RE: When did heavy metal become pussy music?
Personally the pussy aura of metal in the 90s drove me to hip hop and I suspect a lot of other people as well. I mean, Anthrax was singing about the smell of their feet while NWA was talking about sex and violence...which is more interesting? Metal was unrelatable and esoteric whereas hip hop resonated and also sounded good and was upbeat vs. depressing.

I can understand that. The depressing and hopeless aspect of current metal music is mainly what I was getting at in my long post. I think it is healthier to listen to more optimistic and energizing music. When I started moving away from the depressing stuff, I found it to be like a mild withdrawal where I felt the need to go back to the depressing music out of habit and probably for the same reason that many people tend to continue in their old habits rather than improving themselves: because it is easier to complain about other people doing the wrong thing than it is to take the decisive action needed to start winning. And, especially if you pay attention to the lyrics, the vast majority of current metal lyrics are just lists of complaints and resignations articulated in the most flamboyantly theatrical and over-emotional way possible.

RE: When did heavy metal become pussy music?
I think it's when Generation 2 came into it.

The original metal bands were doing something original and 'dangerous'; they were forging their own route. But then they got popular.

The second generation entered into it, as a form of safe rebellion. Hot Topic provided the outfits (look how edgy I am! I bought a shirt at the mall from a corporation that says I don't care about your opinion!), and older Mommy Mentors approved of their safe, faux-masculine, state-approved rebellion.

"If mommy says I'm a cool rebel, girls are sure to like me!"

They were purchasing an outfit and mimicking the chords; they never had any fire in their souls to begin with.

RE: When did heavy metal become pussy music?
(11-30-2018 04:42 PM)You Know It Wrote:  Heavy metal has always been pussy music. A bunch of guys walking around in ridiculous clothing, buried in leather and chains, long hair, and makeup. They think that because they can play a riff fast and turn their amp to eleven that somehow their masculinity has suddenly been elevated.

Many metal musicians suffer from depression, alcoholism, violence, inferiority complex, anger, whining, bi-polar syndrome, ADD, and about every mental illness you can think of. From the first note that rang out in the song 'Black Sabbath', until the present day, metal musicians have done everything they can to portray themselves as bad-asses, when the truth is that they are nothing more than a bunch of little boys and girls who hide behind their guitars.

Not to mention the simplicity of their music. They think they are so fuckin' amazing because they can shred. I would challenge any of these musicians, however, to be disciplined enough to sit down and play a violin concerto, piano sonata, Caprice, Nocturne, or sit in on a jazz trio. Then they would know what it's really like to overcome their pussiness and act like real men or women.

The sad thing is that metal - all metal of any kind - is so steeped in the industry, the commercialism, the image, and the personification of 'tough' (whatever the fuck they think that is), that they have forgotten that it's about the music. And don't think for one minute that it's never been mainstream. It's always been mainstream - just marketed differently to appeal to a different crowd. For every band out there that is actually musically credible (i.e., Dream Theater), you've got a bunch of screaming, lazy, and boring musicians and songwriters who actually demonstrate little to no imagination, creativity, or innovation in their music.

In short, metal musicians are pussies. They are overrated and too full of themselves to see their own stupidity.

I disagree. Glam Metal and Fagcore musicians with their emo haircuts, spandex, and whiny lyrics, yes they are pussies, but the more hardcore metal bands whose lyrics are about criminal behavior, blowing people's heads off, and bodies of victims from shooting sprees hitting the floor are definitely not pussies. Aside from the violence of the music, these metalheads have deep voices and are ripped, definitely a sign of high testosterone. Just listen to this music video as an example:

The music video above shows the difference between Hardcore Metal and the pussy SJW metal. Its just like the difference between alternative SJW fag-rap and the badass gangster rap whose lyrics are all about crime, guns, bling, and sex with hot chicks.

Thanks to Roosh's movement to restore masculinity, there has been a steadily growing undercurrent of soyboys who are turning into badasses. These men shave their heads, wear loose pants and combat boots, bang hot chicks, lift, street fight, knife fight, shoot guns, drive superbikes, monster trucks, and humvees, avoid soy and drink testosterone boosting beverages like coconut oil. This is the beginning of a badass masculine era.

Randy Rhoads may have began playing guitar first but his mother was piano teacher who classically trained him to further his understanding of musical theory. Luca Turilli is also a classical pianist.

The Great Kat, on the other hand, is a violinist who graduated from Juilliard and transitioned to playing thrash metal versions of classical pieces. Tbh, I was a bit skeptical myself after first hearing about her.

Some people peg the start of the pussification when metal was pushed aside by grunge and lost its way. Others say it occurred when it became too mainstream and was commercialized. I'd say it was when "nu metal" like Korn and Slipknot became popular in the late 90's. As someone who was in middle school at the time, every kid who had major issues with life ate it up like candy. The most touchy-feely band of them all, Linkin Park, was the just the icing on the cake. Note that one won't find those bands, Black Veil Brides or Suicide Silence for that matter on Encyclopaedia Metallum.

The real problem is that because the touchy feely depression type stuff gained mainstream status, my generation thought that was what metal was supposed to be. Luckily, a segment of the metal world, especially in Europe, went towards a fantasy or medieval theme. Rhapsody and Hammerfall came out around '98 with songs about knighthood, templars and what not. They were soon joined by the likes of Dark Moor, Freedom Call, Thy Majestie, Majesty, and the war history obsessed Sabaton. It's interesting that Kamelot and Dark Guardian preceded all of these by a decade or so. The closest stuff like that got to the mainstream was Dragonforce though.

Heavier bands (some with harsh vocals) with a war/fantasy/medieval bent include Doomsword, Ensiferum and Wisdom.

RE: When did heavy metal become pussy music?
Metal, and all of its offshoots (hardcore, etc.) have always attracted the underdogs and the misfits. While historically it's been a masculine environment (99% male attendance in the audiences and bands) I have noticed SJW and leftism creeping in over the years.

Hardcore is still a pretty masculine genre as seen in this video. A lot of bros moshing and going ham with their bros. The vocalist in TUI is known for being pretty big and lifting/having good musculature is making a comeback in hardcore instead of being a skinny dork. That said, a lot of hardcore bands definitely espouse the "diversity" and "shows being a safe space" line of thinking.

I've always appreciated metal and hardcore because it's real. It doesn't pay big bucks like mainstream music., it's not glamorous, and it is (for the most part) merit based. Metal and heavy music can be pretty technical and requires some kind of instrumental proficiency. Fortis mentioned Periphery and Tosin Abasi, they've been killing the game for a while and are on another level in the metal space.

That said, there is definitely a wide open gap in the metal world for a "red pill" metal band. I'm not talking Neo-nazi shit like Screwdriver and the like, but a band that espouses soft red pill concepts like self improvement, disregarding mainstream thought, etc.

RE: When did heavy metal become pussy music?
Heavy Metal in the 1970s was mostly about Black Sabbath and Judas Priest. Deep Purple had great inroads in it being among the founders even if remaining under the Hard Rock term. Was it male or female? Well, Judas Priest singer, Rob Halforth, was a homosexual and he and many others set the scene for the 1980s with the tights and the androgynous looks but overall the Heavy Metal scene was dominated more by male rather than effeminate icons. True that it was a favorite music among Beta-males and loners (later on identified as incels) but so was many other genres such as punk-rock, alternative, electro, techno etc. Alphas just don't have the time or interest for having "favorite" types of music afteral. Musicianship is pure beta-ness, few alphas in it. In fact of all types of modern music, Heavy Metal was the one that included the highest percentage of Alphas. Check Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, Dave Mustain of Megadeth, Joey DeMaio and Eric Adams of Manowar (2 Alphas in the same band!) etc. etc. If you move beyond the 1980s tights and leather imagery, Heavy Metal was the one type of music with highest percentage of Alpha males playing it. Certainly the audience was all about Betas but Betas are 90% of male population, what else can one do! Are there more Alphas in the Techno-House-Electro music? Only rap can compare but in rap it is all about pretending to be Alpha so you can't clearly tell who is what. If anything, since Heavy Metal was the type of music that women hated most, the mere fact that a man listened to it means that he, at least, did not care about changing his musical tastes to fit that of women, and be it a Beta, this particular behaviour of his is precisely an Alpha trait.

The type of music which consistently attracted the type of man that was later one identified as SJW type was initially the hippy-rock of the 1960s, partially also that of progressive such as Pink Floyd, and then during the 1980s the post-punk movement, the gothic, the industrial which eventually gave in to the most-SJW-oriented of them all, the very one that honed the modern 2010s-2020s SJW type : Alternative. You could see it in the early 90s with the rise of Nirvana. They had a different audience than that of, say, Slayer or Megadeth (Metallica were massive and thus more multicollective). It all lasted a bit, since their music was anyway inferior, but it did leave a legacy of pussy-rock. Not metal for sure.

RE: When did heavy metal become pussy music?
The early hard rock scene was homosexual. Homosexuals discovered and flocked to what became metal first.

Pop Hard Rock Icons like Mick Jagger and David Bowie cultivated ambiguously gay stage presences, looking, acting, and dressing the part to keep the original core audience and expand to the mainstream.

Outside of Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd, there wasn’t much unapologetically masculine hard rock.

So hard rock and later metal doesn’t come from masculine origins.

The arena rockers that followed in the 1980s emulated Jagger over Zepplin, because Jagger got mainstream radio play that Zepplin never did.

Then 1990s alternative was pure SJW. By the 2000s, the Telecommunications act of 1996 put the music distribution industry under control of oligopoly, which decided to promote rap-rock hybrid music that older rock fans hated, younger fans didn’t embrace, and killed most rock radio stations. Rock music is not considered a viable economic enterprise these days.

LOL I remember that time in the mid to late 90's when when the music transitioned significantly. This is around the time that Limp Bizkit & Korn were heavily promoted right?

RE: When did heavy metal become pussy music?
Early 2000s/late 1990s was the age of Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park & kid Rock. Artists who were trying to combine rap and hard Rock without really understanding the “big chieftain” appeal of Rap.

These groups had their young fans, but the older hard rock fans who grew up on 1970s/80s/grunge wouldn’t listen and this killed all of the Rock radio stations. Also, they didn’t appeal to rap listeners.

These bands shouldn’t have killed rock, but the music industry was under monopoly/oligopoly control after the Telecommunications Act and was not free to play other music instead.

If good hard rock/metal were being made today, where would the youth & masses hear it? On which platform?

IMHO, I don't subscribe to the more-is-more approach to metal. It reached the limit with early 80s thrash. Death metal with cookie-monster vocals or detuning below C# goes beyond heavy and into unintelligible noise.

This song is what I would consider the most agressive, ballsiest metal ever, where the fast double-kick drumming actually still sounds musical because it has some boogie/syncopation to it.
