RE: Is The Self-Employed (Entrepreneurial) Lifestyle Really The Way To Go?
^ Testos - Few people are able to get their financial life to such a place.. So first be happy that its there

Your age?

2nd - Now that you have the FREE time.. Dont let it be EMPTY.. Idle mind, devils workshop..

Try & Find things you enjoy doing/ love doing.. do them.. You got more time for hobbies, learning things; languages, dance, salsa, fitness and so on.. Cooking..
Whatever catches your fancy..

3rd - Go for a meditation retreat like Vipassna.. It will help you "manage" this APPARENT but not real.. and only Psychological set of thought waves..
Once you've learnt have to be relatively at peace, without ACTIVITY.. you're stronger..

4th - At the end, we need Purpose.. Purposefulness drives us.. So.. figure out or start the journey of finding your life purpose and pursue it..
And.. in the meantime.. share some of the happiness.. Go to an orphanage or share some joy with under privileged children.. or old age home..

Get out..

PS: The only way to managed the Mind (mind is a monkey) is MEDITATION.. Buddha said the Mind & Desire are the root of misery..
So learn that skill.. of managing the mind.. Meditation.

If you really wish to get guidance/ help on the above from someone who has gone through some of the above.. PM me.. we can take it offline.

The point of modern propaganda isn't only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.

Search for the Self Employed Entrepreneur thread. Huge dupe.

A note on working alone vs. in a company:

The question whether you want to work for yourself, in a team or for others highly depends on the individuals you are dealing with.

I have worked for people that I considered role models and big inspirations at the time, giving me an insight into years of experience, knowledge, character, and excellence. I was grateful for the opportunity to learn from them, it was a pleasure and a privilege.

I also worked for uninspired, mediocre bosses, and I worked for downright assholes and opportunistic snitches in a toxic working climate based on fear. Obviously, you want to get away from that as soon as possible.

If you are lucky to have an experienced mentor at work who supports your career, cares about you, and guides you, do not throw it away too soon because some internet marketers tell us to “leave the 9-5 cubicle hell”.

I think entrepreneurship is a necessity not a choice in this current economic climate. Being an employee can no longer provide an adequate living for the majority of workers. Job security is non existent, wages are stagnant while the costs of living are skyrocketing every year. Starting a business is the only way to get ahead now unless you are one of the lucky ones like oilrig.

not arguing with you specifically, but this is atypical.

I work for a Fortune 500 company with good benefits, but a fraction of the value you are talking about. Yes, we subsidize health insurance, but that subsidy is worth about $8000 a person, (if you have a family of 4, its $32,000). That is our cost in the group; if you are young and healthy the value of this subsidy is much less. A 401k you can replicate with an IRA; the real value is a company match. We match but it effectively capped at $8000 per person coincidentally. Besides those two, there aren't any other benefits worth mentioning. Almost no companies provide a pension anymore, and those that do are working to eliminate them. If you have one, expect it to be frozen in the near future - you retain your vested benefits but accrue none further.

in contrast, with a private business, you can run all sorts of expenses through your business - car payment, cell phone, interent, lunches, entertainment, etc. if done right, this will be better than the Fortune 500 benefits.
