Hot Tub Ownership
I'm currently in an apartment and looking to buy a house. Since being in apartments for the past few years I've become accustomed to relaxing in a hottub at the end of the day.

I'm looking to buy a hottub once I buy a house, but I wanted to hear if anyone had any personal experiences with owning one.

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
Be careful, this might turn into the "should i buy an old classic car" thread!

You should do some research on hot tub maintenance. They can be a bit of a bitch to take care of insuring the chlorine and PH levels are all perfect and that your filters are clean too.

Parties will be dope with people hanging out in the hot tub. Wintertime is even more legit with a hot tub.

It sounds like it's something you'd be passionate about owning, especially if you would plan on using it weekly. I'll let someone else talk about the costs but if you're able to get over the maintenance aspect I say go for it!

sometimes you see used ones on Craigs List for a fraction of what they cost new.

Strongly, strongly agree with this statement.

My dad bought a hot-tub about 10 years ago, I would guess has used it <50 times ever. He treats the thing a pet, meticulously testing the Ph levels and changing the water even though he does't use it. On the rare occasion someone wants to use it, he requires that all guests wash their bathing thoroughly or go in naked. No one has used it for at least 18 months, but I'm sure the pH is just perfect Dodgy

Only get it if you truly plan to use it multiple times per week or regularly entertain guests outdoors in cold weather. Otherwise, I'd say just join a fancy health club that has one available.

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
I owned one in my last house, from 2004 until I sold it last summer. As mentioned, don't buy new. They are a terrible investment and will drop in price, almost half, after purchase. Looks for something used.

That said, it was great. Meet a girl at the bar and invite her back to hot tub. Meet a girl early AM workout, invite her for a soak later. Etc. If I girl is coming over to hot tub, you know it's on. Careful spending too much time in there or you might have some performance issues (at least with this old timer, I'd pop a 1/4 of a Viagra before getting in and no problems). Also would use it on SA dates and invite the Ho over to hot tub and tell her to bring a few swimsuits so I can choose my favorite. Gets her hamster running and puts you into the right dominant frame.

As a former real estate agent, I would advise against it for many of the reasons listed above, though it might be more valuable in colder country like Canada during the winter

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
I used to have a ski share in Vermont and our house had one and it was well used.

No one cares about what it looks like once they are in it, just that the water is clean and warm. You could probably buy a beat up looking one and build a nice deck around it and add some potted shrubs for privacy.

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
Look in Craigslist Free. People trying to get rid of jacuzzis all the time. I bet a see a different one being given away on CL every week.

The only thing I know about them is they are a helluva lot of upkeep. Needs to be something you will use often otherwise it's kind of a waste of time and money and at some point something in will break and it will become a money pit to repair or just be a useless space taker-upper.

EDIT:

Something like this may be decent if you aren't going to use it constantly.

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
I have a feeling that owning a hot tub could be one of the best ROI's for game.

It's like a tool for screening cool girls.

I've had this weird fantasy lately about moving to Krakow and buying a hot tub over there because of the cold climate and sexy girls.

I'm only going to live once so fuck it I think I might do this.

I dunno, I feel like if she's already over at your house most of the work is done. Do you really think mentioning your hot tub when you invite her over is going to make the difference? I bet a great view from your window/rooftop would work better.

I think that if you're really vibing with a girl and she's open to having sex then yeah, all of the hard work is basically done.

A hot tub is just icing on the cake. If you have a long-term playboy pad, then a hot tub just seems like a no brainer.

But I agree that having a great view from a big window/rooftop is probably an even better investment than a hot tub.

Luckily, game and decent logistics is all that we'll ever really need to cover the essentials.

I just came to chime in. I live in an apartment building that has a year round out door hot tub.
Its the most clutch thing around.

I often make it a first date spot...
Meet me at the hot tub, ill bring margaritas.

95 percent of dates that come to the hottub.. end up bent over the couch in the living room.

I am the cock carousel

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
When I owned one, it didn't feel like the maintenance was that onerous. You dip a piece of treated paper in the water, and it changes color which tells you what chemicals to add. Every now and then you empty and refill it. It only feels like a pain in the ass if you never use the hot tub, which is what ended up happening for me. Then looking after it feels like a pain because it is pointless.

Knowing that I hardly ever use one, if I got one now, it would be one of these:

You don't need to bother with the chlorine, just do like the Japanese do and drain it after every couple of uses. Maintenance is buying fire wood.

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
I'm a hot tub owner. At first I had some bullshit jacuzzi that I did have leak problems with.

Now I got a jumbo cedar one that is fantastic. The jets are hidden in the bands that hold the planks together, and the filter is really small. My little neieces/nephews swim in it like its a pool. The benches are wood, so you dont get that slippery feel like I did with the jacuzzi.

Plus, it has that zen like look, and Asian bitches are more comfortable because It reminds them of home I suppose.

There's debate about electric versus gas. The cedar is gas, and it heats up quick. The jacuzzi was electric, and took a little more time. The pumps and shit are still electric, so remember that if you are putting one in. Other than that I saw little difference.

The hot tub is a sure thing with the pretty ladies. I also have an outdoor shower that I almost have a presex routine down to an art.

Now that I'm older, I sit in that thing at night and I'm ready to sleep in ten or fifteen minutes.

Aloha!

Kona, how much time do you spend maintaining it?

Absolutely none, but the company that put it in sells you a service contract, and they come every other week. There's lots of people around here that use them.

The jacuzzi, however, was a task probably about once a week. You had to flush the water in line frequently, which wasn't easy to get taken apart.

EDIT: they gave me a maintence schedule with the books, but of course I can't find it. Its similar to this: https://www.swimuniversity.com/hot-tub-m...-schedule/

Aloha!

RE: Hot Tub Ownership
I have owned a hot tub for 15 years and I love it. Bought it used from a buddy, replaced the control panel, and we were in business. Maintenance consists of me throwing in a couple cap fulls of granulated chlorine depending on how many people use it and draining it once a year. I used to throw in the floating chlorine contraption but it always added too much chlorine. If you have people in your jacuzzi every night, you will need a floater. Of course I monitor the ph of the water but that is only on the first fill and then about ever 3 months. One thing to note about the ph is that it must be in the correct range so that the chlorine is "available". I shut it down for winter by draining it and then sucking all the water out with a wet dry vacuum. It cost me about $30 for the initial heating of the water and then about a dollar a day to keep it warm. I can attest to the fact that any chick coming over to hot tub is most likely getting bent over the couch later that evening.
