American Ninja Warrior
Surprised that there has never been a thread on this show:

Quote:"American Ninja Warrior is a sports entertainment competition spin-off of the Japanese television series Sasuke, in which competitors try to complete a series of obstacle courses of increasing difficulty called "stages"."
from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Ninja_Warrior (It contains "spoilers" if you want to start in earlier seasons)

Season 8 will premiere on Thursday June 1st, 2016. I'm making a thread right now because I'm in the middle of a marathon of season 6 (broadcast in 2014) on the Esquire channel. (Taking a night off from threesomes with 9s...).

I think this show is great for so many reasons and I recommend that everyone on RVF should definitely check it out.

* It's super entertaining
* You can watch an athletic competition where men and women compete with no special advantages for women (you should be able to guess the result..)
* It's a great motivator to get in shape -- these guys are ripped and so athletic
* It's also a nice data source to those who wonder how much a killer body can help you in terms of getting a hot girlfriend. They show the competitors' wives and girlfriends almost every time, so you can see who snagged hotties and who are really settling.

Has anyone ever considered competing? Would be such a high to conquer some of these stages in front of a cheering crowd.

Who else is planning on watching the new season?

RE: American Ninja Warrior
I was training with a friend who wanted to do it back when it first came to America.

As I've mentioned before it's also a great idea do bouldering in conjunction with the obstacles. Salmon ladders were also among some of thethings people used to train with. One of the original crew who competed set up an amazing obstacle course that covered the original course obstacles. That was over in California.

If you wanna compete is the selection process still done by online voting?

If you're already a standout veteran of the show, you're automatically given a slot but they accept demo reels if you want to try to be invited. Near as I can tell, being invited means they provide travel and accommodations for the night you're in town.

Other than that, each city has walk-on tryouts but no expenses are covered and you might be waiting for days before your turn comes up. They've mentioned walk-ons who've stood in line for 10 days to get a chance.

My dad and I started watching this show when he was in the hospital - I downloaded them and we watched an entire season during his week stay. It's his favorite show!! They made a great choice by having it at night, the lighting adds a lot to the course. Otherwise you see the course for what it is, cheap scaffolding.

I like how the audience and commentators are genuinely rooting for the contestants and are crushed when someone falls. The British version is the opposite - contestants are nearly in tears and the audience and presenters are laughing. Even my dad was turned off by that.

The had a part of this obstacle course set up down in Huntington Beach a few seasons ago for a promo or something. I was into free running and parkour in high school so me and my buddies went down to run it. It's much tougher than it looks. I'd love to have enough land for my own personal obstacle course on it.

The Japanese version doesn't have all of the stupid human interests clips. "She survived two car crashes, brain cancer, and helps nurse kittens affected by oil spills back to health" then processed to fall in the water on the first obstacle.

I'd rather watch a bunch of guys run through the obstacles than be forced to sit through all of that crap.

That's what turns me off about the show. But if it wasn't for that they wouldn't have any female viewers. I really preferred the original Japanese one, and especially the ones when Americans would compete against Japan.

But the all time best show kinda along the same lines was MXC. That show was awesome!

I have a friend that auditioned in the first German Ninja warrior show couple of weeks ago. It was pretty fun watching it get filmed.
