In other news, Musk is trying to sell us his upcoming project...hoping to generate buzz so the gubbmint can throw him a few billion in order to sell the product to us mere mortals at 60-100K.

This has been known and generally understood since at least the 80s, probably earlier.

It will be true in the long run. The only question is whether or not we will live to see it ourselves.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

< I checked some 3 years ago and all European manufacturers were not offering electric cars for sale - only lease and in the end the company retained ownership.

Maybe that has changed or was different right off the start in the US.

---

AS for electric cars and how good they are - it's bullshit that they are as good as they can get.

GM destroyed the last model from the 1990s because it was too good.

Also I tell you a little secret - there are already mid-size and small companies in Europe which transform your gasoline model to an electric car. Many companies find this more economical. The strongest conversion I heard cost some 17.000$ and you got a Volkswagen Golf with a range of some 600 miles!

And big manufacturers cannot do this, when small companies have to make it themselves?

FakeNews-worthy. Also - electric cars of current build have a tremendous disadvantage in very cold climates like Canada. Also it will get colder on Earth because the sun is going through one of it's cycles and a mini-ice age is likely coming.

Personally I think that the best model would be an electric car powered by a geo-magnetic generator in the back - no charge necessary anytime ever. The funny thing is that this idea was even used in the movie ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE:

the genius immortal centuries old vampire created such a personal car remodeling one from the 1970s

Also - I think that electric cars should be the norm anyway - the combustion engine is rather primitive - fun, but way too wasteful.

I once had a 6 million dollar surgery...

I would exchange body parts. I'm also a supporter of Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.

For us, these conflicts can be resolved by appeal to the deeply ingrained higher principle embodied in the law, that individuals have the right (within defined limits) to choose how to live. But this Western notion of individualism and tolerance is by no means a conception in all cultures. - Theodore Dalrymple

I remember looking for ads and asking in universities if they needed any volunteers for rough unsafe augmentation experiments when I was 19.
Needless to say,I wasnt lucky so I had to start exercising...

Definitely not as good as they could be, no. You'll have to wait for the future for that.

GM's EV1 was a good electric car, for the technology of the mid-late 1990s. It sucks balls compared to what's available now. The lithium-ion battery pack in the Volt has about the same capacity as the 1996 EV1's lead-acids, but charges over twice as fast and weighs half as much.

Just sayin', you should drive some of the new shit that's available if you ever get a chance over there. I was skeptical at first, but 15 minutes into the test drive in "Sport" mode I remember thinking "Hah, the oil industry is doomed." Signed the sales agreement the same day.

Driving a "regular" econo-box ICE car that's not something intrinsically exciting like a Mustang or some other sports car is absolutely painful to me now. Fuck a Toyota Camry, I'm not going back.

Americans are good at building cars that people actually want to drive.
