Yeah I'm not really sure what this cover is trying to say. You are in the trap, so basically you are the bait. You are extending your arms, inviting people to come closer. So you are luring people into a trap?? And what does that trap have to do with free speech? Why are you in that trap? To me that cover doesn't make any sense.

^ Hands showing reasoning/ discussion. I'm going to play with the trail of traps idea to see how it looks.

That cover completely killed the rest of them including all those childish lions, bears and cartoonish designs. It has that uneasy vibe to it like I'm about to read something thrilling. It actually sent shivers up and down my spine for a second the first time I saw it. Fantastic work in my opinion.

^ Not bad. Looks like a book published by a traditional media corporation like Penguin or Simon & Schuster.

^^ Meh. It's nice but does nothing for me. My favourite is actually Baphomet's because it reminds me of those gritty anarchist zine designs from the 70's/ 80's:

Plus no pocket square. 2/10 WNP (would not print)

Just kidding, it's a great cover. Having no artistic ability, I am always impressed by people who are able to just blast out a solid design like that.

RE: Design contest for my next book, Free Speech Isn't Free
Maybe something with smiley faces along the lines of Liberal Fascism or SJWs Always Lie might work.

I got a feeling that dollar signs (Free Speech I$n't Free), cash, and a maybe a cash register need to be there too.

The picture that comes to mind is a scared smiley face figure behind a podium looking scared while another character holds a knife to his throat on his right with the Maple Leaf (and mayber the NDP logo) visible on him. On his left is the USA Democrat donkey smirking wearing sunglasses in red white and blue taking the money.

Basically have the cover say the title in pictures in an upsetting way that forces the left to defend themselves on their own turf (I think voxday said that - can't remember).

Sorry - the post is bit freeform. I suck at graphics so anyone please feel free to steal my ideas if you like any of them.

If your goal is to sell as many copies as possible, this cover is BY FAR the most impactful of all presented so far. I say this as someone who works in the publishing business with an extensive copyrighting and graphic design background.

The only thing I would change is the author name. Get rid of the white background it is on and enlarge and change the font. Having the same font choice for all text looks amateurish. A larger, elegant but still fairly simple san serif font for the author name centered at the top. Apart from that this is a great cover that will look good at thumbnail size too which is how most people browsing will see it.

I would emphasize the "Isn't free" by shaping the white background of it to be even more similar to a price-tag.

Yes, and make the free speech band look more like a "Keep out"/"Caution" band, or something along the line. Yellow font, black letters.

This design is very powerful, and its colours white and red make it standout and catch people's attention

Second best is the blue cover, it has as well simple and excellent design

XXL and WildChild are right. #84 is by far the best design of those three; it's quite good. The other two are not very good at all.

^^ I like it. Its bold and simple.

I've been looking into book cover design and a point they reinforce is that you need to take into account that the book image will sometimes be shown as reduced sized icon (links etc) so the bold cover above could work.

Did try one last quick attempt but no dice:

very sad

Sidenote: Does anyone here bid for 99designs regularly? Any pointers?

Small icon test:

Hmm they all hold up pretty well at that size...

^^ Yeah I design them with thumbnails in mind.

The first one is probably the most complete.

The second one needs a fix on the beard... doesn't look quite right.

The third one needs some more improvement with the protesters. It will be tough choosing one.

The first one has design effects that remind of other book covers, it is not entirely original.

Roosh - Will you send out a limited number of review copies, like you did for Poosy Paradise?

Roosh, a couple of things:

First, the "shattered" design is by far the best one. It has the most interesting look, the best image of your face -- mysterious, haunting, visionary, and determined all at one, as well as accurate -- and will sell many many more books than the others.

Second, the design needs to have your name ON TOP, like it did here:

There is a nice rhyme between "Roosh V" and "Free" but it only works if the name is on top. The name on the bottom looks terrible.

This is your winner -- see also XXL's and WildChild74's correct posts above.

How about taking a few of the good ones and doing some A/B testing to see what people react to the best?

I like the diagonal crack black and white cover. The one with the big red shirt needs quite a bit of refinement to look good, and it doesn't catch my eye in a good way.

Agreed. Not much, if anything, to change about that particular entry. Keep the name up there to ensure a well-balanced composition (things become too cramped otherwise) and limit the use of red to the second "Free" for more impact.

Yes I'll make an announcement this week.
