RE: 50 documentaries to see before you die
Just finished watching a documentary that's been on my radar for a few months. It's called White Wash. It's about the history and lifestyle of black surfers. But it's so much more than that and goes all the way back in America's history about the way surfing was almost destroyed by whites in Hawaii as a way of suppressing native Hawaiian culture and how one man was able to revive this almost dead sport which was on life support by making "The Duke", a native Hawaiian the face of modern surfing and encouraging tourism to Hawaii. Even though the Duke was a master surfer and an Olympian, he still faced racism in America because his skin was dark brown. Goes into how blacks were systematically denied access to beaches and water activities which fed into the stereotype that blacks can't swim(also shows that many blacks were great swimmers in Africa before slavery, some even jumping off slave ships and swimming back to shore). Really great doc overall. It kind of hits home for me because I'm black and I started trying to surf this last summer and I want to become a surfer. But you always get made to feel like it's weird to be a black surfer and after seeing this film, I understand how that came to be from a historical perspective.

This one is pretty good and reminds me of being a kid in the 90's with the clothes and music. It's about 5 young heroin addicts in San Francisco over the course of a few years.

err what?

Black people do not make comparitvely good swimmers to white people because of genetics. In the same way black people can run faster; they also struggle to swim as well. White people have higher overall body fat and longer torsos this is ideal for swimming.

I don't know why you're concerned if there is only one black surfer then you will stand out and being different is usually cool.

The cave of forgotten dreams is one of the best documentaries I have seen in a long time. It really makes you think how much we as human beings have changed from 30,000 years ago in our artificial environment and culture.

The Fog of War featuring Robert S McNamara. It's a bout a whiz kid's journey through life using his big brain, making lots of mistakes but trying to do good work and good works.

I am going to check out that Monsanto documentary.

I hear alot of stuff about Monsanto but I have never looked into it.

Anyway - this recent proposal from the EU might be of interest to those interested in the doings of Montsanto:

There is a very good documentary called King Corn about how messed up the US food supply is and how awful corn is. Two kids from Boston move to Iowa to plant a single acre of corn. It goes into subsidies (our farm bill is messed up as hell) and how prevalent corn is in all processed foods and even our meat. It's humorous too. At one point they call a chemical company and attempt to make high fructose corn syrup in their kitchen.

Just finished watching this at the reccomendation of a friend who's father grows corn. Found it really interesting.

Looking to see more recommendations.

Zeitgeist

I'm surprised I haven't seen it already on the thread. It's a must-see. It broken into three parts: Religion, 9/11, and The Fed. Provides hard-hitting evidence on all.

American Drug War

This film, as a whole, deals with all the bullshit caused by the
"War on Drugs". I also found out about the book "Dark Alliance" through this film. That is a book that I've seen Roosh recommend. It basically breaks down and proves how the CIA intentionally started the crack-cocaine epidemic.

How many of these documentaries take a unbiased approach to the subject? I don't feel like investing time into a documentary in which I already know the conclusion based on the production group i.e. anything micheal moore.

Touching the Void - True story of 2 climbers and their treacherous journey up the west face of Siula Grande. Amazing story of human perservernece. Similar to 127 hours, but on a mountain in snow.

The House We Live In - Documentary about the USA's war on drugs, the human rights implications of this policy and how this has impacted and persecuted people throughout the country. Told from the perspective of people on both sides.
