I like to standout without looking like I'm trying to standout.

I need a bit of mystery and a little edge.

Your clothes are a reflection of your mind. I hate to look basic.
--

I like this sort of vibe:

--

Of course, in the summer time, I try not to wear clothes!

I figure I might as well buy a sturdy Swiss watch (or similar) with a lifetime warranty in 2-3 years after I graduate and pay off my debt. It'll be costy but I figure it'll be worth it, being my lifetime go-to watch.

This one seems to be the look that I'd go for:

[Image: 8807954907166_celum_87957_560Wx490H.jpg?0]

Everything in the $500-$700 range is what I'd look for.

I can afford that now, but I'll wait.

@GoldHawkStar
Rings suck on a casual basis. But in certain areas they can work well.

I wore my class ring in the airport and they thought I was apart of the military and let me move through the line.

Little did they know I was going to rehab. :)

Nope.

As I get more confident with the clothes I might gradually add more rakishness to it, but I'll still lean more heavily towards refined.

Hopefully you have a few added accessories to that(necklace, perhaps a tooth pick to look a bit edgy, ring, etc.) with a few buttons unbuttoned off the top.

It's a classic look, but you may be considered a bit hipster if you're going with plaid.

Loving everything else on it especially the shoes and watch.

Best of luck.

Conor McGregor's Dita sunglasses and watches have always caught my eye. They are bold. He takes a lot of risks in his suits and ties. I think about half are great. The other half he goes too far off the reservation, he always stands out though which I think is more important for our purposes anyways as long as you can back up whatever you wear.

Maybe red, to attract attention?

What can I say? I kind of dress like one.

The outfit was an eye fuck success, but I didn't have any other accessories (lost all my bracelets over last year).

Top two buttons were undone but you are right, I do need to step up my accessory game, it makes a world of difference.

RE: Fashion and Style Lounge
Where is a good place to buy plain v-neck t-shirts?

Very similar to the grey and burgundy ones in realologist's post above; no print or design and a deeper v-neck.

I have a few Marc Anthony brand ones that you can get at Kohl's, but the v-neck isn't as deep and the colors don't vary well. (For example, there's no red.)

I also bought a 7-pack of Hanes ComfortSoft white T's at Wal-Mart for $13, and they actually have the neckline at the perfect length.

But I want more than just white, and for some reason when I but Hanes in different colors online the neckline is further up.

I also struggle with cheap t-shirts that I buy online being not as form-fitting and the bottom of it (where it overlaps my pants) always wants to flip up.

Maybe red, to attract attention?

Not a fan of all white. Doesn't look right. Maybe with a grey mesh t shirt, but still. What would you do for shoes?

On the other hand, these white trucker jackets look dope. Never seen them before.

For white tees I use hanes comfort soft. For the other colors I usually hit up Macy's and TJ Max just trying on different ones until I find one that fits right. That's generally hard for me. Most of the time too tall for large and too small for XL.
