Gary Reinl: The Anti Ice Man
Prelude: (Feel free to skip this)
For a long while now I have been preaching Ice Cold Showers for General Health and Masculine Development.
As a strong believer in the Red Pill, I am always searching for Truth and ways to Improve myself.

-----

That being said, I listened to a very interesting Podcast this morning.
Gary Reinl on the Meisha Tate Show (WB!!!)

---> Click Here to Listen to the Podcast <---

He is known simply as the, Anti Ice Man.

With a very deep knowledge of Medicine and Science - Mr. Reinl absolutely sliced through all of my deeply held beliefs and shattered everything I know about Icing.

Truly a rude awakening for myself, filled with many strikingly painful epiphanies.

Below are some eye opening quotes from Gary himself:
"Topical cooling (icing) delays recovery." -Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research/National Strength and Conditioning Association (2013)

"Ice is commonly used after acute muscle strains but there are no clinical studies of its effectiveness." -British Journal of Sports Medicine (2012)

"There is insufficient evidence to suggest that cryotherapy [icing] improves clinical outcome." –Journal of Emergency Medicine (2008)

"…Ice may not be the best treatment for aching muscles — in fact, it could even be detrimental to recovery." –University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (2011)

-----

In Gary Reinl's book ICED!, Kelly Starrett (considered one of the greatest Physical Therapists of our Generation.
His clientele includes Olympic Gold Medalists, World Record holding Power Lifters and Military personnel) wrote the 1st Forward in the book, backing up all of Reinl's arguments.

The 2nd Forward in the book is written by none other than Gabe Mirkin.
Mr. Mirkin came up with the Term R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) in 1978.
In the Forward, Gabe admits he was 100% wrong about the Theory of R.I.C.E., that it actually delays healing and that the Science behind all of it is now proven to be antiquated/obsolete.

-----

I am going to do more research, however in light of this new information I have decided to Temporarily:
1) Stop daily Ice Cold Showers.
2) Not going to Ice any minor/major injuries that pop up.
3) Won't advise people to use Cold or Ice for Health.

Your thoughts?

Dr Rhonda Patrick has a lot on this. I'm not going to dig through Rogan podcasts, but she drops a ton of knowledge on this if you listen to the few interviews she was on there.

For instance, cold therapy slows recovery...yep, I knew that because of Dr Rhonda Patrick. She goes into other extremely detailed analysis on what it's good for and bad for, timing, effectiveness, etc.

I look at cold/cryo therapy the way I do anything. I think it's good, but it's not the be all end all.

I give a lot of credence to it because until the last 50-100 years, most humans in the winter had to be cold for 6 months. There was no avoiding the winter chill.

I'm rather interested as to his reasons why and what you thought about it.

I only take cold showers after the gym to avoid sweating like a dog when I would go to work afterwards.

Scapper, have you seen any new gains post no shower?

The Beast1, it has only been a few days since I have stopped the Cold Showers and this is what I have noticed:

1) Con: Less "wide awake" energized feeling during and after the shower
2) Neutral: More euphoric "happy" and "lazy" feeling while showering
3) Pro: I usually shower once in the morning - I am noticing much deeper sleep at night if I take a 2nd warm/hot shower before bed.

So far there are definitely some pros and cons.
I'll update if anything else changes.

RE: Gary Reinl: The Anti Ice Man
The cold showers for me are fine, but I've noticed that I get dopey when I do the wim hof deep breathing exercises.

This is awful because I've also noticed that I can push more weight when I do them.

“I have a very simple rule when it comes to management: hire the best people from your competitors, pay them more than they were earning, and give them bonuses and incentives based on their performance. That’s how you build a first-class operation.”
― Donald J. Trump

If you want some PDF's on bodyweight exercise with little to no equipment, send me a PM and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
