RE: "Meternity" Leave - Women Without Children Want Maternity Leave
Nah all this 'family friendly policy' is bullshit employer interference in peoples lives.

I had one guy in my office who would "work" from home every friday cos his kid needed looking after (kid went daycare three days and one day with mum). So how exactly is my colleague working when he is looking after a kid at the same time?

Governments and employers make up these policies to keep women in the workforce but they tend to be really unfair.

Similar to how the "free" childcare introduced by Chancellor Osborne essentially is just a tax payer funded benefit.

Imagine a family with a stay at home mum and woking father. He fathers earnings are diluted by working mothers in the labour pool. He tries hard to support his family with just his earnings. Still, tax is taken from him to subsidise dual income families. Talk about tipping the scales.

All of these 'family freindly policies' help women in the workforce and penalize those trying to live on a single income (i expect all men here to be aiming to become the sole earner)

A great thing to start a family, but dont take money out of my pocket for it.

She probably looks like she's 3 months pregnant though. It's surprising she hasn't got this already.
I'd approve this, as long as they all agree to enjoy the perks of childbirth. At the end of their leave, they get to have a very large, irregularly shaped object shoved up their vaginas.
Or a metal gauntlet.

Remember, Rule #1 of Female Behaviour: Everything I want, I believe I deserve.

I wouldn't take this too seriously - she's not a RadFem and this isn't a serious proposition as of yet - she's just some fat-fingered floozy flogging a stupid book with your standard Female-Typist Idealised Version of herself on the cover.

Look at the expectation vs the Porky Reality we saw earlier - and note her Twitter and Amazon profile photos are years and pounds out of date.

[Image: 41hcBn62o4L._SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_.jpg]

The book blurb is what your Basic Bitch would call 'Amazing' and 'Hilarious':

Quote:Like everyone in New York media, editor Liz Buckley runs on cupcakes, caffeine and cocktails. But at thirty-one, she's plateaued at Paddy Cakes, a glossy baby magazine that flogs thousand-dollar strollers to entitled, hypercompetitive spawn-havers.

Liz has spent years working a gazillion hours a week picking up the slack for coworkers with kids, and she's tired of it. So one day when her stress-related nausea is mistaken for morning sickness by her bosses—boom! Liz is promoted to the mommy track. She decides to run with it and plans to use her paid time off to figure out her life: work, love and otherwise. It'll be her "meternity" leave.

By day, Liz rocks a foam-rubber belly under fab maternity outfits. By night, she dumps the bump for karaoke nights and boozy dinners out. But how long can she keep up her charade…and hide it from the guy who might just be The One?

[Image: raw]

Look, I can understand why this story pisses everyone off and threatens to go viral, but the best thing we can do is to utterly-ignore her and her idiotic 'beach read'. Her Twitter barely has 1000 followers, and she's lucky to get 4 likes on a Tweet. She's 38, obese and childless. Her book has barely broken the Top 12,000 books on Amazon, and probably would have been quickly forgotten if people haven't decided to target her Amazon Reviews to shame her.

Facepalm

Seriously, ignore her. Otherwise this becomes a 'harrassment' narrative, gives her a tonne of free publicity from the man-hating media set, becomes a massive seller, and two years from now the chick you're with wants to pop the movie version of this on as she tries to pretend she's that you're 'not having sex tonight', which means you risk accidentally-looking up as you fingerbang her on the couch to see Dakota Johnson awkwardly-bumping into Ryan Reynolds and making him spill his coffee with her fake stomach, which would then completely destroys any tiny trace of respect you might have still had for what you can no longer deny is a Major League Derpster happily-squirming on your middle and ring fingers. Does she read 'Twilight'? Does she enjoy Buzzfeed? Are you about to get the dreaded Cosmo Blowjob: where she was promised it would drive you wild if she uses her teeth?

Even worse: if we don't fight the urge to either shame or instruct her, then this risks triggering a rush of Rule #4 - this nothing book sudden bcomes the centre of a 'Societal Conversation' where she tries to excuse her dysfunction and toxicity, and, if enough women emphasise with the excuse, this 'meternity' expectation then risks becoming taken seriously and normalised.

Look: you walk into a public toilet and someone has left you an unpleasant surprise. You don't poke it with a stick. Just flush and forget.

Ok, one little poke:

Quote:I want kids in the future, and I might still take a traditional maternity leave. I might not. But either way, I’m happy my “meternity” taught me to live on my own terms and advocate what works for me.

She's 38! I suspect she expects the taxpayers to fund the Caring and Benefits for her Post-40's-Careerist-I-Deserve-A-Child-Rotten-Eggs-Autistic-Brat she has with Mr. Big Mr. He'll Do.

Watching a child is not a 100% active attention situation (that's why women go into early childhood education). You put a kid into a cordoned off play pen or a room with the doors closed while you work on a laptop.

RE: "Meternity" Leave - Women Without Children Want Maternity Leave
In China, during Spring Festival, which because they follow the Lunar Calendar like pagans is a variable time between mid/late-January and the end of February where everyone (besides essential services) gets a ton of time off to relax and go visit their friends and family...and of course if you want to hustle you can still work as well, you can do that.

I mean sure they work 8-6 Monday to Saturday but that's because they're inefficient more than anything (if you're here like me you can attest - at least ten hours a week is looking for a document that they needed because filing isn't Confucian enough...), and they also have like 300 national holidays a year. We definitely work way too much in the West - 'Oh, two weeks of paid holidays a year!' - that's a fucking extra day off a month! Stat holidays in January, February March/April (Easter), May, July, August, September, October and December! Wow! 9 long weekends a year, cool!

...

So while in principle I agree with the sentiment...her smugness and entitlement, not to mention of course...

Quote:Of course, that didn’t happen. But the more I thought about it, the more I came to believe in the value of a “meternity” leave — which is, to me, a sabbatical-like break that allows women and, to a lesser degree, men to shift their focus to the part of their lives that doesn’t revolve around their jobs.

Makes this pure horseshit, shit like this is why men get paid more. Should people have more vacation time? Aside from essential services, absolutely (and just 'rotate' them holiday to holiday and give them the option to cash out at 62 instead of 65), but aging childless women are more on the 'parasite' side than the 'contributor' side...

I'm opposed to full-pay maternity leave in general (I'm in favor of taxation, yes even the absolutely excessively high taxation of Canada to build schools, hospitals and infrastructure - not to pay to raise other people's kids). It should be half-pay at most (which would, you know, encourage people to not spend 105% of their annual take after rent and utilities on useless shit). Yes, in Soviet Canada it's a year and the man or the woman can take it, or they can split it evenly...but come on, any of my fellow brethren know even one case where the woman didn't take the full year? Because I don't (not that this is a bad thing - babies need their mothers - but why even offer it to men?)

Quote:I want kids in the future, and I might still take a traditional maternity leave. I might not. But either way, I’m happy my “meternity” taught me to live on my own terms and advocate what works for me.

Good luck paying for the pricey inVitro and donor treatments on 'Meternity Leave'...there's always unemployment - the pay is shit but the hours are great.

RE: "Meternity" Leave - Women Without Children Want Maternity Leave
So it turns out this was a promotion for another one of those vapid "chick-lit" books. It's a shame women took over the publishing industry and ruined it. Sad!

But I digress.

It looks like she and her publishing company miscalculated how this would be received. From an ABC News story today:

"Foye was scheduled to appear today on “Good Morning America” but cancelled her appearance after the backlash. Foye issued a statement through her publisher, Mira Books."

Full story here.

My guess is that the movie rights to this book will be picked up by someone like Tina Fey. The idea of faking a pregnancy to get off work is actually pretty clever. The problem is the way they promoted this.

They made this political (i.e. "Women need THIS!") when they should have given it a comic spin. The ridiculousness of faking something and trying to get away with it is appealing. Giving females more privileges isn't funny at all -- and is now pissing off both men and women who actually need maternity leave.

All of which shows...women can't do comedy. Publishing houses are almost entirely run and staffed by women. So women most likely devised this wrong-headed push for her book.

Someone like Larry David could have made this funny as hell as a "Seinfeld" episode. Having Elaine fake being pregnant the way George faked being disabled could have been comic gold.

I'd suggest that they knew exactly what they were doing, though they may have underestimated just how negative the response would be, due to the creeping societal shift towards traditionalism that seems to have begun.

I crashed into bed before lunch, and have now come into work for the evening, and in the time I was asleep, as I warned:

- the amazon one star ratings have almost doubled in number;

- a harassment narrative has been created - we'll see if they grab the ball and run with it;

- this trite-sounding basic bitch beach read book is now considered 'controversial';

- a twitter hashtag is now underway;

- there's multiple search results about this stupid book on wider news sources, such as ABC and People, rather than the sad, lonely one that existed last night;

- the 'societal conversation' is threatening to begin. I'm starting to see comments along these lines:

Quote:Bless her! Paid maternity leave (and the office dynamic she describes) are both so unfair to people who choose not to contribute to overpopulation. I completely relate to her stance

Short hair detected.

Where does it go from here? Like the Typists own Eggs, she sat on the book too long: the Oprah-ish, 2000's-style self-absorption of the 'Me-ternity' concept is now desperately-unfashionable. My prediction is this will be instead used to start a 'societal conversation' for Government-Mandated Paid Maternity Leave for women.

RE: "Meternity" Leave - Women Without Children Want Maternity Leave
AB gets head hunted after the girls go wild themselves.

Book selling self promotion marketing game recognized.

It was the best of this forum when AB was around. He shall be sadly missed. "An original thinker" some lauded. "He had the courage of his convictions" was another accolade. "He really knew how to stick the knife into the feminist agenda and twist it" others proffered.

Sadly, he has now retired to a remote desert island and poosy paradise after being made an offer he couldn't refuse: AB - Editor in Chief of "Cunts monthly", "How to cause a storm in a bra cup", "Do it to them before the bastards do it to you", "Click bait and chick bait - a marriage made in heaven" and of course who could ever forget "How to deflea your cat in 10 easy steps".

He shall be sorely missed.

Every man has his price...

But seriously.

AB, I salute you. Some people pay good money for analysis like that. And even then it wouldn't be 50 percent as accurate as your quick bullet points. And we get it here for free. The rad-fem's guide to shock marketing in publishing. I only hope they aren't taking notes and using your notes as a blueprint for further controversy and sales.
