I'll be there in the first week of January. Staying in Poblado. I'll even take the first watch on Scopolamine Avoidance detail.

Of course, I do not need exact number and exact percentage. I ned comparasion with european cities such as Budapest. Does every second person speaks english, third, fourth, tenth?

Every third could be ok, but every tenth would be a waste of time for me.

As always, Scotian's posts are direct and full of insight. To add, I've interacted with Colombian speakers of English that were: cab or Uber drivers, waitresses, hotel reception staff, airport staff, gringo hunters (online and in bars). Curiously enough, you may find that when you are sized up as a gringo, many of the Colombians who can speak English will respond to you in English even if you open with "hola".

Note: Colombia is not Europe so many of your English speakers will be more educated in general but not necessarily of a higher socioeconomic background. Learning English gives them an edge in job opportunities in the service and professional sectors.

RE: The Colombia Master Thread
To me if you want success and to truly feel comfortable here you have to keep learning the language. I just spent 6 hours hanging and joking with a Colombian family and some neighbours drinking Rhonn. Part fun, part Spanish practice. My question is this: If you can't hold a conversation with friendly people in a place you are invited, how are you going to cold approach effectively ?

Travellers Tip: This time, I brought 5 small bottles of Canadian Maple Syrup for maybe $5 each before coming. When I'm invited to an event, I bring that in place of a bottle of wine or something generic. It really has gone over well and the people appreciate getting a really unique gift from your country.

Precisely. Well said.

This is pure gold. You'll get a lot of mileage out of gestures like these. It shows you are kind, respectful, and possess the gift of forethought. And, although it's not expected, it is quite standard to do things like this.

Whenever my ex (Paisa) would come to the states, she would bring small gifts unique to Colombia, especially Medellín, for my friends and family, without failure. She was almost moved to the point of sheer panic if she had forgotten or neglected to bring a gift for someone in particular. No matter how I tried to calm her by telling her that people here don't expect that, she thought it was insulting not to do so.

This cannot be more true, I have just spent 5 months doing an exchange semester in South America and I brought Swedish chocolate as a gift and since their local chocolate (unless very very expensive) is quite bad, it's a whole new level and it shows appreciation.

This is very true. Girls that are estrata 4-6 typically speak much better English than girls that are poor. Many many Colombiana's would be willing to meet you just to learn a few words in English. Running day game is kinda hard if you can't speak Spanish so/so but if you pipeline tindr and do it right you will be able to set up 2-3 dates/day in Colombia as a gringo.

In Medellin you have to set up multiple dates because the flake rate is so high, so schedule three and if one shows up then you’re doing well. As for English speakers, beware of the “English leeches” who only intend on meeting you for language practice and nothing more, they can be time wasters.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

RE: The Colombia Master Thread
From what I have seen the reality of living in Medellin as a non-Spanish speaker is that you are gona bang the same re-washed Tinder skanks interested in foreigners over and over. At best they have seen a dozen gringo cocks before yours and at worse they will scopolamine and take you for what you have.

I might be biased because I only match with fatties and trannies on Tinder and I dont even have the app installed anymore but I have seen tall good looking guys struggling online here.
The quality of girls I get daygaming is so much better its not even close. However I couldn't pull that off without being fluent in Spanish as there are jokes, manners, social clues etc. that you can not understand unless you grasp the language well.

Add to the fact that apart from not speaking the language a lot of gringos are running aloof North American style game and not understand machismo and you have a recipe for how not to get laid in Colombia.

On the other side if you want to maintain the expensive lifestyle a way out of your league grilla and call yourself a player Medellin is a great spot for that. A lot of hot paisas are definitely interesadas and they will be happy to laugh about your dumb foreigner ass while chatting to her Colombian thug on the latest Iphone you bought her. Don't come back home crying when she has maxed up your credit card and got another gringo paying for her shit though.

Again this is what I have seen around me in Medellin, things might be different in other Colombian cities where the stigma against sex tourists is not as strong.

I agree, the tinder sucks for women I get trannies, fatties, and the HOT ones are all hookers... The quality women walking around el poblado and or at jobs etc is better and the malls as well. Nightlife has to be good at discoteca prizma, babylon, sixtinna, and envy and you have to speak spanish or hold a convo then medellin would make an awesome city to kill it in. watch out for gold diggers though.
