Who is "we"? After 1500 AD, all Ottoman Sultans had non-Turkic mothers. Lots of Albanian, Serbian, Georgian "sultanettes".

The Phoenicians probably sailed around Africa and reached the Indian Ocean some 25 centuries before the Portuguese. More impressive than some Athenians engaging in mental masturbation.

Didn't the Circassians escape to the Ottoman Empire only in the last few decades of said empire?

Setting up a giant trading network, innovating naval technology and colonizing Africa seems more impressive than writing poetry.

Russia didn't get invaded because they didn't border Turkey and they weren't outnumbered by them tenfold, like Serbia was. They did get invaded by the Mongols and were subjugated for several centuries until they kicked them out (and unlike you, I think this should be point of pride for them). Read more history son.

Anyways, seeing as you're Italian, I wouldn't expect you to understand military history and military pride. You guys literally got stomped on by a bunch of barefoot Ethiopian subsistence farmers.

Yes, I'm Italian, from Rome actually, you know. I'll tell you how special we are, not even one Muslim nation step a foot inside here and invaded us for past 2000 years mrgreen

If you call Serbia "a special place" for serving as slaves for 400 years to Muslims and let Turks bang their girls for centuries, turned their kids into janissaries, I guess you need to call Italia "A magnificent country."

That's something I am proud of. A country that never obeyed Muslims throughout the history. Not serving as slaves for 400 years to Ottomans.
I guess it was/will have been a decent run

RE: Serbia - The best country in Europe
I found in this documentary an excellent historical piece. Presented and starred in first person by Dr. Radovan Karadzic. All is very interesting, from the war cabinett meeting with Mladic before the Geneva convention in 1992, to Karadzic meetings with his mother, and with the Russian writer Limonov.

Around 33:00 mark, during the Siege of Sarajavo and on a mountain overlooking the city, while speaking to Limonov, Karadzic has a very interesting explanation regarding the previous discussion here about Serbs being slaves of Muslims. So while pointing to Sarajevo he says that it was Serb land until the muslims came. The Serbs who stayed there became muslims (the Bosniaks), and the ones who did not wanted to submit their faith escaped to the mountains.

If this is the doc i think it is, Limonov shoots at Sarajevo with a MG and Karadzic at his side, right? Also funny, because Limonov has the connection to the Exile...

Bosniaks before Ottoman invasion in 15th century were Croats and Serbs, not just Serbs. The reason Karađić says "Serb land" is because he was a radical. Croats = Serbs and Bosniaks = Serbs were main ideas fueling plans for reincarnating Greater Serbia during 90s, i.e. wherever Serbs live is Serbia. Western border was supposed to be through Croatian cities of Virovitica, Karlovac and Karlobag.

Regarding Bosnian nobility, interestingly, ruling dynasty of pre Ottoman times, house Kotromanić, is even now said to have almost obscure ancestry. Some suppose they are German in origin, others see ancestry from Hungary. During their ruling they had numerous titles including King of Croatia, King of Serbia and King of Bosnia. They intermarried with European mobility.

Unfortunately for you, there is a record of what you wrote:

Eh...the argument with Sicily seems a little wishy-washy to me.

Sicily is not really "in" Italy, it is part of the country the same way Northern Ireland isn't "in" Britain but is part of the U.K.

That in itself shouldn't mean anything, but you are talking about hundreds of years before Italy as a nation was even a "thing". So saying that Italians got their ass whooped by citing that the Sicilian Kingdom was conquered doesn't quite add up. Sicily was independent, and Italian nationalism didn't exist then.

Nationalism in Italy is very different from Serbia. I am not sure if saying Muslims conquered Sicily really means anything in this context. I suppose if we wanted to be anal we could say mainland Italy was not conquered by Muslims.

I think the point about Bari is a bit better argument.
