Teenage Boy Takes His Mother To Prom
http://wtvr.com/2016/05/04/teen-invites-mom-to-prom/

More emotional incest. These women seriously need to stop treating their sons like surrogate boyfriends. That boy should have taken a girl his age to prom and that woman should have chosen a man who was worth a fuck. People would call it creepy if a grown man took his daughter to her prom because he "had a rough childhood and missed out on prom," so why is it cool when women do it?

Once again,

Son invites mom to prom she never got to have

GAHANNA, Ohio -- Trey Potter wanted to make sure his mother knew just how important she was to him. That was one reason why the high school student took his mom to prom. Merlo Potter had a tough childhood and never got to experience a prom of her own.

"She never had that experience and she's risked so much for me - throughout my life and made so many sacrifices I thought it would be the right think to do," Trey told WCMH.

Merlo grew up in 23 different foster care homes. By age 16, she was pregnant and homeless.

"[I] didn't ever hear any positive reinforcements that I was beautiful or valuable or worthy," Merlo, who went on to become a model and advocate for foster care children, said. "One of the messages I heard when I was pregnant with him... well Mel because you lived in the foster care system and you grew up without parents, you're probably not going to be able to raise a thriving individual. It just doesn't happen you can't give him what you have and so seeing who he has become and knowing the sacrifices that have been made and how much I love him and seeing that come to fruition I've proved them wrong."

While some students might shy away from bringing their mom to a night typically celebrated with classmates, Trey said he believed his prom date choice was 100 percent appropriate.

"I think it shows her how much I appreciate her, cause I really do, after all she's been through and all I've been through with her, it just makes her happy and that's all that really matters," he said.

He just sounds like a nice enough guy who wanted to do his mother a good turn. I don't know where the father is in all of this, probably absent.

I bet his buddies are laughing their asses off behind his back. Maybe he was too scared to approach a girl and ask one out? The mom is old enough she should know better. This is nothing more than attention whoring on her part.

David took his men with him and went out and killed two hundred Philistines and brought back their foreskins. They counted out the full number to the king so that David might become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him his daughter Michal in marriage. 1 Samuel 18:27

^He showed he had no balls, being unable to ask a girl to come with him.
Thus he didn't smash.

RE: Teenage Boy Takes His Mother To Prom
One thing that's become clear to me as the decades have gone by is that there is a culture and mindset among single mothers and their kids that's totally separate from two-parent households. In other words, it's not just one-parent families vs. two-parent. They're entirely different beasts, like comparing a suburban enclave to the inner city, as opposed to comparing one suburban neighborhood to another.

This has become especially apparent on Facebook, where I see my single mother friends from high school speak about their kids in a way that's totally unrelated to what married women write. The line between parent and child gets blurred when there's not a mom and a dad to make clear the "us vs. them" division.

So while "taking your mom to prom" might be unthinkable to those of us who came of age in a two-parent household, it's perfectly in line for boys who grew up with mothers calling them "my little man" and "the man of the house" -- among other things.

There are studies that show that girls who grow up without fathers go through puberty sooner. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that there are hormonal difference in single mothers who live with boys...and with the boys themselves.

I'll leave it to Heartiste and others to figure out what this might mean to a society where more and more kids are born into one-parent families.

That's probably it. You know his mom spent his damn childhood telling him "Your daddy ain't shit, your daddy was a damn dog... you know you kind of look like your daddy too. I want you to grow up to be a gentleman who respects women baby, don't be like your ain't shit daddy." Undermining his self esteem and making him scared to assert himself and approach women for his whole damn life. Of course he's scared to approach a girl at his school.

And it also speaks to a really high level of immaturity that a thirty-something woman even wants to go to a fucking high school prom in the first place. If you have even a modicum of maturity at that age you realize how insignificant high school is in the grand scheme of things. If that woman had any maturity whatsoever, when her son asked her to go to his high school prom with him she would have said "Nah baby I'm good, I'm past the point of caring about a high school prom. Find a girl your age and take her. This is your time."

My school didn't have a prom because my school was fucked up, so I missed out on the prom too. I'm in my thirties now and a damn high school prom is the last thing I care about, because I have this thing called maturity and perspective. Why does a 30+ year old woman even want to go to a high school prom?

Most likely one of the chaperone teachers smashed it. I know I would.

In the black community, if you want to put someone down, you level the insult at their Mama. There's a whole subcategory of insult humor: the Yo Mama Joke. Why no "Yo Daddy" jokes?

Probably because to insult a man's father — particularly a father he never knew — is too low a blow. It's not funny. It can be deeply hurtful.

Yet this is what many single Mamas do all the time to their sons (and daughters). They do it overtly, and sometimes more subtly, with the "I don't need a man!" rhetoric....

RE: Teenage Boy Takes His Mother To Prom
An article like this constantly reminds me why I prefer to burn bridges with my own female relatives: all because of the emotional damages I underwent through on my way to adulthood.

Every single one of my maternal relatives said the same degrading shit and of course, due to a lack of a strong (read: stable) father figure on my way to adulthood, I end up trusting strangers more than my own maternal flesh and blood.

My own maternal clan still has not figured out why I rather burn bridges away from them instead of spending time with them.

RE: Teenage Boy Takes His Mother To Prom
Its simply emotionally selfish behavior. She never got to go to prom, feels regret, so she'll go by any way possible.

Except now her son didn't really get to go to prom either. A normal/mature parent would turn down their son/daughter for prom. There's a thing called boundaries, and this crosses it.

As has been alluded to, it is absolutely pathetic how these women act, and like with most feminist nonsense (being a fat whale is beautiful, an 'accomplished' yet homely woman is a great catch) it bothers me that our culture treats it not only as normal, but to be celebrated.
