More millennials live with parents than with a romantic partner
Pew Research Center Wrote:Broad demographic shifts in marital status, educational attainment and employment have transformed the way young adults in the U.S. are living, and a new Pew Research Center analysis of census data highlights the implications of these changes for the most basic element of their lives – where they call home. In 2014, for the first time in more than 130 years, adults ages 18 to 34 were slightly more likely to be living in their parents’ home than they were to be living with a spouse or partner in their own household.

Quartz Wrote:In decades past, the majority of young people lived with their spouses and romantic partners. But that rate is rapidly declining, as millennials delay marriage, or wait to shack up with significant others until later in life. In 1960, 62% of adults were living with a spouse or partner by the time they were 35 years old. That share shrunk to 31.6% in 2014.

It's slightly more for men vs. women.

Gee, I wonder why?

I know, it could be the large amount of debt from going to college thanks to the fraud from High Ed that everyone needs go to college to get good job. Maybe, its the job market where employers can pick anyone and pay them shit, and contend with diversity quota. Or the crappy dating market where girls are focus on their 'career' and don't need a 'man'.

When will the day of reckoning will come?

^ People shack up in poorer countries all the time.

At least from my view women have absolutely no rush to get into a living situation especially in liberal parts of the country. The only way they are into that is if the girl is much less good looking than they guy which I have seen plenty of times.

I can understand part of the reason: Take Sydney for instance. My parents could have purchased a house on the beach, near the city for less than 100k [When the average wage was around 30k] in the early 90's. Today that same piece of property is around five million whilst the average wage is only around 50k. [Poor immigration decisions and globalism have a lot to answer for here].

This is Sydney though, and other cities most certainly have different circumstances. Definitely another factor which is screwing with the normal societal order.

Thersites is right. If you don't have rich parents to pay your way, you have to take out student loans. The average state school in-state tuition is roughly $5K per semester. If you choose to focus on your studies and only take on a part time job, you can up your loan to $10K to cover room and board. It takes at least four years to graduate for most people. That puts the average graduate at $80K in student debt for most degrees.

I have to pay $650 a month for my degree. I was essentially brainwashed to go to college from kindergarten. While I learned a good portion from my studies, my career goals do not require a degree. Unfortunately, most people don't live in the Midwest. I'll easily recover, but most grads are moving in with their parents because their loan re-payment plus average rent is above what they can make. The whole system is completely retarded. If I could go back in time and tell my 18 year old self to avoid college, I'd be much better off financially.

Can you imagine going to a school like DePaul, especially after the other night's fiasco? The cost of attendance (tuition plus room and board) is about 50K per year. DePaul sure ain't no Ivy League school, it's a mediocre school at best. I can't even imagine the amount of student loans kids have going to some of these expensive private schools. I can see how a lot of those kids end up back at home. College has become a total scam and the whole thing is infuriating.

I know this is a tangent but holy shit, I'm sick of journalists being innumerate, scientifically illiterate, and not taking the time to understand what they're writing about. This sentence is a gross misinterpretation of the actual data. 31.6% of 18-34 year olds do not cohabitate. The phrasing "by the time they were 35" implies that they surveyed people 35 and up about whether they were cohabitating when they turned 35. Or maybe it implies that they surveyed only 35 year olds. Actually it's quite ambiguous, but it sure as fuck doesn't resemble what the survey actually was. I see shit like this all the time.

The economy unfortunately plays a role here too; with jobs that even a HS dropout could do now mandating college degrees due to the influx of applicants.

I'm sure the entitled mentality of millennials and lack of traditional job skills also plays a huge part.

Most modern women are repulsed by the idea of "settling down" or relying on another man in anyway. They want their 'freedom' and 'independence.'

To the same token, Gen Y is the most coddled generation next to Gen Z. They stay in the nest forever and parents aren't exactly looking to boot them out either - especially since half of them are alone anyway and with the kids gone really have nothing left in their lives.

I am on the bus to the movies and there is some mid twenties couple that are sitting next to me. They are always standing in front of Walmart panhandling and holding signs saying they are homless.

You can be a deadbeat loser and get a chick. But half way have you sit together and most dudes struggle to get ahead. (I defiantly am not jealous or crying about the "success" of these two next to me.) Shit is just getting stranger and stranger all the time.

All the more reason to exercise. Improve myself and practice becoming more detuned from normal society.

I saw this article a few days ago and was going to post a link to it in the Older Guys (40+) thread.

While bad for society overall, if you're an older, established guy with resources then the current economy should mean more young pussy for you.

1/3rd of your younger competition is living with Mom and Dad.
