If you like True Detective (season one), check out The Bridge. Good acting and production. Special Agent Reyes from X-Files gets a lot of dicking too.

Some others worth mentioning:

The Fall
Black Mirror
Ash vs Evil Dead

Ray Donovan is pretty good and worth checking out, old school Boston tough guy with mob roots, working as a "fixer" for Hollywood celebs that need to make problems go away. Good masculine main characters, lots of sex and violence, plus there is a boxing element to the show that I enjoy. Jon Voight kills it as an old school mobster.

RE: The TV Series Thread
For what it's worth, I think Marco Polo is quite a good show. At the beginning, I thought it was going to be the stereotypical 'last samurai white god factor' show but it actually doesn't marginalize any of the Asian characters.
In particular, Kublai Khan is very well acted and Hundred Eyes is awesome (though somewhat cliche).

Other historical dramas I would recommend are Rome, Vikings, Boardwalk Empire and the often mentioned Spartacus. All of these are unique from one another and worth watching for a tv binge.

For superhero stuff, the Arrow went downhill to shit after season 3. Flash is the stronger show in that universe. However, I would argue DC's Gorham is actually better than both (alpha male lead played well and interesting writing).

On the Marvel side, Daredevil is simply exceptional.

RE: The TV Series Thread
I just started watching Animal Kingdom on TNT. It's about a teenage kid who loses his mom and has to go live with his "Alpha male, momma's boy" Uncles. Without giving up too much info, The Uncles are into criminal activity, fast cars and fast women. A good amount of nudity so far. 3 episodes have aired, so not a lot of catching up to do. Seems like it could be a good one.

Fargo (the Serie is inspired by the 1996 film of the same name by the Coen brothers).

Simply brilliant. Pure Excellence.

RE: The TV Series Thread
Like others have said, it's tough to go from The Sopranos, The Wire, and Breaking Bad to what is out there now. There's still diamonds in the rough, though.

Firstly, I don't know how nobody is talking about Bosch -a gritty LA copper show. Bosch is a Jazz listening, tatted up, old school Vietnam Vet turned murder police. It's on Amazon and well worth the price of admission. The first season has 92,000 reviews... which is mind boggling. For reference, The Sopranos has 8,000 reviews. Bosch was chosen by the public awhile back when Amazon released a bunch of pilots and let everyone vote on what they wanted to see as a series.

Currently, there is 2 seasons and Amazon picked the show up for another season. Right now, it's my favorite show on TV. -Also, Marlo Stanfield is on the show. He's a great actor and he's taking after The Bunk... always suited up.

Trailer:

And for pure comedy purposes, Silicon Valley is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen in my life. The episodes are only 30 mins, so it's very user-friendly as you don't have to dedicate an hour to an episode. Love this show too.

(Can't wait for season 2 of Narcos as well. There's some serious talent in that show.)

Hell on Wheels is another good one that I don't hear people talk about all that much either.

Watching Deadwood this weekend. Al Swearengen is a legend, the acting is excellent. Cant really understand what they are saying half of the time though.

Don't debate me.

Game of Thrones, Power, Banshee (series just finished), Ray Donovan, Vikings, Black Sails, Walking Dead, Homeland, and Better Call Saul. I will check out Narcos, Animal Kingdom, and Bosch based on this thread's recommendations. I also enjoyed House of Cards, but have only watched the first season.

Two girlpower series to avoid (don't ask):

1. SCANDAL features a bitchy black powerlawyer in DC who everyone wants, including the president. Catnip for their target viewer. A dumbed-down House of Cards.

2. ARROW, based on the superhero Green Arrow. Also has a bitchy lawyer who the jacked playboy billionaire is never good enough for.

Second the recommendation on the mini-series Rome (HBO). It follows the lives of two semi-fictional solidiers during Caesar's time. Some parallels with Game of Thrones, which it preceded. I've seen it twice.

RE: The TV Series Thread
One show that I started watching, that kicks some serious ass is Bojack Horseman. Its on Netflix.

Its about a Horse who was a popular actor in a 90's sitcom, now washed up, alcoholic, self-loathing and depressed.

Its an extremely funny, well-written show with a lot of red-pill moments. It gets better as the plot progresses as well. I gave it a chance on the first episode and was hooked ever since. I think you guys will dig it.

I also second Marco Pollo and Peaky Blinders. Netflix is honestly pushing out some really good series as of late.

Mr. Robot is quite good too, it's about a hacker who starts a revolution by hacking the biggest corporation. It won the 2016 Best Serie at the Golden Globes.

The Americans is a great show, thanks for the recommendation. Marco Polo season 2 is gripping, Kubla Khan is a major asshole for what he did to the child emperor.

Don't debate me.

Gomorrah is one of the best shows I've watched in a very long time. It's in Italian, with subtitles. It's about organised crime (obviously). It's really gritty. I'm not that far through, but it is really excellent so far.

The new Netflix series Stranger Things is pretty interesting - paranormal/conspiracy show along the lines of Twin Peaks, set in the 1980s. Really nails the look and feel of the time period, IMO.

Anyone been watching Hell on Wheels? I really liked the series, one episode to go and then it's "Done".
I also enjoy watching 'Grimm', but I don't set aside time to watch it, just download episodes and watch it whenever.

Not sure if any of you guys like any MCU (marvel cinematic universe) films/tv, but I found that daredevil and Jessica Jones on Netflix were pretty solid. Punisher in season 2 of daredevil was an absolute badass.

Black Mirror. It's a U.K. produced show (now netflix) that deals with sci-fi elements and modern reality. It's pretty good.

Justified. You can watch it just for Walton Goggins but the southern humor is solid throughout the series.

I like Ray Donovan but season 2 absolutely sucked. Thankfully 3 and the most recent is much better.

Tell them too much, they wouldn't understand; tell them what they know, they would yawn.
They have to move up by responding to challenges, not too easy not too hard, until they paused at what they always think is the end of the road for all time instead of a momentary break in an endless upward spiral
