Happy Equal Pay Day - April 12th
tl;dr - today is equal pay day, a sarcastic description created by the media to bring light to the issue of an alleged pay gap. However, the gap is due to a variety of factors but those are ignored to promote an agenda. Let's post useful info to this thread so it can be a resource thread.

------------------------------

I guess today is equal pay day because of the wage gap.

Of course, when people argue they always are selective with their information to support their position.

They never talk about doing the exact same work, the lost productivity due to matters that are biological, etc.

In this clip, the idiot seems to forget that many of those single mothers chose to be single mothers. Either being an alpha widow, or divorcing their husband, or not practicing safe safe. But those points would damage their position.

Here is the clip.

http://sendvid.com/uw2ruf7d

Rather than post some article about this BS, let me post an article that shows why it is myth.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/harvar...le/2580405

Quote:I've written extensively on how the gender wage gap would be more accurately referred to as the "gender earnings gap," because the gap is due mostly to choices women make and not discrimination.

But now you don't have to take my word for it, you can listen to Claudia Goldin, an economics professor at Harvard University. The name is probably a woman's - never can tell anymore Goldin spoke to Stephen Dubner, the journalist behind the popular podcast "Freakanomics," in a segment about what really causes the gap.

As one can imagine, Goldin comes to the same conclusion that I and many others have: That the gap is due mostly to choices men and women make in their careers and not discrimination.

"Does that mean that women are receiving lower pay for equal work?" Goldin asked after listening to clips of President Obama and comedienne Sarah Silverman claim that women earn 77 cents to the dollar that men earn. "That is possibly the case in certain places, but by and large it's not that, it's something else."

That "something else," is choice — in the careers that women take, the hours they work and the time off they take. Dubner asked her about evidence that discrimination plays a role in the gap, to which Goldin responded that such a "smoking gun" no longer exists.

"It's hard to find the smoking guns, OK? The smoking guns existed in the past," Goldin said. "I have found many a smoking gun where you find actual evidence of firms saying, for example, 'I do not hire Negroes.' Or, 'I do not hire women.' I mean, you actually find these in 1939."

Goldin argued that once you account for a number of factors, including taking time off from work and different careers, then there isn't "tons of evidence that it's true discrimination."

Goldin also suggested that the old claim that men are just better at bargaining doesn't contribute much to the gap. She said studies have shown men and women show up to a job straight out of college (meaning they have the same education level) and earn the same amount.

"So if men were better bargainers, they would have been better right then. And it doesn't look as if they're better bargainers to a degree that shows up as a very large number," Goldin said.

But as men and women progress through their careers, Goldin said, the difference in pay comes to light.

"But we also see large differences in where they are, in their job titles, and a lot of that occurs a year or two after a kid is born, and it occurs for women and not for men," Goldin said. "If anything, men tend to work somewhat harder."

I can see her last sentence there gaining the ire of many a feminist. Of course women work hard, Goldin isn't suggesting they don't work hard — she's referring to the difference in the number of hours women and men work.

"And I know that there are many who have done many experiments on the fact that women don't necessarily like competition as much as men do — they value temporal flexibility, men value income growth – that there are various differences," she added.

When it comes to taking time off for children, Goldin said that was a "large factor" because "anything that leads you to want to have more time is going to be a large factor."

Goldin pointed out that among similar occupational groups — like health care — women earn less than men, but it is because of "a host of reasons, one of which is that they're not working the same amount of time." ---I will post an article about woman doctors going part time

Women, she said, are opting for more flexible hours, and jobs that allow for such flexibility also pay less. An example she gave was the difference between a high-paying job at a big law firm and a corporate counsel. The big law firm may pay more, but would also require round-the-clock availability, long hours and travel, whereas the corporate counsel would pay less but provide more stability in hours.

And for all the complaints that it's "society" that forces women to take time off, that same "society" stigmatizes men who do and force men to earn more once a child is born. "Stay-at-home-dads" often conjure up images of unsuccessful beta males. Maybe if there weren't such a stigma surrounding fathers who want to take time off of work to care for their children while mothers pursue their career, the gap wouldn't exist or would even be reversed.

But the bottom line is that the "gender wage gap" is not caused by discrimination, and therefore cannot be fixed through government action to reduce discrimination. It can only be fixed by forcing women to make different choices, which is absurd.

RE: Happy Equal Pay Day - April 12th
While I applaud that women take time for their family, why can't they work the normal workload like men, if men and women are equal. Or hire help since they make a lot of money. What I do see is during the admission process, I imagine the women get a slight edge in admissions, thus preventing a man from getting into med school and then years later the women go part time, when a man would not - thus robbing society of medical knowledge and services while dealing with an aging population. Not short sighted at all.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...ients.html

Quote:Women doctors who only work part-time are causing staffing issues that could create problems in the future, an expert has warned.

Dr Hilary Cass said children's units, which attract higher numbers of female doctors, were a particular cause of concern.

She said many tended to work three days a week once they had started families, which led to gaps in the rota which means the remaining doctors had to work for longer periods.

She also said UK care of sick children compared poorly with the rest of Europe and many more lives could be saved.

Dr Cass, president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said there were currently no safety issues, but the situation could change for the worse.

There are just under 5,000 paediatricians in the UK, of whom three quarters are women. Dr Cass said children's wards traditionally had higher numbers of female doctors.

Surgery and A&E on the other hand tend to attract more men as they are regarded as 'macho'.

Seriously who comes up with these bullshit days?

This short Youtube video by Maddox is hilarious and destroys the idea of a wage "gap".

The wage gap myth has been outed by people on the internet and in the news multiple times now over the past couple years. A little surprised this is even still a thing. It's getting to the point where I can no longer excuse it as ignorance or lack of awareness, but rather flat out delusion and deliberate victimization.

That video by Maddox is a good one and has been posted on the forum several times. That's my go to whenever someone decides to throw a fit on the internet about this magical "gender pay gap."

If April 12th is Equal Pay day what should we call the day we all pay to support women? Oh wait, it's called "Tax Day" and it is three days after "Equal Pay Day."

RE: Happy Equal Pay Day - April 12th
This is an especially frustrating issue, as the side that constantly reminds us how ignorant and uneducated its opposition is takes a position founded in abject statistical illiteracy.

Aside from that, even if a 5-7% gap remains when controlling for other relevant variables, does anyone really believe that pay is or should be determined strictly by quantifiable metrics? Acting as though salary is simply a function of field, education level, hours, etc. ignores the obvious; what about quality of work (as perceived by one's manager)? There's no good way to measure this in a study, yet it's an undeniably huge factor in how much someone gets paid. There's really no way of knowing whether any of the remaining 5-7% wage gap is a product of discrimination.

Whenever I hear about the gender pay gap bullshit, I don't feel like putting extra effort at work. I was going to do some extra work today, but then heard another bullshit story on the radio about Obola whining about how women and minorities are underpaid, so I just got up and left. Fuck this shit. The corporate environment is fucked anyway. I have to work on starting my own business.

When are we gonna talk about the Effort Gap. The average man works 40hrs a week... The average woman works 35. How about an Equal Work day... where the woman puts in the same amount of hours as the man? That would be the day.

One thing I rarely see mentioned on this topic is the difference between private and public fields.

Simply put, if you work in the government or the public sector the you not only get paid the same for your level but there are also all sorts of guidelines determining how much of a raise you will get and when.

How many people work in the public sector and more importantly how many women?

Does a male Gx make more than a female Gx?

Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.

Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

Report: U.S. Soccer pay data paint different picture

A few points raised by U.S. Soccer:
  • Of the 25 top-earning national team players over the past four years, 14 are women and 11 are men.
  • Of the 24 women's national team players under contract with the federation in 2015, 14 made more than $300,000 in salary plus benefits and none of the other 10 made less than $249,000. The top men's player earned just more than $178,000.
  • In no year was the player-compensation-to-team-revenue ratio greater for the men than for the women. (A clause in the women's collective bargaining agreement would trigger a payment to the women if it was.)

Yet women control 80% of purchase decisions.

WHAT? DOES NOT Compute. ERROR.

If women have such little wealth and wages, why is every product and ad campaign targeted at them? We know why.

We must fight purchasing inequality. We must correct this egregious injustice in consumer spending!

The wage gap myth is just a divisive myth to further harm gender relations.

You can legislate equal opportunity but you can't legislate equal results.
